The day started like any other for Dorian, with him struggling to find his way out of his bed, partly due to his laziness, partly because he had been inconceivably tangled within his sheets and blankets. With a crash to the floor he found his way out, stumbling to the bathroom while half asleep, mornings never agreed with him. As he prepared for the day ahead he felt a pulse, not unlike the sensation he would feel when a hollow made it's presence known, but it was different somehow, and the strength of it weak, so he dismissed it. Whats on the list to do today? Let's see, I have to run some errands and then-- His thoughts were cut short as a sharper pulse hit him, he could not sense any reiatsu nearby so once again he dismissed the idea of a hollow. He took off out the door, in a bit of a hurry, wondering if it was his home that had been pulsating. As he walked toward the grocery store, he passed by quite a few people who were emitting stronger than average reiatsu, but they seemed casually unaware. They don't even realize they are pretty much holding a sign over their heads saying eat me. A small hollow about the size of a large frog, was hopping slowly towards one of the people. In his stride, Dorian walked over to it and crushed it beneath his heel, it dissipating into nothingness. "Your welcome" he said under his breath, knowing even a small hollow would eventually garner the attention of larger ones. Walking the streets, he felt small pulses hit him in rapid succession, he spun in place but saw nothing, this abnormality began to weigh on his mind. Each pulse differed, so it meant something, but what? "Who do I even turn to or ask about something like this?" He spoke aloud, no one was in the street, he sat on a bench collecting his thoughts, concentrating on his spiritual awareness. He would analyze the next eventual pulse, whenever it may hit, but after that, he knew not what to do. |

Keifer had none of the early morning problems of Dorian. He was quick to rise, and shot a casual glance to his alarm clock. 8:26AM...Right on time... He reached over, disabling the alarm before it could even go off, and making his way out of bed. His quick early morning routine, and he was ready for the day. Showered, teeth brushed, dressed, and he made his way to his study. He had more studying to do, not for school, but for Dorian. What WAS this man? He couldn't be a Quincy, he seemed too different, and he sure as hell wasn't a Shinigami. A short while later, he slammed his fist on the table. "BUT WHAT?!" Frustrated was an understatement. A book slid off a nearby shelf, conking him on the head, falling open on the table. He read the first few words of the page. "...Could it be...?" He shoved the book into his bag, slinging it over his shoulder and leaving. He was late. Keifer had his own errands for that day. Nothing big or difficult, simply shopping for dinner that night, and picking up a few needed groceries for the house. Bread, sandwich meats, milk, and the like. It only took him a few stops before he had what was needed in his house, as well as plenty for dinner that night. It was an entirely normal trip, until something caught his eye, and his mind. A tinge of Reiatsu, and a small splatter on the ground. It was in the middle of a crowd, but he still knelled down to examine it. "Hmmm..." It was rapidly fading away, and he recognized it as the remains of a Hollow immediately. A small one, but the chances of a human accidentally crushing it were slim, yet entirely possible. He thought nothing of it as he continued about his tasks for the day. His level of Reiatsu was far above that of even the highest normal person about them, so Dorian would certainly pick it up were he even partially focusing on it. Keifer made absolutely no effort to mask it, as he saw no need to. Overconfidence, perhaps, but he feared no spiritual entity that may try to attack him. |

Not long after he began to attune himself to the reiatsu around him, he felt someone in the vicinity. A familiar reiatsu, but he couldn't put his finger on exactly who or what it was. He stood from the bench and looked around, there was still no one in sight from where he stood. If there is someone around that I can sense so clearly with them being out of sight, they most certainly will be targeted by hollows. I can't in good conscience let this go without some investigation. He slowly began walking in the direction he had sensed the stronger reiatsu, he got closer, but could tell it was moving. He walked briskly, but not enough to garner unwanted attention, it would look suspicious if someone was running through town seemingly focused on the ground with his face emotionless. "How much further?" He whispered to himself, the strength of signal he was picking up seemed to neither strengthen or wane with his movements now, meaning either he was close or the reiatsu was strong enough to broadcast a decent distance away without loss of quality. He closed his eyes and focused on the reiatsu that he had been tailing, an almost ribbon like trail forming in front of him. He reached his hand out into the stream and could feel that it was of the signal he was looking for. He traveled along the trail, as he got closer, an image began forming in his mind, it was something he had seen before. He turned the corner, to see the source of the power as well as immediately recognizing the image. It was the cross Keifer had on his back the other night. And there stood Keifer, about a yard sticking his hand out to grasp a door handle. He quietly walked over and placed his hand on Keifer's shoulder. "Hey" he said with as much enthusiasm as a winded person could, suddenly another pulse, more violent than the others struck him, sending him to his knees. A feeling of nausea swept over him. |

Keifer had a strange sense of familiarity as he continued about his chores. A hint of reiatsu, but he had brushed it off. A non-Hollow spirit floating around, perhaps. That's what he assumed, until a hand was on his shoulder. He turned, just in time to catch Dorian's exhausted greeting. "What's up?" He was more confused, than anything else. He gave the tired man a quick look over. "...Eh!?" He knelled down, extending a crossed arm to catch his friend. "What's wrong?" Keifer took a quick glance around. There were no benches nearby, but there was an alley that no one tended to use. He dragged Dorian into it, setting him against a wall. He set his bag of groceries on the floor, reaching a hand for Dorian's forehead. "You're not ill, are you?" He began to dig through his backpack, looking for some basic medical supplies he had always carried with him, just in case. Better to have these things if he gets wounded fighting a surprise Hollow, than to not have them. "What's wrong? And why are you here looking like this?" |

