I don't actually celebrate Christmas but this year I tried something new and had a quiet Yule, Mia. My brother was away visiting his daughter and grandson so I had no family around. I got to do what I wanted which was sleep late and have pizza for dinner. How was your Christmas or similar winter solstice celebration?

I don't actually know what Yule is, Geezer! :0 I know of it 030
I'm glad you still had a nice time by yourself though :) Christmas was nice. Not as many presents this year because of the new house, but that fine. I still got some nice things, but I'm happy 'cause it's the first year I could actually get presents for my family since I have a job now. It was so stressful trying to decide on what to get; I'm so glad it's over TT~TT

It has been falling out of favour in my lifetime but Yule is a nicely vague name for the winter solstice. Many people use it wrongly as another name for Christmas or did in past. It's a Germanic tradition, as much of Christmas lore is, from the pagan tradition. Our Anglo-Saxon heritage at play again. Most of the ties to paganism have been lost despite what new agers say so it is now largely a celebration of the winter season held during the solstice. This makes it ideal for someone like myself who cannot tolerate the gross commercialism that has taken over Christmas. Our Christmas trees (a German tradition) evolved from the tradition of the Yule log. Personally, as a Christian, what Christmas has evolved into offends my faith so I have ignored Christmas for decades but this has been misunderstood as well so this year I decided to begin celebrating Yule. Don't listen to new agers who claim to have ancient knowledge that has been secretly kept through centuries. This includes wiccans, modern paganism and any Christian sect claiming to be the "true church". These people are revisionists who want to rewrite history into the pretty story they want it to be. This should also serve as a warning for using Wikipedia as research. :) History needs to be written by sane adults who do not fear truth.

It it always much nicer when you are able to give. It is also normal for there to be fewer presents as we grow up.

"Christmas" translated to Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish is "Jul", pronounced "yul."

I have one Norwegian and three Swedish grandparents.
The first words I heard from my Grandmother, who we lived with was "dalig pojke" which means "bad boy. :$ " At the time, I was playing in her flower garden.

Dylan, I'm glad that you received your present before Christmas  . Thank you Geezer. :)

For Christmas in northern Wisconsin, there was only 2 in. of snow, but it was -20F (-29C). It was so quiet outside, but you could freeze your eyeballs going to the mailbox.

My avatar is Bat Man and Robin from the comic book. Dylan is taking Robin's place.

Bah ! *falls over- muffled "humbug" can be heard through carpet fuzz*

Merry Christmas and Happy New year, both severely belated. So many things, both good and bad, have transpired just since I was here last. It feels like it's been forever since I posted here. I miss you, Dylly and Bruce. I'll post the full story on my blog for any who care to hear it. I hope everyone is doing well.

Suzu,
I'm sorry for anything bad that happened over Christmas vacation. It should be a happy time, but things happen that we have no control over. I don't have access to your blog.

Thank you for the well-wishes, Dale. You should have access to all blogs- do you know how to get to them? You can access them from the main page or from a member profile. I hope you are doing well.

Suzu,
Thanks for the information. I read your blog, and I see that you have had some serious health issues over Christmas. I hope you both stay health and can soon get insurance.

You're welcome Dale, I'm glad I could at least accomplish that much. I still have a couple of packages to mail to various people when circumstances permit. Some people still have faith in me despite a proven record lately of non-performance. Clearly youth is wasted on the foolish. Life is getting more hectic with more problems from my family then bullcrap taking my time from what I need to be doing. Something that should have taken 2-3 days to help avoid a problem has taken about a week and a half so far, just because it can and this is typical.

Alora, I was checking your blog yesterday to see if you posted anything lately. So sorry I missed you today. I hate to hear you have had further problems and hope the health issues are not too serious. I will check your blog in a minute I just popped in to share this: Yoni. I should get Dylly a necklace & tell him it is a stylized flower. I'm sure he's never seen one. If I were making jewelry to sell, I would be looking at this. Did you know we have a shop in Halifax called Venus Envy?

How are Jordan and Mia? How is everybody else who makes periodic visits?

Geezer,
Here I was prepared to give Dylan a spanking for not communicating. Then I find out it wasn't his fault. It is so important to communicate, so the other person isn't "left in the dark" and thinking bad thoughts.

On another note, I'm planning a trip to Washington D.C. for the Trump presidential inauguration. Toby Keith, 3-doors Down, Restless Heart, Lonestar, and Lee Greenwood, country music stars are planning a concert the night before. It will be outside on the White House lawn. I hope it is not too cold. It is tricky dodging winter snow storms.

Venus Envy? I must know what they sell there. How are you doing, Bruce?

The thought processes of some people are so baffling to me, the mere notion that it is even possible to think like that causes me to quiver in sheer rage. I frequently wonder if people ever actually listen to the words that come out of their mouths. This is unrelated to anything- I'm just venting.

I had a strange dream awhile back about meeting you in person, Bruce. It was mildly disconcerting however as you sounded exactly like Gilbert Gottfried.

For one thing, this. You can visit it here although I gather they now have a location in Ottawa or you could just browse here. I think I am well but still far too tired. How are you and your family? I hope you and your husband are doing better now.

