Name: Alasse Dorthonion Race: Altmer/High Elf Age: 20 Gender: Female Sign: The Lady Faction: Imperial Cult Rank: Priestess Appearance: ![]() Unlike most Altmer, Alasse has slightly tanned skin due to not being born on Summerset Isle, where her ancestors came from, with uncommon eyes the color of deep blue sapphires. Her long chocolate-brown hair hangs down to the small of her back in a loose yet slightly wavy veil. Still being young in years, this barely five-foot tall woman hasn't 'filled out'. Facial-wise, it displays youth yet an innocent sense of wisdom, with smooth features and semi-high cheekbones. WIth one look, anyone could tell if she was pleased with something, or upset...and her eyes help convey that emotion. Her weight is around 125 pounds. Armor/Clothing: Her normal attire consists of a simple dress underneath a set of robes befitting her status as a priestess of the Nine. These robes are white in color, and have the symbols of the Nine in a circle around where the heart lies in silver thread. There is a set of jewelry that she is never seen without: a ring, necklace, and circlet set made of silver and sapphires that were a collective gift from her parents before she set out to become a member of the Cult. While traveling, she wears a hooded cloak of similar make as the robes, but the symbols of the Nine are on the back in the same pattern. There is a set of sandals that grace her feet, although in colder weather she will switch to some boots with fur on the inside to protect her feet. There is a leather belt around her waist which special holders for both an elven mace and a staff of oak with a white stone on top; the latter is to help focus her magic. Weapons: The only weapons this Altmer possesses are an elven mace and a oaken staff with a white stone on top for her magical use. Possessions: Aside from the clothes on her back and the weapons she carries, Alasse has a small pouch of gold coins, and a small knapsack filled with dried meats, cheeses, some apples, and a waterskin. Another of her possessions is a small book full of prayers and blessings from the Nine Divines. Personality: Like many of those born under the sign on the Lady, Alasse is a kind and generous soul. Despite being made a priestess of the Nine, she isn't one to force the religion on people if they wish not to hear. Instead, she pities them, and answers questions to those that ask about the faith. She's willing to help those that need assistance, and is generally one that likes to speak with people...although there are a few times where even a kind and considerate Altmer can lose her cool...and that is if anyone insults her family or tries to deny that Talos - or Tiber Septim - is indeed a god. There are times when her faith blinds her, and tends to judge some people harshly, but those instances are very rare, mostly on the occasion that she encounters a person bearing symbols of some other cult or religion, but most of the time she remembers the lessons of Mara and acts in compassion and shows acceptance to all. Bio: In the third era, in the year 385, during the month of Heartfire, a little Altmeri girl was born to the humble couple of Althea and Jasion Dorthonion in the city of Mournhold. From that moment on, the three did almost everything together as she spoke her first words and took her first steps, never wanting to leave her family even for a moment. It seemed that The Lady had looked favorably upon this child, as during chores, she would willingly help out, struggling with heavier items like water-filled buckets and brooms that were far too big for her little hands...but despite that, there was a smile ever present on her face as she slowly grew from infant to toddler. There seemed to be an eagerness to learn, so whatever books the family had in their home, Alasse would read and memorize anything...even asking her loving parents to purchase more; she figured if the more she learned, the more she could help her family obtain more money, and help them to lead better lives. Such a mature thought for such a young child, but even then, work seemed fun at the time...especially when after reading so many books, there were 'tests' of sorts that her father would come up with: if she passed, Alasse would receive a special treat, and if not...she studied harder. Despite this studious attitude, the young girl still had plenty of time to play and make friends, which she did with some of the children of other citizens in Mournhold. Each year, the 'library' within their home increased little by little, spreading from a small stack or two of books to a full wall, and each year the young Altmer grew to become a more intelligent young woman. Also while growing up and expanding her knowledge, Alasse was learning some of the trades of the home. Her mother Althea was a tailor, and would often allow the young elf to help her sew simple clothes together to sell at her shop in the Great Bazaar, and sometimes in her spare time, she would watch her father Jasion create pieces of armor in a small forge behind his house; on his off days he would head outside to search for some ore or gems to bring home and use finer techniques to create jewelry for his wife and daughter to sell as well as the clothing they made. Despite their humble beginnings, the family of three led a modest lifestyle, paying their dues to the government and even donated to the poor and the temples...which was where Alasse got her first taste of religion. Despite having the majority of the population having a faith based on the Tribunal God Almalexia, there was talk about another religion...albeit smaller than the current faith but strong in its own right, which had shrines all over the Empire. Curiosity overtook the Altmer brunette then, and once she was old enough, Alasse started asking about what this strange faith called the 'Nine' was. At first, her request was refused...but finally her mother caved in and explained that instead of just the Tribunal, the