TIMELINE/OUTLINE

ALREADY WRITTEN

Limbo:
16) Matt Robinson’s father soon arrives with him, and welcomes him to Hell. They have arrived in one of the lesser realms of Hell, the Plains of the Afflicted, where all the souls of the sick and crippled the Business Man harvested, those that Plague didn’t claim, anyways. Many of the souls here sold their souls in an exchange for a cure to their diseases. Some of them actually did get the cure they wished, others were only tricked into thinking they received a cure. Regardless, their souls are now all the Business Man’s. Matt’s father explains to him that to make it to the Business Man, he will indeed have to traverse each realm, traveling lower and lower with each, just like Dante.
17) The plains are really nothing more than plains, but they are barren and without life. They soon pass a pond which has a sign next to it which reads “Drink these waters of life, and your illnesses shall pass.” His father assures him that while the water does in fact look nice, it is filled with nothing but poison. Its effects are not lethal, but rather, it causes horrible pain to any and all that ingests it. Over and over, the Afflicted drink from it, expecting a different result.
18) The Afflicted suddenly cease drinking, as madness seems to fills their eyes. They scream and writhe in agony, as the Business Man’s poison once more begins to make its way through their systems. Matt’s father tells him to keep walking, for they cannot help them, as even if they could, they wouldn’t allow them to. The entrance to the next realm is only a ways away.
19) Matt Robinson can’t help but recall Brandon Suneri, who nearly assaulted him in the center of what remained of Windfield, deathly ill from the Plague Sickness, and completely unable to cope with what was happening. He wonders if he’ll meet him down here.
20) As they walk, they find that they are being followed by the Afflicted. Matt tries to look back at them, but his father catches and stops him. He tells him to just keep walking, and when Matt asks why, the answer dawns on his face. There is a look of determination on the pained faces of those souls following him. The Business Man had perhaps offered them a bounty for Matt Robinson’s head.
21) The Afflicted soon surround Matt and his father, and they are forced to defend themselves against their attackers. Matt’s father’s attacks are more focused and eager while Matt only wishes to defend himself, not slaughter the Afflicted. His father criticizes him for this, as they soon begin a dash for the next entrance to the next realm.
22) They come to a stone well, from what appears to be poison leaks. Matt’s father informs him that the well is the next gateway. It is at that moment the Afflicted entirely surround and outnumber the two of them, and his father purposely knocks Matt down into the well, yelling as he falls that perhaps they'll see each other again.

Lust:
23) Matt once appears in another dark place, but he realizes that on the ground, there is something shining in even such abysmal darkness. It is his wedding ring. When he bends down and scoops it up, he finds that there is nothing but ash in his hands. This makes him remember back to the day he promised his wife that he would protect Sarah, and the memory of that grand failure only worsens Matt's mood.
24) Onwards he continues, until he sees a sign that reads simply, "The Carnival of Desires." He soon finds himself before numerous colorful tents in which more human like looking demons reside.
25) Soon, he finds himself unable to continue on, exhausted for some unknown reason. He collapses and closes his eyes for a while.
26) He wakes up in his old home, and is shocked to find that Sarah, Alicia, and Ryan are all alive. They are one big happy family. No apocalypse, no murder, everything was fine. While Matt finds it extremely difficult to resist the temptations, he eventually accepts that it's nothing more than an illusion. As the false version of his family try to rest his nerves, Matt continues muttering to himself over and over again "You're dead" in increasing volume. Eventually, he even grabs a butcher knife from the kitchen of his old home and wields it against the empty eyed impostors. His wife and child are in tears, and Ryan is trying to calmly persuade him to drop the knife. Unable to hurt even false versions of his loved ones, even of Ryan, he sticks the knife into his own chest as the blank copies scream no.
27) Matt's eyes open, and he finds himself surrounded by the colorful tents he had been approaching. The humanlike demons now showed themselves as they truly were. Twisted, shaped wrong, abominations that feed off of both the pleasure and pain of mortals. They feed off of both their desires and lust. Enraged that they would dare corrupt and use the images of his family against him, he massacres as many of them as possible before moving on.
28) Tired, bloodied, Matt continues on. He looks behind him at the ruined carnival, and sees the fake version of his house. Outside of it, stands his false wife and daughter, who simply wave goodbye at him, while sadly claiming that they could have been his new family, alive and well, unscarred.
29) Knowing that if he didn't continue on now, he never would, Matt leaves with pain in his heart. Hollow as they were, Matt could barely bare to walk away from his family, even an illusion of them.
30) Matt's father catches up to him, and they make their way to the next realm.
31) Fifth unwritten chapter,

Gluttony:
30)

Greed:
30) Area of Hell in which Demons are about to sacrifice child souls, and Matt's father tests his morals by questioning whether he'll save them or not
31) Factory-like place torturing souls.

Wrath:

Heresy:
32) Matt and his father enters the Caverns of Heretics. Through the dark cave system, a stream of some dark liquid resembling tar, flows.
33) This is where the Cultists suffer and lurk. They sought to help their master turn the world into a place of eternal darkness, so that is what the Business Man rewarded them with. After Matt Robinson dispatches a few, he notices that their eyes have literally been ripped out/sowed close.

