Happy Birthday Jordan & get well soon.

Hi Suzu, nice song but there's nothing about wieners in it.

Luke, did you ever watch The Cure? Good movie. Quigley Down Under, Operation Swordfish, Pay It Forward, any Star Trek *uke eyes thinking about Mr. Spock*, Gunless & lots & lots of yaoi.

Happy Birthday Jordan too, even if I'm a little late.
I hope you had a nice one.
I've seen both movies The Cure and Quigley Down Under, an Australian film.
I like the clsssic movie To Kill a Mockingbird, then read the book.
I also like James Garner in "Support your local Sheriff." It super funny.
I also enjoyed "Lady Bugs" a funny soccer movie.

Geezer,
Did you spend Christmas with Dylan?

Dylan,
Do your new PJs fit?
Were you embarrassed by any gifts this year? :$

Hello lounge. I am experimenting with making a new banner for the top of the site. Some of you probably don't notice it anymore, beloved though it once was. It also does not match our current color scheme. I will post the new banner so users can give their input before anything is replaced- I may make a few variations.

Scene: My husband has arrived home from work at Pizza Hut, whereupon I am greeting him with enthusiastic kisses, when all of a sudden he starts giggling like a madman.

Me: "What's so funny?"
Him: "Look down."
*I look down- he's still wearing his shirt that says "Savor the Flavor"*
Me: "What about it?"
Him: "You've been screwing the pizza guy." :D

This is the first draft of one of the possible new banner designs:

One of the great things about the lounge is that it's a forum- that means that users can freely give their input on the posts of other users (hint hint). I was going to use a banner making website I'd found in the past to replicate the sparkle effect on the current banner, but I have found that over several days of trying I cannot get said site to load. This is not the very definitely final version of the banner- what is, depends on user input. Would more colors better fit the theme of the lounge?

Alora, love the story. Just remember, there are worse things you could have been doing when you read the slogan. Or was "kissing" a metaphor?

The banner is nice enough but I have a few problems with it for the Lounge. The Lounge pages and it's sign have weight and body, the new banner looks rather empty. Sort of 'Lounge Lite'. The pink is a good idea but I'm not sure where the green fits in. While it is nice work, in the context of the Lounge it has an AB feel to me which I would rather avoid. I tried to make an alternate that would combine your design and the Lounge look but I had trouble due to the citrus yellow/green not showing up against the grey background. I am less happy with my results but I'm posting it here so you can see where I was going with it. I tried to incorporate some Lounge tradition into your design. The Blue letters are the traditional B L Lounge blue, the "BL" use the traditional font and the slogan uses the graphite most people do not know is part of the design. Look up at the top of the page to the bar that runs across the background. I thought the black would be too dark for the rest of the colouring. Unfortunately my crappy little tool only allows one border or I would have used a smaller black border around the citrus. You did a good job replicating the glittery look but if you want to use the glitter just post your work or send it to me and I can add the glitter effect to it for you. Don't worry, do you remember how long it took to get a banner for the original orange pages? I was never happy with that banner but it was the best result I could get. Your banner maker seems to have more flexibility than mine, perhaps if we combine resources we can come up with something.

Spoiler: click to toggle

And remember what Alora said, discussion is good. What do you like about the new banners? What don't you like about them? Colours? Should we do the lettering with blowtorches or just dunk midgets in paint and slam them against the banner for a spatter effect? Ideas. Discussion. Sick jokes about body parts. Let's hear it!

Do you have any allergy medication Jordan? I hope you get better soon.

Surprisingly enough, "kissing" was not a metaphor. Well, not this time, anyway. There's always the possibility, especially when one's husband arrives home from work smelling delicious.

Thank you for the honest feedback Bruce, I think using the traditional lounge font for the "BL" was a much better idea. I think trading ideas and fiddling with designs is the only way we're going to come up with something satisfactory. I am actually using a tablet drawing app rather than a banner maker- although of course, the images I draw can be uploaded to a banner maker and further fiddled with. There are a few drawbacks to this app but overall it is fairly flexible.

I hope your cough is getting better now Jordan.