I understand, I have been there too many times. "He wants to try smoking drugs because his friends are doing it and with my past, who am I to tell him it's wrong?" Um, doesn't that make you the perfect person to talk to him? You can tell him in explicit detail what a bad trip is like or what it's like to have your stomach pumped & ask, "How cool does that sound?" Another thing I avoid saying is, "You can tell the difference between Prime Ministers Pierre and Justin Trudeau, can't you? You know, one is the current Prime Minister and the other one is dead." You try to pick your battles and ignore the stupidity in between. I don't really care what people think of our Prime Minister but if they are going to attempt forcing an opinion I do expect them to know which PM is the current one.

Meeting me is always strange, often dreamlike and frequently disconcerting Alora. I haven't sounded like Gilbert Gottfried since puberty dear, so about six to ten years. Now I sound like Tom Waits. Not the stuff from the 70's where engineers made his voice melodic but things like Cold Cold Ground from Frank's Wild Years where you get to hear him sound like Tom Waits. I have posted some of his work here somewhere but it is his purty stuff. If I ever get down south again I will try to look you up or at least call. In the meantime you could close your eyes while playing one of the Monty Python housewife skits for the same experience. I do however still look like Gilbert Gottfied. If you built Gilbert Gottfried on Colin Mochrie's frame. Sort of like the bastard offspring of an unfortunate Gilbert Gottfried/Colin Mochrie dalliance. Add the grace and elegance of John Cleese and you have me dear.

Bonus track:The melodic Tom Waits. Extra Bonus: Same song with lyrics

Hey! How's everyone doing?
So my mom got a new French bulldog a little while ago. He's only 3 months and a bit of a trouble maker =____= He chews on everything! Everytime we take something from him, he looks for something else to chew! He's very cute though. I love him. ^3^
Also I had a dream where I was talking to my old friends. I think I miss them???? I haven't had a real conversation with anyone but my family since September. I've been enjoying all my favorite shows by myself. Which is fine I suppose, but even I get bored when I have to keep all my thoughts to myself all the time.
But on a slightly more positive note, my workplace decided to keep me for whatever reason. Heh heh. ^_^ I've been spending a lot though. I just.. I just like to have THINGS! YOU KNOW?! TT___TT

I made it to the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. on Jan 19th and 20th 2017 Lee Greenwood sang "his hit song "God Bless the U.S.A.,"and Toby Keith sang several hits including "Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue." It was a fine show and the swearing in ceremony was beautiful in contrast to biased reporting on CNN and Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show.
The CNN building overlooking the Capitol Building had several people on its roof watching the event including several Secret Service snipers just in case there was any trouble. One woman near us made a scene and was hauled off by security.
Security was high on the streets too. Several demonstrators set a limo and a Cadillac car on fire. Riot police circled the area and pitched grenades filled with rubber pellets at the ones responsible. I found one of the empty ones on the street afterwards. It ls like a black rubber softball with a handle and a fuse.

Not since John Kennedy, Jr. in 1963 has there been a young boy in the US White House. Baron Trump is only 10. He will be 11 on March 20, 2017. He is the only son of President Trump's current marriage. He will be living at the White House after his completes his school term.
Currently, he has his own floor in the Trump penthouse in Manhattan. He likes decorating his living area with helicopters and airplanes. Barron goes to a private school in New York. He loves math and science and plays baseball after school. He also likes building buildings with Magna-Tiles and playing with Legos. He is not raised by a nanny. He is like Brock Pierce, the boy in the movie, "First Kid," with Sinbad. He'll have to sneak out of the hidden passages in the White House to get out on his own. His father and mother then will administer the discipline. Imagine being spanked by the President. :$

Mia, I'm doing good but you should post a photo of the puppy. It's hard leaving your friends when you move. I always went to the same school so I knew my best friends almost my whole life. I missed them when we moved away for a few years & was super excited to move back home & see them again but I was sad to leave the friends I made in Ontario too. I still visit them when we go up there to visit family. Did you think about going back to school yet?

If it was the president you got now I'd lock myself in my room & call Children's Services before he could touch me. People that creep me out don't get to touch me.

I don't think I ever saw the doomsday clock move closer to midnight before. The Arctic is a mess, we got to stop ignoring the environment before it's too late.

Sorry you & your boyfriend broke up but the good news is you're in college, even Geezer got lucky in university. :D College & university is a good place to meet people. Don't let the anxiety get to you, any guy would be lucky to have you for a girlfriend. Take your time & find one that deserves you.

Suzu!
Where are you Suzu?!?!

I'm over here, Dylly. desperately trying to keep my grip on a decaying piece of driftwood as I float helplessly on the waves in the sea of other people's stupidity.

Bruce, my husband and I are well. As it would be unwise to go into further detail here, I will just say that my family is also fine. Perhaps when we both have more time, I'll tell you more about the baffling, infuriating goings-on I was mentioning before.

*looks off into the distance as though in deep thought* Is Colin Mochrie your mother, or your father? Interesting musical sound, however if that's a very close match to what you actually sound like, my left ear may have some problems with you. Then again however my left ear has problems with most things. What business could have possibly brought you to this ass-backwards part of the globe? I pity you if you ever do have to come again, but I'd be more than happy to finally see you. You'd never find me without warning me in advance however, I'm rather difficult to locate (which is intentional on my part). You know, I'd be more than happy to provide my phone number to you and Dylly both for general purposes, if you'd use it. I miss you both... Ahem, what?

This group is Ryan's latest obsession. I will not post a lot of links here but I will say that their other videos are worth looking into, and are some of the weirdest things I've seen recently.