Nine were a group of cults put together to establish their own 'pantheon' of sorts. One day, the two went to the shrine, which allowed Alasse to learn a bit more about who the Nine were and what each one did; she especially liked the goddess Mara, who encompassed love and compassion, and Kynareth, the goddess of the heavens and the rain. While maturing from child to young adult, Alasse would still attend some services at the Tribunal Temple if only to give charity to the poor...but would always ask if they could go to the Cult shrine and pay their respects there as well. Over the years, her faith seemed to shift over to the Nine, slowly but surely, and this was brought upon by some of the teachings of Mara, that all was welcomed in compassion's embrace, which called to her more than Almalexia's accepting yet strict policies. During that time, she would often ask to watch and possibly learn some of the healing magics the priests would use on the sick and injured. It didn't take her long to get the healing basics down, so not only in addition to helping her mother and father earn money, the Altmer would help out at the Shrine and learned more about the Nine. This often came in handy if Althea poked her finger on a needle, or Jasion burned himself accidentally on the forge while crafting bars of metal to work on later. Over the years, not only did she learn additional minor spells, but also some in the Alteration branch of magic, mostly on learning what sort of creature can 'bestow' what sort of enchantment...such as spider's souls possibly giving a dagger a poisoned blade, and so on. Her teens were some of the better years of her life, in which she learned a lot. Not only did she receive lessons from the priests at the Shrine, but she practiced those at home, especially in the Alteration field, having been given several samples of harmless soul gems to try out to see their effects. Some helped her mother's business...while others not so much. It didn't matter though; Alasse was learning magic, was learning even more about the Nine Divines each passing day, and helping her family make a bit more money thanks to her increasing skills. Up until this time, she hadn't told either the priests at the Temple or those at the Shrine she was seeing both, and upon realizing that the two sides didn't exactly like each other, Alasse made her appearances at the Temple less and less frequent, until she stopped altogether. This was when she made her formal decision to join the Cult...earning a bit of shock from her parents, but in wanting to see her happy, they gave their consent. After saving up the needed gold to join officially, she went to the Shrine and petitioned. Needing new members, they gladly accepted, still not realizing that she was a previous member of the Temple. After swearing the necessary oaths to serve the Nine faithfully, she was officially a priestess charged with spreading the faith of the Nine Divines wherever she went, and assisting those that needed it. Those duties was to see to the poor of the city, healing the sick, and pretty much running errands to start. These meager tasks she did with a smile on her face, and made sure to avoid being seen by those of the Temple, knowing they didn't take too kindly on those that turned from 'their' faith to something foreign. She never pushed the issue on religion unless they asked, and when that time came (there had been a few curious people), she explained in a way they could understand and think on, not feeling like they had to join or visit the shrine. That and some of them were still going to the Temple, but seemed to hurry back there when other Temple worshippers spotted them. So each day she did her duties as humbly as possible, and gave advice and taught about the Nine whenever she could. A year went by since her acceptance into the priesthood when a message came through that they needed a group of people to head into the mountains west of the city and look for a rare artifact that was claimed to have immense healing powers, as in curing someone near the brink of death. One of the priests in charge decided to take Alasse and another newly initiated priestess named Firileia and head there; this would give the two some practice in not only their magics, but also on some combat skills as well. The journey there went uneventful with a few encounters with some wildlife, and within two days, arrived at the somewhat hidden cavern in the mountains. Conjuring up some light so they could see in the darkness, the trio descended, listening for any sounds that would alert them of possible hostile intent as well as keeping an eye out for the relic. It wasn't long before they noticed a group of spiders nesting in some of the more open places inside the cavern, and as they tried to slip by, Alasse stumbled upon a rock, alerting the arachnids to their presence. Getting up quickly, she called upon a flame atronarch to help defend her as the older priest started swatting them back with his steel mace which was coated in a aura of flames. Firileia tried to get a summon of her own, but one of the spiders bit her, injecting its venom into her system. The result was almost immediate as she slumped to the floor, causing Alasse to try and do what she could with restoration magic to keep her alive. After the spiders were slain, they realized that they had to find that relic...or else Firileia would perish from the venom. While the Altmer supported the disabled priestess, the trio hurried on, taking care of enemies quickly before finally finding the relic...and not a moment too soon. As the priest figured out how to work its power, Alasse once again used her magic to try and help her friend. The artifact glowed with a silvery light, enveloping Firileia in it, and immediately she showed signs of improvement. Relief flooded through them all as they made their way back through the cave and back into the morning light. The relic now has a place in the Imperial