Smelling delicious and of pizza ingredients? So your usual greeting would be, "Is that a pepperoni in your pocket or are you happy to see me?"

The fonts were not working out for me. The styles I wanted for "The" and "Lounge" were too close together and did not fill enough space on the banner. I know when I did the banner for the last theme I could have used more input. I was having trouble with the colours breaking down on me. Since we both have rather limited banner makers we may be able to expand our abilities by combining our tools. I just noticed the sparkles are missing on my banner.

Just keep writing Luke. When I was painting I made certain I painted every day and it helped me to always find something to paint. The worst block I had lead to me creating one of my more unique portraits. It wound looking quite different from my original plan when I started painting it but it looks much better for the changes to the plan. If you keep in the habit of writing, you will always find something to write about.

Two new banners you can look at, they are hidden so you can look at each one individually or side by side to compare.

Speaking of said painting, I do not usually do anything to promote myself or my work but I do happen to have that painting sitting near my desk. It is not that I do not want people to see my work but I stopped promoting my art and myself some years ago, not seeing the point as long as I live and work in Canada. This particular work is no longer unusual, I have seen similar paintings since completing it but at the time it was to my knowledge, unique for it's time and generated quite a bit of interest whenever I displayed it. A running gag of mine is to tell people it's title should be, "Self Portrait - Nude", since it is obviously a nude. While they stare at the painting trying to see the nudity and grapple for something to say which makes it obvious they were aware of this all along, I begin my commentary of how I always include my shirt colllar even in a line drawing so the lack of shirt collar makes it obvious that this is a nude. Very few people admit to not noticing or being surprised it is a nude but the truth is, I am just messing with them to amuse myself on a long often boring day of showing work. When I painted this I was wearing my then standard painting uniform of old black jeans and a dark Club Monaco sweatshirt so of course the crew neck collar would not make any impression on the painting but when I studied the completed work I realized the style of drawing I used, which I was interested in experimenting with, gave the same outline to my body as if I had painted it nude. Except of course the way I drew it made for a rather inaccurate drawing. Not that it matters in a silhouette. Originally as I had been struggling with a creative block that night I had said to myself, "If I'm drawing a blank tonight, why not show that and paint myself as a blank?" So in the first stage of painting my figure was white. There were obvious problems, the painting looked too much like a diving sign and the figure looked like it was blank card stock. I had painted on mat board to encourage completing the work in one sitting. My solution was to move the colours around, mixing them and adding the blue to my figure. To add more visual interest I applied the paint in a manner I sometimes use when I want the work to have something of a mosaic appearance. Love it, hate it, ignore it, I don't care but it remains as an example of what can result from insisting on working regularly. (shared on my blog)

I will reply to more posts when I have time, I am currently actively remodeling the front page so it will probably look weird for awhile.

Attention lovers of yaoi and yuri: What is your favorite yaoi/yuri anime or manga? Do you have recommendations? If you do, please post them, as I need them for a section I am working on in the front page.

I am so behind on so many things, I cannot remember if I or someone else posted this video clip before, but even if so, it is certainly worth a rewatch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jquq_Bd1340

I'm sorry Dale, I missed your question but to reply I can say I spent a perfectly miserable day with my brother. It's not that it was such a terrible day but everything fell flat and nothing was good.

Straightedge, I am pleased you like the painting. I am happy with all my portraits, I do not get many opportunities to do a portrait so it is special when I get to do one and so far they have all been different and all have turned out to my satisfaction. There is one I like to nitpick several details but in all honesty it has so much impact when I show it that I wouldn't dare change anything for fear of ruining it.
The quote is indeed from David Bowie, taken from this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP6xBFyA_aw Labyrinth is an excellent movie, I should plug the DVD in.
A tip for anyone who hasn't discovered it by chance, click the post with the quote.

