Ran the diagnostic tool; The results

I downloaded and ran the diagnostic tool from KnC. Looks like we have 1 bad die out of 4. I just emailed KnC about some resolution. I feel we can still ROI on this machine barring any more glitches so I asked them for a house credit, or a discount on a future upgrade board or something. I did also ask for a note to be put in the file as this board did not pass the diagnostic therefor making it at least partially defective and we shouldn't have to put up with that. (I'm in full agreement Gump)

Code:

System upgrade in progress
Analyzing start-up log... Ok
Starting ASIC boards test...
InitA started in ASIC TEST MODE
BBB S/N: A335BNLT0A5C3713912191
LM75 OK. Temperature = 28.0°C
TPS65217 OK. Modification A, revision 1.1
Testing ASIC board #0... No board found
Testing ASIC board #1... No board found
Testing ASIC board #2... No board found
Testing ASIC board #3... No board found
Testing ASIC board #4... No board found
Testing ASIC board #5...
Map: FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Die #0 failed
Restarting mining...

edit: we have been issued an RMA number and they assured me I can use it later. I'd rather keep the machine running as much as possible for now since we don't have any time to waste. Once the unit ROI I can consider sending it back, or we can keep it in it's crippled state.

I've been trying to get an RMA for a week, with no reply. Not sure what's up with that.

Aaaand they released an unofficial firmware, version 9.8.1. All of my die0's have been resurrected and I'm hashing at 535, but it's way hot, so I'm upping the cooling.

I went ahead and Installed the other two and I just hit 500gh on ne and am creeping up slowly past 350 on the last. I'm waaaay beyond ecstatic...so far.

-UPDATE-

It 'fixed' 2 out of 3. The board test still fails the asic_test script, this beta firmware update just turns on the power to the chip anyway...or more accurately, it doesn't turn it off...so it will function as expected. Not sure why it doesn't help all three. Maybe slightly different hardware or maybe it's more defective.

It did help most folks at least.

Wow, 71 is a bit toasty. The others look okay on the most part.

Where is this beta firmware? Posted on the forums?

Never mind, found it.

OMG. It seems to have fixed MANY issues. Hash rates have gone up immediately. Temp is up to 60.00c at the moment. Looks like all 4 dies are working.

Another odd thing is hardware errors dropped dramatically also.

Temp is now up to 63c, a bit hot, but we'll see. I'm not getting any hardware errors to speak of either.

Had a little downtime there. I replaced the case but I had to take it off again. Without the case the temps run 62.5-63.5c. With the case it was rising past 66c. Some say that's hot, others don't know. I think in my case this patch fixed the device. Some people are claiming operating 50-55c with 6% hw errors, but this chip with the beta firmware gets nearly zero hardware errors and runs around those temps above. I think it's fixed, at least as fixed as it's going to get. It's running at 139-140 GH/s right now. :)

Knock on a forest, like a whole damn forest. ;)

what speed is it running at? and what pool are you on?

It's running a solid 142 GH/s. I'm still mining split between BitMinter and Eligius.

After running all night on 9.8.1, the speeds on mine were/are: 554/560, 551/503 490/350. They were all around 420 on .9.8. I reverted back to .98 on the last one and it is back at 420. So two dropped off; one quite severely. A net boost of 134gh and 80gh, though, so I'm pleased with that.

Hopefully ours can maintain.
