What is the Community Chat section?

This section is the universal place for everyone on Outline to meet and discuss anything they'd like. We'd like everyone to have a good time, and for that we need to make sure everyone is open and willing. I also don't want to waste your time with this boring topic so that you can get out and talk again!

Quick tips to posting success
Things you should think about each and every time you post

  • When should I post?

    • If you're Interested in the discussion. Don't just post for a higher post count.

    • Only if you're unimpaired or in a decent mood. We don't want any grumps trolling around the board - take a break and come back when you're happy.

  • What should I post?

    • Always feel free to ask questions. Whether it's for the sake of clarification or just bringing out new opinions and discussions, questions are a great way to keep a thread alive.

    • Share a new opinion. If 15 people have said they agree with the original poster, why not post something new purely for being the devil's advocate or adding a new point of view?

    • Always at least post as much as the lowest post that's alive in that thread. For example, if everyone's been posting paragraphs then you should try and give as much thought as well.

  • Why should I post?

    • Post because it's entertaining. We all love large post counts, but at the end of the day it'll be the discussions and events that we experienced that we'll remember.

    • Post to meet new people. The amazing part of the internet is that we avoid those awkward "Is she looking at me? Oh God, we just met eyes... should I wave now?" moments. Meet as many people as you can and get the most out of life!

    • Post to give back to Outline. Posts are a way of judging whether or not people use our resources and enjoy the forum - seeing a bunch of people posting and enjoying themselves is one way we, as Staff, keep ourselves motivated!

  • Things to emphasize:

    • For the sake of emphasis, I'd like to restate: Don't be a grump. Arguing and bickering is annoying and unattractive to the others around you. Trust me - take an hour off the computer and go play some Wii Frisbee Golf and come back and you'll see the situation in a new light.

    • Maybe means no. If you think to yourself: "Will this get this person angry? Maaaaybe." then that's a clear indicator that you shouldn't. You'll get in a lot less trouble that way.

    • Don't spam. Surprisingly, there is a very thick line between rapid posting and spamming. The Outline Chat Thread is there more for rapid chatting, and if you enter there you should expect no more from it. We don't mind having that kind of a MSN giant group conversation going here because it's certainly fun and entertaining, but when you enter another topic you should be on track and ready to contribute.

Final Notes:
  • If you ever have any questions at all, please feel open to PM a Staff Member for further assistance.
