If you were to go to Google, as I did, and type in "social welfare", there are 9.56 million search results that come up. All of the definitions agree that it is defined as the program by which individuals and families are provided assistance of some sort. Most people would call it "food stamps", but it goes by a variety of names.

With this in mind, I fail to see how any political group - Republican OR Democratic in leaning - whose main purpose is to raise money to back various candidates can claim to be a social welfare group. None of the money they collect is given to those in need as the definition of social welfare states it should. They kept the money for themselves to distribute to political candidates as they saw fit.

I fail to understand how, then, they can cry foul over being asked to provide additional information for the IRS in order to have 501(c)(4) status. Every single organisation which files for that status is scrutinised, no matter who controls the government. This time, there were simply a few who went about it the wrong way. I heard an interview a week or so back with a former IRS director who stated as much. Those who were scrutinising the details of the work of these so-called "social welfare" groups used the wrong search terms and someone found out about it.

Now these groups are acting as though the government tried to prevent them from speaking out about their beliefs. No one said, you cannot exist as a group because we disagree with your ideals. None of them were imprisoned for their political beliefs - which is often what happens in other countries if you pay attention to world events. None of them were even killed for their convictions. They were simply denied the right to avoid paying taxes. Anyone with have a brain knows there are two things which are certain in life: death and taxes. These idiots need to get over themselves and move on instead of crying like a bunch of babies. We have enough children in Washington D.C. trying to run this country.
