This raises the important question, why doesn't anyone give a shit about male victims of domestic abuse.

How society in general looks at abuse, the "he probably deserved it" without knowing the details excuss and people like anita sarkeesian who cover their ears and go lalalalalala if men are victimised because its not possible for men to be the victim.

Wouldn't men be more likely to report abuse than a woman?

No. The thought that most men would have if they decided to tell someone about being abused would be that they'd be made fun of for being beat up by a girl.

sadly it's even more under reported. even if you look at popular media there is sometimes the "guy getting beaten up by girl is funny" and similarly to why many rape victims don't report, because they don't think they'll be believed.
"The greatness of a nation consists not so much in the number of its people or the extent of its territory as in the extent and justice of its compassion" - Inscribed on the plinth of the Horse Memorial in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

"Many politicians are in the habit of laying it down as a self-evident proposition that no people ought to be free till they are fit to use their freedom. The maxim is worthy of the fool in the old story who resolved not to go into the water till he had learned to swim." ~ Thomas Babington Macaulay

And in the case of rape, its actually worse than domestic abuse in some jurisdictions, because only the person doing the penetration can legally be considered the rapist, so a ton of male rape victims just aren't legally considered to have been raped. This is also a problem with some collection of rape statistics, where "forced to penetrate" is a weird category separate from rape.

Also I think the article I linked provided pretty good explanation as to why men are less likely to report domestic abuse. For one thing courts are more likely to award custody of children to the woman, so if they want to continue to see their children they need to stay in the abusive relationship.

Well not exactly. In a patriarchal society men are taught to "dominate" and to "man the f* up," so when domestic abuse or even rape cases are perpetrated against them, its extremely difficult to them to come forward for fear of being seen as less than a "man" and of course the whole not being believed thing.

Its quite sad really.