Violence:
34) Flashback where Matt is telling Ryan about the things he'd like to see done to the Masked Man. "He can never be forgiven."
35) Matt finds his mother hung deep into Hell and learns of her suicide. When he tries to save her, his father turns against him.
36) Matt finds Ryan, his torture being locked in an endless battle. But the forces immediately focus on Matt when he appears. After an unsuccessful attempt to save his brother, Ryan refuses any further attempts, preferring to face his punishment than drag his brother down anymore. "Remember what you said? I can never be forgiven." Ryan throws himself into a pit, falling even further into Hell.

Fraud:
37) At some point, Matt comes face to face with a mirror in which he sees himself as a child with Ryan, and the Business Man is standing behind them smiling. Then, it changes to an image of Sarah imprisoned and tortured, furious, Matt tries to punch the mirror as he did in Hellbound, but gets trapped by it.
38) Mimic demons taunting Matt
39)Mimic demons show Matt a twisted version of Sarah's death, in which an undead Sarah arises and accuses him of his failure.
40) He sees himself on his bathroom floor with his hand that went into the mirror overflowing with blood. The Business Man suggest that Matt died that night, showing Ryan in front of both Matt and Sarah's graves.
41) Alicia joins mocking Matt, insinuating that he was entirely unable to fulfill his promise of protecting Sarah.
42) Matt finds and talks with Abel. Matt reflects on how he was unable to save any of his family's souls. Specifically, he talks about how he believes to have betrayed his brother, and how killing him had burned into his heart. Abel tells Matt that he had things wrong, that it was Ryan who betrayed him. While indeed Matt had killed him, it was Ryan who was the traitor. He then reveals that the Business Man wishes to see the same that has become of him happen for Sarah. The Business Man hopes to see all the good be drained from Sarah, rendering her powerless and without purity. Matt's resolve is strengthened by Abel's words, and continues on, getting ever closer to the end of his path.

