All the background material is now up; if you lack anything in particular though that you feel should be there before character creation can commence, please suggest it here and we'll see if I can accomodate you. Much information I am deliberately going to hold back since a big part of this game will be for your characters to discover ingame just what the hell is going on around them and who the people they have known possibly their whole lives really are. Keep in mind also that the information about Ivywood that I've posted is what is commonly known. Your characters will receive some additional information that is known to them about the people closest around them. Regarding the surrounding world, most locals have a rather limited knowledge of it, but you will have to judge, depending on the life your character has lead, how educated they are about such things. The idea is that your characters are newly turned vampires or werewolves, or young witches who have just discovered their powers. Meaning that vampires and werewolves don't need to be young as someone can be turned at any age (no one is born a werewolf in this setting), but witches should be in their teens. You can of course nplay regular humans too, if you wish. You are welcome to take on more than one character. The material you should produce is one character background that is for me, to use so as to better intergrate your characters into the plot. Please no more than two pages, as I have to read several of those backgrounds. It should contain main events in your characters life, their personality traits and important figures in your characters lives. Here you are welcome to ask me to create NPCs for such characters; if you mean for the important figures in your character's background to be supernatural creatures themselves, you need to run those characters by me and get them approved because I will have a set of NPCs that have certain roles to play. You cannot, for example, invent the character who is the werewolf pack leader and have it feature in your background without asking me, but you can ask me if you can play the child of the werewolf packleader and then have me tell you about what the werewolf packleader is like so that you can use that character to feature in your background. In other words, I want you to work with me during the character creation process rather than just present me with a finished product that I may end up having trouble fitting into the setting because it collides with stuff. Other than the main background, I want you to also write a shorter bio that is for posting on the board so everyone can read it. Anything that goes in that bio is stuff that any character in the area can find out about your character just by asking around a bit. That means that not all characters will necessarily know everything in the bios about each other as we start, but they can find it out easily enough. So no secrets in the bio. You are welcome to post pictures of your character in the bio, as well as use an avatar to show us what your character looks like. Avatars can be a maximum of 150x150 pixels. I would really prefer if you use drawn pictures and not photos of real people, but as I know that the former feels very restrictive for some players I'm allowing it this time around. As long as you don't use pictures of celebrities that we all know who they are. That means that most actors will be off limits, for instance. Yes, even if they just feature in A game of thrones. The bottom line is that anything that makes the other players think of the person and not your character is bad. If you have a picture you want to use that needs some photoshopping, I can help you with that. If you change your mind about your character's nam after you've registered an account, just ask me and I can help you alter the name, but you won't be able to do it on your own, I think. It'd be good if you registered accounts soon, so that you can start talking to each other as well here, in case you want to tie your characters together or some such. Or just say hi to the others. Some of you know each other from before, some of you don't. We won't be using stats or dice in this game, so you should write a little bit in your extended character background about what skills your character possesses. Based on that and their experiences, I will GM this in a free form style. It is permitted to play characters who are not originally from Ivywood county, but the idea is that at least most of the characters should be, so hopefully not everyone will make foreigners who moved in recently. |
