Lexicon Listed here in by categories are terms, words, phrases, and the like that you might not fully understand in regards to the Lore and Cannon of Bewilderness. I hope this truly helps your immersion into this site. Thank you. The Faerie Courts Winter Court: All members sworn to Winter and its successes. To be Winter-Bound is to be part of the Court, and to be part of the Court is to be called upon by any of the Winter Rulers to do their bidding. Winter-Bound/Sworn: Sworn a lifetime of service to the Winter Faerie Court. Winterlands: Land owned and inhabited by members of the Winter Court. Mother Winter: She is “The Queen Who Was,” the old hag of the Winter Triad. She has now taken to living in near solitude in cabin within the depths of the Nevernever with Mother Winter. She is hardly never seen and rarely spoke of. Queen Mab: “The Queen Who Is,” the high ruler of the Winter Court. She is as cold and ruthless in her cruelty as she is true to her exact word. Lady Maeve: “The Queen Who Is To Be,” the youngest ruler of the Winter Court. Her duties usually entail debauchery, trickery, and deception. She wears next to nothing and appears as a beautiful young woman. Unseelie: A formal term/title for the faeries of the Winter Court. Summer Court: All members sworn to Summer and its successes. To be Summer-Bound is to be part of the Court, and to be part of the Court is to be called upon by any of the Summer Rulers to do their bidding. Summer-Bound/Sworn: Sworn a lifetime of service to the Summer Faerie Court. Summerlands: Land owned and inhabited by members of the Summer Court. Mother Summer: She is “The Queen Who Was,” the old hag of the Summer Triad. She has now taken to living in near solitude in cabin within the depths of the Nevernever with Mother Winter. She is hardly never seen and rarely spoke of. Queen Titania: “The Queen Who Is,” the high ruler of the Summer Court. She is as and evasive in her cunning as she is true to her exact word. Lady Aurora: “The Queen Who Is To Be,” the youngest ruler of the Summer Court. Her duties include caring for the younger aged Fae in the Summerlands, keeping the general peace, and appears as a beautiful young woman. Seelie: A formal term/title for the faeries of the Summer Court. Titles Among the Fae Unsworn: Neutral in terms of serving a Faerie Court. Non-hostile to either side and will give aid if needed, but neither does an unsworn goes out of their way to help or hinder either side. Unsworn are usually a non-Fae (as it is unusual for Fae to not be sworn to a Court) so this term is rarely used in reference to a Neutral Fae. Season-Bound: One who is sworn allegiance to a Faerie Court, usually a non-Sidhe. It is unusual for a Sidhe to not be sworn to a Court, so this term is used in reference to Neutral Fae and other faeires and fae of the Nevernever. Court Sworn: Title given to a Sidhe who is sworn loyalty to a Faerie Court. Neutral Fae: A Fae who is not sworn and bound to a Faerie Court. The reasons could be because they are a changling, because they were lost from the Nevernever before they were old enough to be officially sworn in, or be a neutral creature of the Nevernever and therefore have no need or inclination to give loyalty to a specific court.. Broken: One who breaks their vow of being Season-Bound or Court Sworn. A Broken is in danger from both Courts, as they are seen as a traitor and not welcomed on either side. Wyldfae: Creatures of the Nevernever, who although are considered ‘Fae’ in the truest of ways, have their own culture, agenda, and motivations. Most Wyldfae are creature-like, baring little or no human alikeness in their postures and/or speech. Faerie: The most common of Fae, biped creatures who may or may not have wings, and have access to magic, powers, and mysticism that most creatures and beings do not have. Faeries can range in many sizes, shapes, colors, alliances, and motivations. Faeries, being fae, cannot break their vows of promise, cannot speak lies, and are very manipulative in gaining what they desire. Sidhe: Proper term for the faeries who are human in size or larger, and to those who hold a significant amount of magic at their disposal. Sidhe are always Court Sworn to their birth-family's Court. Very few instances of this being not true are documented. Fae: Any being, creature, or living thing in the Nevernever who make their home there, have a family history in the realm, and would be considered ‘mythic’ and ‘supernatural’ by Earth-Human standards. Fae cannot break their promised given word and must tell the truth always. They are however very manipulative overall and excel at bending the truth. Little Folk: A race of faerie that are small, ranging in size from a pin-point to 1.5 feet long toes to head. They have little concern with the affairs and Court wars of the ‘Big Folk’ and keep to themselves. They value having fun and believe that causing trouble is to be of most importance. If you’ve gained the alliance and friendship of a Little Folk you have gained a friend for life. Land of Bewilderness Nevernever: The land of the supernatural, fae, and all things that have come up in fairy tale myths, legends, and lore. Nevernever lies alongside the mortal realms of the universe and often mirror what happens in the mortal realm. A happy well light section of land will be likewise in Nevernever, while a seedy bar with shady going-ons will be just as creepy in the Nevernever’s flipside. Most beings use Waypoints to travel through the Nevernever, some even jumping between mortal and fae lands to travel faster. Time does not follow the same rules of the mortal realm, as does exact land-for-land. A general similarity will be there in essence (feelings) only, but one foot of solid ground in Nevernever might be 1,000 miles of ocean in a mortal world. Waypoints: A transportation point between and among the mortal to fae and within fae land of Nevernever. A waypoint is either well or barely known and leads specifically from one place to another. (A/The) Way: Pathways of inter-dimensional time and space travel. The actual traveling done between waypoints. “I’m using a Way to travel from one Waypoint to the next.” Firelight: A strange purple-fire lit floor lamp that burns the hedgegrove mist away. It beckons to travelers and holds an air of mystery and inspires awe within them. Mists: Whisps of corporal magic surrounding the land of Bewilderness. It is not mist in the sense of it being made of water, rather it is a fence of lightly-multi-colored magic to keep Bewilderness safe from potentially harmful Fae wishing to enter. The mists dampen harsh energies that may come around. No one knows how they came to be stationed around the perimeter of Bewilderness. You must walk through the mists to enter the lands of either the Summer or Winter Court. People of Bewilderness Citizen: Someone who has been living in Bewilderness within the past 50 years, or has a racial history of a group who has been living in Bewilderness. Races span from Fae, faerie, creature, mythological creature, and more, but all live in peace and tolerance of each other - despite any difference in race, age, gender, species, and Court alliance. Hedgecrawler: Term used by Citizens to distinguish themselves from the new arrivals that have been entering Bewilderness. Derogatory in its creation and use, and born out of fear of the unknown, most Citizens have began to lean towards using this term with hurtful intentions. Hedgecrawlers do not hold the same values, beliefs, and tolerance for the customs of the Nevernever and Bewilderness itself, after all. In many cases, Citizens believe Hedgecrawlers should just go back to where they came from. The Council: A group of people from near all cognitive races of the Nevernever who live in Bewilderness. They are responsible for keeping peace, making the Laws, and ensuring their own race has a voice if problems to arise. To be continued as needed Edited by Rain Redbriar, Monday Sep 16 2013, 01:56 PM.
