Log 000, Day 001:
The Happy Mask Salesman sat in the center of Clock Town, which now was nothing but ruins and ashes of its old glory. Only moments ago, he had a RYNO pushed against his temple by the legendary Shadow Thief. The battle had ended so abruptly, leaving him in the ruins of his old home. The pieces of Ben were still beside him, along with all of his weapons and his pack of masks he sadly threw to the side after everything had ended. It was only after Popple faded away, that he saw he too was fading away just like him and Patsy. He had given everything he had in the fight, and poor little Benny did literally, shattering due to the might of the frustrated underling of Popple, Patsy, who had been armed with an Ultima Weapon. Ben tried to hide among his copies to no avail, and was brutally destroyed. The Happy Mask Salesman thought he'd pull through initially, but he crumbled moments after Popple and Patsy left. That was fine though, as Ben needed some rest. God knows he had suffered enough, and caused enough suffering via the mindgames he played on people, whether it was just verbally assaulting them or barraging them with his terrible stories.

But, the Happy Mask Salesman still felt unsatisfied. It was only when he began to see himself fading, that he realized how many mistakes he really had made. His insanity had entirely drained out of him throughout the asskicking Popple dealt him. Still, he was sure he got his own couple of good blows in. The slam dunk was by far probably the best. But even with that, he felt as if his time was incomplete somehow. He had been gypped in a major way, as were several other characters and armies. For he wouldn't be the only one that faded away that day. Nonetheless, that feeling of failure plagued him. He looked down at the broken blades he had once, god knows why, named Rufio and Stabhappy. When he was still lost in insanity, he actually prized these two butter knives nearly as much as he did his masks. A foolish thought to think such things were so valuable... even while bloodied and nearly broken, he couldn't help but laugh at his past failures.

Sure, he had killed quite a few... and sure, he had been lost in quite a few spells of murderous insanity. He had even taken a few bad mushrooms from those COBRA fellows or whoever they were, and that ended up making him dream up of this whole ridiculous insane asylum. He had even quested just to kill, carving the faces off of people for new masks and eating their hearts. While such a grisly act was behind him now, he didn't wince looking back at his past deeds. He just found humor in them, and really, wasn't laughter and happiness the only things that truly mattered? Why, even the fellow he found with him after the battle of a lifetime, he actually found entertaining and joyful to be around. Though, he would probably be the only one to ever think such a thought.

In a way, he was thankful that Popple and Patsy came along and snapped him out of the funk he found himself suffering. No more brutal murder sprees, no dual wielding silly named swords, and certainly, no more heart eating. He didn't exactly like the taste of them anyways. No more depression, no more vulgarity, just happiness. And of course, he would return to his original reasons for selling masks. To make people happy, of course. Not in some lame creepypasta way where the masks take over the hosts or anything. Just playful and entertaining masks.

And that of course meant doing something he would have thought unthinkable, long ago. Grabbing his old mask pack, he lifted it up and poured all of the old masks out onto the ground. For a moment, he was in a sea of familiar faces. But then, he picked up the mask he had for Bowser, and then used it once last time, to set fire to the entire mask pile. He threw the Bowser mask on the very top. But because he actually liked Chet Rippo as company, the old Happy Mask Salesman decided he would not leave him in this desolate ruined world where he would probably starve to death or accidentally kill himself somehow, no, the Happy Mask Salesman stuffed Chet Rippo in his mask pack, now that there was a huge vacancy.

Once he had him secured in the pack, he walked past what remained of Ben accidentally kicking apart the remaining pieces.

Then, the Happy Mask Salesman simply vanished from the world he once lived in, with his pile of masks abandoned, burning away. But of course, there was one mask missing...

It'd be a bit redundant to say which one, don't you think?

He probably shouldn't have done that.

As he made not his first emergency trip to the Nexus, he found himself laughing. Laughing and laughing. Not out of insanity, nor out of murderous glee. For the first time in a long time, he felt happy again.

But still, a quiet but reminding voice close to him spoke.

One more chance, and that's all you get...