"I don't know, all day I've been feeling these weird...pulses." He said, trying to hold down whatever his stomach was holding. "They been random and varying in magnitude, but I have no clue what they are." He leaned his head backwards against the wall he was leaned against. What's happening to me? He didn't bother trying to stand right away, knowing his own body well enough that he lacked the energy to stand right now. "As for why I'm here, I could feel your reiatsu from a few blocks away. I didn't recognize it as yours immediately and I couldn't have let someone who was broadcasting like that just get jumped by hollows." His explanation made sense in his head, although he had no real way of fighting off the hollows himself. "I was supposed to be shopping, but with how I've been feeling all day, I just couldn't let it go ignored." He finally stood, having regained his composure and the nausea subsiding. And started to walk away. "I didn't mean to interrupt your errands. Just wanted to warn you about your reiatsu signal." He stumbled forward and had to sturdy himself with a hand on the wall. He decided to sit a little longer and compose himself a bit more before he tried to venture off. Edited by Fenrir, Jan 3 2013, 01:01 PM.

Keifer gave up on searching his backpack. Anything he had wouldn't help Dorian if this is what was ailing him. "I'll hazard a guess on what you're experiencing..." He pulled out a book, in case he needed something to reference, pulling it open to a bookmarked page. "First off, there's no hiding that you're spiritually aware. You've been seeing these things as long as you can recall, right?" He continued without giving Dorian room to respond. "Something in the recent past seems to have set your awareness into...'Hyper Drive', so to speak..." He skimmed through the open page in his book for a few moments before he continued. "I imagine some combination of the close encounter with the Hollows the other day..." He thought back to the event, it was still clear in his mind, "...Or extended contact with me could always cause it. Either way after watching you...Move, that day, I couldn't help but wonder why..." He closed the book quickly, putting it away. "It seems you have some form of ability to utilize and manipulate Reiryoku. I've only a slight idea what this could mean, but only time will truly tell how this will be fully realized within you." He sealed his bag, standing, and leaning against the wall. "And don't worry about interrupting my errands. I would have dropped them to run to the assistance of someone if they were under attack by a Hollow myself...Preemptively seeking them out can prove to be exhausting and needlessly tedious...Better to fight them as the come." He thought for a moment, before adding. "What did you plan on doing, should a Hollow have showed up?" |

"What would I have done? Wing it, probably..." He laughed a bit, knowing full well there wasn't a thing he would have been able to do against a larger hollow, the only ones he'd ever dispatched himself had been small ones, easily crushed like bugs. "If my spiritual awareness is going haywire, or rather, working so well that it's causing me pain, how do I fix it or calm it?" His composure had come back to him, he stood now, in control of his balance. He started to pace, doing a sort of self check to make sure he would be good for now. "I should be good as long as I stick by you for now, your presence is blocking out any other reiatsu that I could possibly feel due to my proximity to it and the magnitude you are emitting." He shook his head a bit and wiped the sweat from his face with his hands. "On a side note, you would probably do good to try and suppress your spiritual pressure at least a little bit." At least for now, I can hopefully avoid the pulses, but who knows for how long, and how do I fix this? |

Keifer shrugged. "Suppressing it is something I could, and possibly should, do...But I really don't have any big fears of Hollows or other hostile spiritual beings surprising and overpowering me." He thought for a bit on Dorian's initial question, taking a quick glance out of the alley to make sure no one was heading their way. "Well, learning to control one's spiritual energy and awareness isn't unlike learning to utilize a new muscle. You're at least aware of it, and know how to use it to some extent, since you're able to detect the different levels and sources of it..." He thought on it longer, trying to think of how to help the guy. It's so natural to me...These kinds of things are hard to teach others. A small aura of a deep purple energy consumed his hand a moment before fading, as he tried to break the process down in his mind. "Whenever you focus on the Reiatsu around you, don't concentrate solely on what you're feeling, try to think past that, and figure out what parts of your mind are working, and try to control it. Try to calm it. It'll be difficult, maybe even strenuous, at first, but once you start to figure it out, it'll come easier, and become second nature." He chuckled. "You won't be able to hide around me forever, by any means." |

"I've got an idea. Do you have any place in mind that is particularly excluded? For what I'm thinking of we'd need open space." The words came to him slowly as his thoughts were still forming in his mind. But he had an idea and that was better than nothing. "Well as you think, walk with me, I'll explain what I've got in my head." Dorian began at a slow pace, his motor skills still shaky from the day's events so far. But he began out of the alley and down the sidewalk. "As much as I have no clue as to what is really happening to me, it is obvious that it is a result of increased exposure to hollows and quite possibly yourself." He spoke to Keifer, not really knowing if he was following him or not. "So the only thing I can think of is a kind of reiatsu workout, where I expend as much of it as I can, and hopefully the drain will fix whatever is wrong with me." Hopefully anyways, there is no sure thing as far as guesses go. He spun and sat on a nearby bench. "How does that sound?" |