Alora, I am liking the front page so far. I was there two minutes behind you sou you may have found it but if not, there was a small error in one of your BBCodes. But isn't that the true purpose of code? To mess up so we can waste much time trying to find the error?
I do not have much time for animé and such, you have listed all that I know and like except I do not think you listed the one you take your username from and I liked the first 3,967 episodes of Inuyasha before it became derivative. I have had people argue it is not an animé but there is an old show I enjoyed when it was on television. I cannot remember the name but I will post it when I can. It was made by the same people as the Power Rangers and the two shows set the stage for animé in North America. Of course, since it did not have violence as a theme it was overshadowed by The Power Rangers but I enjoyed the humour and the homage to The Munster's and The Addams Family.

I've been meaning to rewatch/actuallly finish Ouran High school host club and junjou romantica. Those are two of my favorites. The first yaoi I ever watched was Papa to kiss in the dark for something old school. I look forward to seeing other people's suggestions so I have some more to watch.

Recently as in yesterday I watched the Box trolls. I think everyone here would like it cause we're all misfits. *breaks into rudolph song*

Today Alan Rickman died so I think I will try to actually watch all the Harry Potter movies. I just might have to start making a schedule for all my movie watching. There are lots of videos I'm hoping to see.

Suzu I just figured out how to read your blogs you speak of....oops!

They're my favorites too, I own the complete series for Ouran.

Luke, mine and Geezer's blogs can be found on the home page with the other topics as well as accessed from our profiles. Maybe next time I should link to it directly.

There is purple dye on my head. It smells of grapes.

PSA: If you are planning to dye your hair and you find that for some reason the dye smells unusual, looks odd texture wise or seems to be spreading strangely through your hair, DON'T USE IT!!!

Even if the dye is of a brand you've used before- if something seems off, it might be. Case in point: My purple hair dye smelled like grapes. Not unpleasant in the slightest but much different from the green hair dye of the same brand, which smelled like nothing but dye. I noted this before putting it on however I assumed it was simply an odd quirk. When my husband began to apply it to my hair I noticed the way it was spreading and absorbing also seemed a bit odd, but by then it was a bit too late to abort mission.

About half an hour later I stick my head under the running water in the sink and it looked like someone had committed a mass genocide of grapes. I have never seen so much hair dye run off someone's head of such a vivid color. Ten minutes in, the water is still running bright purple despite vigorous scrubbing. Twenty minutes in, my mother happens to wander by and manages to point out one spot that I've missed near my neck, but after thoroughly rinsing that, the water is only running a slightly lighter shade.

FORTY-FIVE MINUTES I have my head in this sink. I have painstakingly made a point of making sure I have touched every single patch of skin on my head and the sink is still full of vivid purple drips. I give up and call for my husband to bring me a dark colored towel. Despite the fact that dye is still coming off on my fingers whenever I touch my hair, even as I type this, my hair is a splotchy mess. I look like an easter egg. There is a mixture of Dark purple, light purple, blue-purple, blonde, brown, and PINK on my head. If the color distribution were only a bit more even, it would almost look intentional. A few of you have seen photos of me posted here before- if you have, you may know that I usually part my hair down the middle. There is blonde circle smack in the middle of my head if I part it that way. In an attempt to hide the especially splotchy sections and showcase the bits that actually took the color, I've spent the last several minutes in the bathroom combing my hair different ways to find something that works.

I am going to look rather gothic for the next several weeks. http://oi67.tinypic.com/2ia9x5h.jpg

I heard about Alan Rickman today, that is the third talent we have lost in a week. I was pleasantly surprised to find that someone had already commented on the blog.

I strongly recommend ignoring my blog at least as much as I do.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that about my hair. I had posted a similar video clip which may have been a different scene from the same animé but youtube has removed it.

It makes you scared to ask, "What's next?" so I'll ask while I have this to share and move things to lighter and brighter fare. Seriously, this really happened. And the driver? Max Verstappen who just turned eighteen. He became the youngest person to ever race in Formula 1 when he began his career last season. Although back at the turn of the century, Champcar had a driver who was seventeen so once again F1 is playing catch up to Champcar. I miss that series.

Posted Image

Now I am afraid to think back to what I was doing when I was eighteen although it usually involved cars and there was this one night in a parking lot in winter when I was having as much fun as Max. At least for a while. I wonder if Max had any Mounties with him?
