Woman's decomposing body found in car parked in Wal-Mart parking for three weeks after groundskeeper detected 'foul odor' while mowing grass near the vehicle

Authorities in Maryland are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found decomposing in her car in a Wal-Mart parking lot roughly three weeks after police say the woman died in that very spot.

The woman's body was found in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Elkton on Wednesday.

Police in Elkton are yet to release the woman's name as they continue to attempt to positively identify the remains. They have only said that she is believed to have been 37 years old and the vehicle in which she was found had a Delaware license plate.

Authorities say the woman's death doesn't appear to be suspicious.

'It doesn’t appear to be foul play,' Lt. Joseph Zurolo, an Elkton Police Department spokesman, tells CecilDaily.com.

The body was found about 3 p.m. Wednesday by a groundskeeper who was mowing grass near a pond on the Wal-Mart property.

The groundskeeper reported smelling a foul odor near a 2002 Chrysler Sebring that was parked near the pond - suspiciously far away from the store and where most of the customers and employees park.

'We estimate that the woman’s body had been there for about three weeks,' Zurolo said. 'The car was parked in an isolated area of the Walmart parking lot. It wasn’t in the mix with all of the other vehicles.'

Surveillance footage from the store shows the woman pull into the parking space on May 29. Authorities say the footage shows her getting out of the driver's side door and moving to the back seat.

'The car never moves after that,' Zurolo said.

The woman's body was taken to the Maryland State Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore, where an autopsy will be performed, Zurolo says.

Authorities would not say whether the woman had been reported missing, citing the ongoing investigation.

Unless, this woman had her car windows tint don't understand how this can go unnoticed in one of the busiest parking lot.

I agree, would it be safe to say they don't do parking lot checks for suspicious behavior?