Cult shrine, and is used in dire circumstances to help heal the more serious cases of illness. Now at the age of twenty, Alasse had been serving the Cult for about four years. The priests decided it was time for her to move on, to try and spread the word of the Nine further south, into the Black Marshes. After giving her a few final lessons in Conjuration and Restoration, as well as gifting her a staff that helps increase her healing prowess a little, she returned home to find that her parents were waiting with farewell gifts of their own. The pieces of jewelry she wears were made by her mother, while her father gave a mace in the style of the Altmer, elegant yet deadly-looking. Alasse was also given a knapsack full of prepared foods and several waterskins, knowing that the journey south wasn't going to be easy, but they realized that they couldn't wish for their daughter to stay here forever...especially if being in a city full of Dunmer had them considered as 'outsiders' and couldn't' achieve more than just making their businesses run. Stepping outside Mournhold's walls, Alasse took a deep breath, and set out alone for the first time...heading south toward the Black Marshes. The elderly priest named Corlion spoke, giving a small smile to his young protege. "It is time for you to head south to the Black Marshes, and spread the word of the Nine Divines there to those that desire to hear their words. Prepare your things, young one, and may the Nine smile upon you." There are others who had crowded around to offer their congratulations and offered words of encouragement to the Altmeri priestess, who merely blushed and took each word with the grace and humility that those conversations warranted; it wouldn't do well for someone like her to become prideful of such a position. Her mind still reeled with the news, considering three years ago was perhaps the first time she had stepped foot outside of her home of Mournhold; even then that was with two other people but this time...having to leave on her own to head south? After receiving instructions on how to reach the Black Marsh and what proper path to take to avoid unnecessary dangers, Alasse Dorthonion had bade farewell to her fellow priests and priestesses and went home to finish getting ready for the journey. But before she could leave the small shrine, her friend Firileia - another Altmeri that undertook the mission to recover that powerful healing relic with her - had called for her to wait. The brunette stopped and turned around, unsure of what she wanted. There was a staff in the other's hands which she carefully presented to Alasse. "It's a gift from me...as a way of thanking you for saving my life that day. The others helped me make it...and I wanted to give it to you sooner, but I wanted to make sure it looked good and worked right before giving it to you. Good luck on your journey, and write when you can; I want to hear all about the Marshes." Alasse took the staff gingerly in her hands as if it was made out of glass and looked it over. It was made of a strong wood, with an oval stone white as fresh snow on the top, locked in place by the wood that intertwined around it. "Thank you...I promise I will write when I can. And as for saving your life that day...you really did not need to repay me, because now I feel indebted to you and need to give you something to repay you!" The two laughed for some time before they embraced each other one last time. The Altmeri brunette ran home as fast as she could, clutching the staff in her hands. Hopefully her parents would understand that she had to leave, and would let her go; it was troublesome at first to even begin to understand the faith of the Divines, but now she was old enough to spread her wings to leave the nest...so to speak. Upon arriving home, Alasse slipped in the door, only to see her beloved parents standing near the table, with small gifts in their hands. Apparently word had spread - or they knew beforehand - that their daughter had to leave, and had prepared a few things to take with her on the journey. After admiring the craftsmanship of the staff, Jasion cleared his throat and presented his gift: a mace of elven design - elegant and deadly, yet light enough for her to swing without wearing her out too much. With that also came a leather belt and a place in which to hang it on, and a covering to keep the 'bladed' parts from hurting her when she was walking. "In case magic fails...better to have some backup. With this, know that I'm with you, even if you're far away." He explained, smiling despite the tears in his eyes as he hugged his only child. Alasse thanked him, then turned to her mother, who also had a gift to give. Upon opening it, the gleam of silver and sapphire caught her eye and left her speechless for a moment. "I helped make these...I took some lessons from your father in order to do so. I hope you like them." Althea spoke while watching her daughter try the pieces on. Altogether there was a circlet, a necklace, and a ring, each made of the same material and bore a slender yet elegant design. "Never forget who you are, or where you came from." The mother added as she finally caved in and sobbed as Alasse gave her a hug to thank her. The next few hours were spent getting the young priestess packed and ready for the trek south. Overall, she had a large knapsack full of dried meats, fruits, and bread, a couple waterskins, the sack of money she had saved from all the years of helping her family's business, and the gifts she received. With that, she felt ready to leave, even though she was more concerned on how they would get by without her. Alasse promised to write to them or at least send word during the trek and when she arrived, and after one final embrace between the trio, the Altmeri was soon out of the gates of Mournhold and on her way toward a wide-open yet unknown future. OK, here's the only thing: No bears and wolves in Morrowind. Other than that, great. |