Treachery:
43) He finally makes it to the very bottom of Hell, which is nothing more than an ocean of ice. Matt remarks that he never thought it would be one of fire. The Business Man appears, and comments that he liked Dante's version of Hell the best. The Business Man smiles, and points to the Protectors that are descending down, to try and save Sarah, to take her away from Matt forever.
44) Upon this revelation, Matt snaps and attacks the very angellic forces that wish to save his daughter from the torments of Hell. As he killed one after another, the mocking and stinging laughter of the Business Man rings in his ears. He talks about how the Business Man's trick had worked. He then could only see the servants of the Light as they were, his enemies.
45) Unwritten chapter about a surviving Protector that hears the cries of Sarah nearby, while Matt is too absorbed in the violence he was committing towards his heavenly brothers. The survivor is determined. Sarah Robinson would be saved, but when the Protector arrived back in the world of light... he would see Matt Robinson damned forever for what he's done.
46) As Matt looks at himself, covered in the blood of Angels, the Business Man appears smiling his trademark grin. "While you still no doubt see me as nothing but an enemy, even now, I still see you as my greatest asset. The most tragic thing is that perhaps in another life and in another world, I could have been the same to you. A great friend, a great ally... dare I say, perhaps even your guardian angel?" The Business Man once more finds himself suffering to a bout of cruel and heartless laughter, and Matt Robinson only screams that he'll pay, and that he isn't leaving with his daughter. The final fight begins.
47) The fight is brought to a violent end, with Matt having the advantage, after he managed to directly hit the Business Man in the face with his sword. The Business Man backs away, blood oozing from his face which he has covered with his hands. His voice changes, to a much darker/Satanlike tone.
48) "You insolent mortal! You dare believe you can truly triumph over me? I am the corrupter of man and angels, the figure lurking in the shadows, stealer of souls, traitor to all, ruiner of lives! The snake descending from the branches of the tree of knowledge, the spreader of sin, the great tempter, the very shadow of your pathetic God! Satan, Lucifer, Business Man, Fallen Angel, Dark Lord, the Unholy One! No matter what name is used, my legacy and impact on your world and the entire universe will outlast the pathetically short lives of both you and your daughter a thousand times over! For all in all, there is nothing unique about you. You are nothing more than a dead man, a lost soul to be sorted into the others, to be devoured. I, on the other hand, am the Morning Star! This is as far as you will go, Matt! Neither you or Cain will ever leave my domain!"
49) The suited form of the Business Man boils away, and the black substance that results from it, lands on the icy surface of the bottom of Hell. Soon, a tiny crack becomes a gigantic one, as the unleashed form of the Morning Star rises. The gigantic form of Lucifer arises from underneath of the ice. He possesses two terrifying horns, blood red eyes, a maw of razor sharp teeth, a pair of gigantic batlike wings, and two pummeling and crushing hands. From beneath the ice, arises a horde of souls entirely corrupt.
50) Lucifer battles the Dead Man. Before the Dead Man successfully bests him, he manipulates the souls of the traitors he has harvested, and directs them towards Matt Robinson. Caught in their stream, Matt fights as the traitors try to literally tear him to shreds. Matt overcomes this however, and uses all of the power he still has left, to perform one final attack. He slashes all three of the faces of Lucifer, and vertically cuts open his chest.
51) Lucifer reverts to his Business Man form, only bloodied and broken. Falling to his knees, he finds support in his walking cane, which is the only thing preventing him from keeping himself up. As Matt Robinson walks towards him still with bloodied sword in his hands, the Business Man begins to laugh, subtly at once, but increasingly becomes louder. Matt Robinson is thrown into a panic, for the Business Man shouldn't be laughing. He was finally beat. But that was when the Business Man muttered, "there he goes..."
52) Matt Robinson looks behind him just in time to see the last Protector take off into the sky, desperately flapping his wings, with nothing but the thoughts of freedom from this abyss on his mind. In his arms, is Sarah Robinson. Matt screams in fury, and chases him upwards. "She cannot be taken from me again!" But no matter how hard he tries, the Protector has slipped his grasp. Realizing that indeed, the Business Man had won again, and loses all motivation to continue flying. His wings stop flapping, and he once more begins to fall, towards the icy surface of the bottom of Hell. But mere moments from impacting, his sorrow and desire to give up is converted into pure rage. He stops his fall, and lands on his feet, and glares towards the Business Man, who has not moved from where he's still kneeling, but has at least stopped laughing.
53) Consumed by his fury, he launches himself towards the Business Man. And continuously attacks him savagely, with each attack, he screams that it was for someone. For Alicia, for Ryan, for even the characters he fought but wished to save in Hellbound. For humanity, for the world, and etc. But as he prepares the finishing blow, which is for Sarah, the Business Man puts his bloodied hand up, indicating that he still has more to say.
54) "It would be a shame if you were to not listen to my final words, Mr. Robinson. Even I would have dealt you that generosity, if our situations were flipped. What is the rush, anyways? You've beaten me, and your daughter has escaped you once more. The next journey you will undertake, if you truly do wish to save her, will be far more perilous than the one you have finished walking today. Down through Hell you tumbled, eagerly racing to try and save Sarah. You've become truly powerful, even without Cain, have you not? But don't you wonder... even perhaps worry, that all of this has just been nothing more than training, to make you a suitable candidate for my replacement? My realm has been cold and dark for too long. You and Cain were always the spark I needed... the spark to reignite the inferno that once burned so ferociously, with the sins of mankind acting as gasoline. It's a shame indeed, that I will not be able to cause the undoing with my own hands, but that is always why I've had a backup plan. You. Besides, am I to be the Devil this world needs, when a mortal man managed to traverse my realm and consume me? No, while I am evil incarnate, I lack the true strength you possess. But, all of this doesn't matter. After all, none of this has yet been decided. While you have inflicted true and grim wounds, I can recover as I always have, if given time..."
55) "Besides, I shall not force you to take my throne of darkness and corruption, if you truly don't wish to. If you spare me, I will certainly become powerful again and seek vengeance on you for this day just as you have sought vengeance against me for everything I've done against your family. But if you consume me, then I literally become a part of you. Any hopes of redemption will be quelled forever, but you would have the keys to my kingdom, and more importantly... the route to your daughter, who awaits in the Kingdom of Heaven. But the question you must ask yourself, will she truly still see you as who you once were? Or will she see you as you now are? The Dead Man, killer of the Business Man. The new Lucifer. Do not make this choice without thinking, Mr. Robinson. Of all the points of no return you've faced, this will by far be your most significant."
56) Matt thinks it over, and realizes that both options are flawed. If he spares him, he spares the Business Man. If he consumes him, he will become his replacement. But only one option will lead him to his daughter. Matt Robinson once more wields his sword, and again approaches the Business Man.
57) "You will be my legacy. My gift to the world of Light. They will all burn and wither away, before things come to a complete end."
58) Matt attacks the Business Man one more time, and he entirely dissipates into darkness. Then, all at once, Matt Robinson consumes it all. It feels as if poison is working through his veins, and he collapses against the ice, with one of his hands falling on the Business Man's walking cane, which has since fallen. The moment he touches it, the voices of the dead ones he has consumed over his journey return all at once and he can see nothing but the Protector carrying away Sarah. Stealing her from him. All at once, the icy ocean on which he stood began to crack. From beneath, began to boil the dark waters that contained the souls of traitors. Eventually, flames raged from below. Matt Robinson stands on a single still unmelted piece of ice, with the Business Man's walking cane in his hands.
59) With the Business Man's power, he reopens the section of Crossroads in which Cain is trapped. Matt's last words as Cain emerges into Hell, are the following, and he stares upward through the dark void above while he says it:
60) "I guess I'm the real thing now. Sorry, Sarah... I let you down again."
61) The novel ends with an unwritten chapter, involving Matt and Sarah visiting Alicia's grave in Aren Cemetery. Matt comforts his daughter by telling her that she's in a better place.
