Welcome to Bennington County, where Vermont begins.

We get a lot of visitors around here. Unfortunately, most folks don't come for the beautiful scenery, the friendly people or the great local cuisine. For decades now we've had people comin' up here and poking their noses into things that ought to be left in the past where they belong. So you understand if we're a little suspicious of strangers who claim to be just passin' through. Maybe if you stick around a while and introduce yourself, the good people of Bennington'll be a little more likely to open up to you a bit.

Introduce yourself and become a part of our community! Just don't go asking nosy questions.

Charlotte "Charlie" Johanna Walker was born on October 17th, 1988.

Born and raised in Bennington, Charlie is an easily recognized resident, but not a well known one. She often prefers the company of her 85 pound German Shepherd, Kirito, to other people.

She can often be seen wandering around town with her dog and camera when she isn't working.

Her mother, Vivian, was previously a veterinary assistant at the local clinic. She died of pancreatic cancer two years after Charlie graduated from college. Her father, Mark, was an air force mechanic and later a commercial airline mechanic in Richmond. He was also an amateur photographer.

Charlie learned to love photography from her father. Every Sunday after church she and her parents would go out to the local nature park, where her father would teach her about photography.

Her father was hit by a drunk driver when he was driving home from work after a late shift when Charlie was seven.

After graduating high school, Charlie received a full scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design, where she majored in photography. She also became fascinated with the town’s ghostly legends. This fascination with the supernatural continued to grow when she came back to Bennington.

During her final term, her mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Charlie finished school and moved back to Bennington. Her mom insisted that she get her own place nearby instead of moving back home, stating that she needed to experience her own life and not live her mother’s death. Charlie moved into a nearby apartment and quickly established a small photography business. Her mom died two years later. Unable to live in her parents' old house, she sold it and moved into a small, white two-bedroom house on a little wooded lot near the cemetery, just a few minutes outside of town.

A few months after her mom died, Charlie used some of her savings to buy a German Shepherd puppy from a breeder to keep her company. She named the big male puppy Kirito after the main character in an anime that she had been watching. Since buying Kirito, Charlie has resumed her Sunday afternoon walks through the woods and the local cemetery.

In order to keep her photography business afloat, Charlie sells her photographs online, and to papers and magazines, and sometimes takes jobs out of town.

Charlie never carries a purse if she doesn't have to. She prefers to carry a small wallet suspended on a D-ring with her keys hooked on her belt. Along with her keys and wallet, she has a small pen attached to a key chain. She carries the pen so that if she sees something she wants to photograph but doesn't have her camera, she can write herself a reminder. However, more often than not, she doesn't have a sheet of paper on hand, so she writes notes on her left forearm.

She prefers to dress for comfort. On a normal day she wears dark wash jeans and loose tunic style shirts under a long black coat or sweater.

Ever since she was in college Charlie has been saving what money she could so that one day she could go to France. Once in France, she hopes to explore and photograph parts of the infamous catacombs.
