Overall Setting Proposal Subject to change Balder is a self-contained world. It is a world uncharted, in the main, but we external beings can cheat and peak at the Creators Map, so to speak, if we so choose.. The World Regardless, it is a land of the fantastic, settled by humans, dwarves, and elves and roamed by orcs, gnolls, goblins, and the like. There is magic, arcane and divine in origin. A poorly kept secret is that the divine is powered by belief. Perhaps as a consequence, belief and worship is a carefully regulated social institution. Central is the Holy Balderan Empire, a traditional feudal patchwork of principalities mostly inhabited by an admixture of humans and elves, and ruled by a mostly dwarven aristocracy. ![]() previous versions The Holy Balderan Empire (named after the Balderan Empire of antiquity, which defeated the elf-kings and ruled over the subcontinent for several centuries in peace) is built on a concordat between the Covenant Order, led by the High Goth, and the Emperor. Under the banner of Balderan empire, the Dwarf Emperor and his knights conquered the vast land which is the Holy Balderan Empire today. To the south, a large nation recently broke away violently, and now supports separatist princes within the Empire. To the west, the mountains are inhabited by several Dwarven nations, unrelated to the Emperor's clan. To the north are a number of smaller human kingdoms, two of which are colonizing wilds beyond the western mountains, facing vicious resistance from goblins, gnolls, wild elves, orcs, and the like. Far to the north it is said that there is a vast idyllic elven empire, sheltered behind mountains and wide rivers. Sources differ on how peaceful it is. The Empire itself is split, roughly east versus west, between traditionalists who follow the Covenant Order and support the High Goth in the east, and heretics / reformers in the west who seek to follow the written Covenant with the Gods on their own, or perhaps whose lords seek to break free of central authority. The Covenant itself is a bare thousand years old, a treaty of sorts with a pantheon of Gods, establishing their worship in exchange for protection from daemons and other such dangers. The covenant also binds the Gods from commanding or ruling, which the High Goth perhaps regrets in current circumstances. There are a number of lands which we external beings may claim to name and mold: A-L: Independent human kingdoms. A-L details 1-5 are independent mountain dwarf kingdoms and 6 & 7 are imperial hill-dwarf kingdoms, home to many a noble / vicious clan. (depending on your point of view) Spoiler: click to toggle i-xxv: Human principalities. Blue = covenant order Purple = against covenant order Greenish = neutral i-xxv Imperial Demesne: Kingdoms and Baronies and other principalities ruled directly by the Emperor and his immediate family. Has accumulated over time. Includes a majority of the electorates, who's sovereigns technically get a vote in electing the Emperor. In practice, the empire is thus hereditary. Gothic State: Lands reigned over by the monarch of the Covenant Order: the High Goth. Perhaps more trouble than its worth, fiscally at least, to the High Goth. Before it was purchased, annexed, and unioned, however, many a time the High Goth was held hostage to the demands of some prince or another's army. Confederated City-States: A confederation of seven city-states within the Empire, who banded together to defend their trade against bandits or princes (what, at times, is the difference?) Nominally loyal to the Emperor, but not, apparently, willing to fight for him or the High Goth in a civil war. Neutral on the religious question, at least overall. Individual city states are more loyal to the Confederation than to the religious thinkers they support, in any case. Edited by Eluvatar, Jan 15 2013, 09:27 AM.

If its possible, you can take the southern portion (the land next to 5) of my kingdom "K" AKA The Empire of Aven Dale ruled by King Wor Dalante of House Dalante, the 2nd of his name. If you promise not to cause too much riff-raff

Change to Rummelia, will be done. Govindia: This is almost nation RP, but not quite. I do expect alot of people to be RPing principalities of the Holy Balderan Empire. But people can definitely RP individual characters and such. My main character may end up being the administrator of the Kingdom of Latnob, the Emperor's nephew. xxii claimed. Will label it Brunswick. xix claimed. Will label it Saethlond unless StGeorge objects. |

What exactly is the theme / tech level? My idea of nation-based RPing that I was proposing would involve either MT or PMT, possibly FT as well (Modern tech, post modern tech, and future tech, respectively) |
