Hi Re https://www.whiskyshop.com/ailsa-bay My aunt / uncle used to have a guest house in Girvan so I've been there dozens of times although not since they moved to Cowal about 10 years ago. So there was a massive whisky factory on the outskirts of Girvan (not the sea side, the hill side) which produced bulk volume of low grade whisky used for blends. As far as I know they never did a single malt. They also produced various distilled liquor for other spirits. So big bulk producer. But I think they did start making Hendriks gin there which is quite nice-worth checking I'm right! Ailsa is the rock between Girvan and Giants causeway NIre so a good name if they are producing a single malt now - worth checking how long it is aged it should be a min 8 years so is possible it is made there in Girvan if barrelled since I last visited the town! Not saying not to try it it sounds interesting but maybe just be sure it's aged >8 years. |
