Mr. Erdogan is really proving to be a bit of a miniature Putin, he is doing everything in his power to prevent the corruption inquiry in Turkey from damaging him and his political allies by changing laws and intimidating people. Mr. Erdogan has also been trying to do things like shutting down twitter (but having it shut down for a few hours). Turkey is having municipal elections soon and it should be telling whether or not his party (AK) can hold on with 40% or more of the vote. The opposition is hoping to take a few of the Turkish cities, although they are apparently weak. |

Turkey has also been in the lead when it comes to jaled journalists, ahead of countries that unlike Turkey are generally accepted to be Dictatorships, though Turkey doesn't seem to be very far from the category with Erdogan in power. |

The old Chinese curse - may you live in interesting times. Some people are afraid Turkey could become more like Iran in the worst case. You know, the fundamentalist movement is on the rise. But I think it's far-fetched. On the other hand Erdogan is clearly going authoritarian and maybe Turkish people will stop it soon. |
