Looks like all of them, including mine, were shipped at the same time then. I chatted with DHL and confirmed that the scheduled delivery date for mine is Monday. So far I haven't seen anything on the KNC forums about US shipments being held up in customs. If they are, hopefully it won't be more than a day. I will certainly open it up and check for plastic on the heatsink. Also, I'm reading that they don't generate an awful lot of heat and they are a lot quieter than you might expect. one comment was that it was about as noisy as a PC. |

Hopefully the plastic will be easily seen if it's on the sink without having to remove it. I am competent in computer repair but man if I am ever so careful around a 2000 dollar computer that isn't 100% mine, hell I'm careful around all computers but it's like walking on broken glass. I'll need a sweat rag to swab the beads of water before they fall inside and fry something out. Also it's in Belgium right now.

One of my Joops is out for delivery today, so customs was a breeze. The item is marked I'm camped out on the front porch. And I'll try not to knock the delivery guy down when I rush him for my package....but I'm not promising anything. GAHHHH...IT'S HERE! I'll post an update in a bit. |

Okay, so I didn't take any pictures because it looks exactly like KNC's :-) I can say that it arrived in really good shape and the box had no damage at all. The only issue was a fan had fallen off of the heat sink, so I had to open up the case to snap that back on. The case screws are Torx, so have your wrenches ready. I pulled off one of the heatsinks just to make sure the plastic film wasn't there and it wasn't. I didn't see it peeking out from the others so I went ahead and powered it up. One of the boards has high temp, so I'll be watching it. The web interface is straightforward. It came with firmware version .95. . 96.1 is the latest but I won't upgrade unless I have issues… Which I do. I'm only hashing at 260 gh/s, as are a bunch of people. There are lots of posts with people complaining about this very same thing. I'm a bit pissed off at the moment. I tried several suggestions, including upgrading with the enablecores.bin, but nothing has helped yet. At this point, it seems to be a hardware issue. Others with the same symptoms are seeing very low amp readings on some of the chips. Now I am installing a modification a forum user created which will show detailed statistics. After I get this installed, I'll know if it's the same thing. So far, I'm not very happy with the decision to purchase these. Even the shipping should have been next day UPS, which is what we all paid for. (Bunch of folks complaining about this too) With that and the grossly underperforming hardware, KNC has really set themselves up for a bunch of PayPal disputes, which I will be doing if I am not up to 500gh/s on all three miners by the end of next week. I will keep working on this, though. Hopefully I can make some progress soon. I don't give up easily :-) |

Sounds like a whole lot of trouble. You may still have plastic under one of the heatsinks if you're under performing. It could possibly be down clocking to keep itself from melting down. |

Nah, I tested, disconnecting all but one board and got a reading on each one. Two of them give about 20-30 GH and the others run at 100+, which explains the 260GH figure. There is a 'controller' board with six ports on it and the four boards plug into that. I even tried plugging a 'bad' board into the port a 'good' board was plugged in to, but it made no difference. The temps are in the low 40's C, which is <120F. I ran cgminer manually from an SSH session and I get tons of hardware errors too. Others are having the same issue as well with around 250GH speed. KNC is still silent on this so far. Seems they aren't answering the phone now. |

Well they are getting tons of complaints. Well we'll see. they're the first asic company that almost made their deadline. you could say they rushed things a bit. I think they'll make it right somehow. So you'll have to send it back or wait for a replacement part to get 100% function. I'd wait for the part. |

There are 2 bad dies, apparently, as the output below shows 0Amps on two boards. They didn't test these, it seems. The temps are climbing a bit as well, so I'll likely have to re-seat the heat sinks tomorrow. Maybe one or two has a film after all. I hear you on them fixing it. My concern is that I have $21k invested in these and even the Jupiters won't pay for their own electricity at some point in the very near future. I need a fix quick. ![]() The output below should show this for all four. Two show 0 amps, so they're doing no hashing at all. Yeah man, you can buy ten houses in certain parts of the country right now for that kind of dough. Not that you'd want to live there. Does it look easy to replace? Like pop and drop sort of deal? |

It seems ORSoC dropped the ball here. The rest of the hardware seems to be doing what it's supposed to do aside from a few quality control issues. KnC is probably a wee bit annoyed with them now. |

I have been browsing the KNC forums hoping someone has stumbled upon something that would fix or help with the problem, but nothing yet. In fact, I am seeing a lot of posts from people who received Mercury and Saturn miners and they are having the same problem. Bottom line is KNC shipped a bunch of bad boards, either knowingly or unknowingly, because they didn't test. Either way, this is bad news. Hopefully you received a better unit. |

It seems there are a few bad boards, but it also seems there's more good boards out there than bad boards. I only found a small percentage of people on the KnC forums with serious issues, others complaining about lower hash rates that are low by KnC standards but are still acceptable IMO. I hope your other 2 Jupiters are fully functional. That would bring you closer to ROI much faster, yet you still need to get your first one fixed. If this one arrives dead I'll be more than slightly annoyed. If it under performs a little, I won't mind too much. If it under performs a lot, I'll look into some compensation/repair. |
