Personally, from what I've seen of him and his church, I thought he was an awful person. A man full of anger and hate who brainwashed his family and used religion as a vehicle to spread his message. One that made a point of causing a lot of innocent and often grieving people a lot of suffering and distress. I'd also include his family amongst his victims. It is a divided family, with many people cast out and cut off completely from their loved ones because they didn't agree with their beliefs. Linky

I hope that his death can at least lead to some amount of peace. Also, someone pointed out something kind of karmic: he devoted so much energy toward bullying gay people, but everything he did advanced gay rights. His actions had literally the opposite effect he intended.

His daughter has been the face of the church for years now (and the excommunication bit actually makes me wonder if she became so through some sort of internal coup), so they'll just go right on being the same shitbags we've gotten used to over the years.

Whether they're in touch with each other I don't know. I think they ran off at different times and to different places, so they might not know who else is out and where they went...
