Given Name: Yasuko Mizushima Alias: Mizu Furcadia Alt: Yasuko Mizushima Species: Homo-superior Gender: Female Age: 16 Mutation: Mermaid? I don't know if there's an actual word for it... but Yasuko has the ability to transform into a mermaid! She can do this by submerging herself underwater. The change depends on how much water is on her. If she gets splashed, then scales will form wherever the water touched. If she were to go swimming then her whole body would be covered in scales and her fins grow between her fingers and toes and a larger fin forms on her calves. Her head must be underwater for her legs to merge together into the traditional mermaid tail. Of course she can breathe underwater as well, though the transition from air to water (and back) is uncomfortable at best. If done too suddenly then it is painful and disorients her. After a few minutes she would be fine. She is also bioluminesent. Her hair, eyes, and scales either glow constantly or pulse various colors, but it only happens in dark water. If under stress or frightened, she is capable of spitting out a cloud of the same glowing liquid as a defense to distract predators and make a quick escape. Just as a note, she might be a water based character but she has no control over water or any form of liquid. Zip, nada, zilch, nope. Nothing. Secondary Mutation: Siren's Voice... sort of. Attempts to sing are met with banshee like wailing instead of the traditional songs you would expect to hear from a mermaid. She is a disgrace to merfolk! She couldn't carry a note in a bucket! The only exception to this is when she is underwater. There her voice transforms drastically and can be heard clearly. It can be heard only as a distant hum above water with none of the hypnotizing effects that any other sirens possess. In water, the songs she sings are pleasant and relaxing, but have never demonstrated any traditional siren effects. In going with the Asian variety of merfolk, Mizu is something of a good luck charm, particularly when it comes to wealth. Nothing excessive, but people often find they have good luck whenever they're near her. Finding loose change or a few dollars here and there, or maybe even getting lucky on a scratchcard, are likely to occur. She also seems to be pretty good at finding stuff, too. That's not really part of her mutation, it's just something worth mentioning. Physical Description: Her human form is around 5'3" and is pretty average for an asian female. She has fair skin and a petite figure. Her features are feminine and defined. She has seafoam green eyes ombre hair that starts black and fades into a royal purple with light blue streaks throughout. It reaches her hips and is usually pulled into a loose side braid or styled curls. She is a proud member of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee. Needless to say, she's just below average when it comes to female assets. Everything about her is small and dainty. Her mermaid form, from the top of her head to the end of her tail fin, is nearly 8' long and is primarily a sapphire blue. Speckles of white and orange display a natural bioluminesence, but the larger patches of orange and black remain flat. Her hair mirrors that, nearly constantly glowing with the ocassional 'zap' of light crossing from root to tip. Scales dot the skin of her arms and hands, with larger blue scales on her biceps and ofrearms. What looks like skin is actually millions of tiny flesh-colored scales! Her tail fin is large and long, nearly a third the length of her body. There are two other fins: one on the lower portion of her tail that is tattered and torn, and another on the back of her tail acting as a dorsal. Her ears elongate in this form and are also webbed. Her fingers are connected with webbed fins to make swimming through hard currents easier. Personality: She keeps to herself most of the time, mainly because she's determined to get top grades in her classes. It might come off as anti-social or introverted, but she's really a friendly person and can trust easily. If that trust is broken then it is unlikely that she'll ever fully trust you again. Other than that, she's mostly a generic character and doesn't really get into conflicts often. History: Our story starts in Tokyo, Japan. The year was 19something. Kind of hard to choose an exact year since the year isn't specified in the settings... but anyway, back to the story... When Yasuko was in utero, her mother went to a doctor who, of course, performed an ultrasound on her. Imagine their surprise when they found that their little girl was deformed with a case of sirenomelia. They were devastated. The doctors said that she might not survive to term. If she did, chances of making it through the first week would be a miracle. It really was a miracle -- not only did she survive, but her sirenomelia was gone! How?! Everyone was stunned. They decided, in the end, that it must have been an error during the ultrasound. She was born a healthy 12 pounds even. Her mutation was there from the start. Her parents brought her home immediately from the hospital and, during her first bath, scales sprouted all over her body! Now, back then, mutants weren't too common, so they thought that their daughter must have been a goddess of some sort. How many girls wished to be a mermaid and actually had that wish come true? It came with a lot of trouble, though. They had to keep it secret and she wasn't allowed to go swimming with her friends or go out when it might rain. As a result, she instead focused on her schoolwork and studies and, eventually, was able to apply for a foreign exchange student program. That's the only important stuff that happened. Right now she's just continuing her studies here in Bayville. Who knows what she'll discover here! Possible Future: Dunno. She's soft hearted, but really could be swayed either way, especially considering how mutants with physical mutations are treated. |

I also like the simplicity in the mutation. Definitely something we don't have yet, too. Although we don't normally have mythical creatures, I like this brand of mutants who shapeshift/mutated and just call themselves the creature they resemble. I approve. |
