  • Full Name: Shinnosuke “Shin” Nagami
  • Age: 27
  • Height: 6’3”
  • Weight: 170 lbs
  • Race: Human – High Spec
  • Personality: Shin is, despite appearances and status, a pretty normal guy. He lives his life the way he wants to, and typically does what he wants, within reason. He doesn’t adhere to a higher power, nor is there some underlying evil driving his every deed; He’s just trying to make it in this life, and ideally the next as well, should it come to that. He’s a fan of reading and writing, having put out his own book at this point, and loves sweet and sour things. In fact, he loves anything that could be considered stimulating; Be it something as simple as a surprise party or as extreme as jumping headfirst into a hollow’s mouth. He hasn’t actually done this. He’s dreamed about it, though, and the dream was quite stimulating.

As a result of his upbringing mixed with his day-to-day lifestyle, Shin is a capable blend of both book and street smarts. He is insanely resourceful in a pinch, knowing how to use anything (and anyone, really) to get to where he needs to be. However, on the same note, he has adopted something of a jaded and disdainful mentality towards the world. Mentioned earlier, he doesn’t believe in a God, nor does he adhere to anyone else’s will, believing all things in this world and every other aren’t too different; Everything has faults, and no one is better or more important than anyone else. He plays loose by his rules, let alone anyone else’s, and as a result of such thinking, he doesn’t tend to get along well with authoritative types.

To that end, again, he considers himself something of a ‘common man’, despite being a bit more ‘aware’ than others. He doesn’t like to get involved in other people’s lives, and doesn’t consider things such as the ‘balance of the world’ or any such things important to him. Let the spirits fight, or love, or whatever they want to do; That’s his mentality.

From birth, Shin Nagami lived in Okinawa for a very long duration of his childhood. His birth was, oddly enough, at exactly midnight on a Friday, June the 13th. It was an odd omen, one which from the moment of his birth concerned his entire family, for his mother, who was a rather vibrant, fit, and energetic woman, was weakened considerably from giving childbirth, something which made no medical sense at all to the doctors caring for his. They called it a 'stroke of bad luck'. It was a terrible situation for Shin's mom, made bearable only because of the fact that his father actually resided there, in Okinawa, to begin with. It took a month for Shin's mother to recover from giving birth, but even after he did, he didn't want to risk trying to travel to Karakura, his hometown, in his condition. And thus, he decided to stay in Okinawa and move in with Shin's father's side of their family, if only until he felt well enough to travel alone again.

As a little boy raised in a family of priests and priestesses (something he never really did understand much, seeing as no one in his family was actually of 'noble' blood) Shin was exposed to lots of talk, banter, and influence regarding ghosts, ghouls, oni spirits and more. And just as anyone would have expected (and to his mother's chagrin), he developed a liking towards the idea of an afterlife, and a liking, oddly enough, towards ghosts. From a very, very early age, Shin was capable of seeing and interacting with spirits; Something that took his father and their family until their late teens and 20s to achieve. His first contact with a shinigami came at the age of 10, around which point he indirectly helped to locate a soul which needed to be put through a soul burial. His father saw him as a prodigy, and encouraged him to carry own in the family's tradition of priesthood. His mother encouraged him to get real, and take real-world studies more seriously. Shin was no genius, but he was able to pacify both.

Shin maintained high grades throughout school, while following traditions of his father's side of the family in their pursuit to pay their respects to the dead and see them ferried on to the next life. At different points during his school years, he would invite friends to play at the shrine his family owned. Either due to this, or another small incident in which Shin helped to pacify a demihollow long enough for a shinigami to arrive and purify it, the Nagami Shrine gained popularity. In addition, the family gained equal fame, though Shin's mother and father-- along with the rest of the family-- weren't too thrilled with the attention.
By the time Shin reached highschool, he was offered a contract deal for a tv show revolving around his 'skills with the afterlife'. The show, called "The Fortunesinger", would revolve around Shin's traveling around the city (and eventually the world) in search of 'evil spirits' which he would negotiate the terms of their passing on to the next life with. The producer, naturally, was a blind human who simply sought to milk the idea of a 'prodigy child ghost whisperer' for what it was worth, and Shin, having read well into the contract, made sure there were no huge, inescapable loopholes before ultimately accepting the deal. His mother and father both took it differently; His mother was actually overjoyed that his son was looking into show business and showing an ambitious interest in making a name for himself. His father scoffed at the idea of Shin disgracing the Nagami name by making a mockery of their traditions with the show, but was ultimately pacified again when Shin explained that the money could be used to keep the shrine-- as well as their family-- in good health.

Shin slowly became more 'in control' of his life from there, gaining status in high-school because of his youthful star-like status. He sought out and hung around others--not just in his class, but others in general-- who were capable of interacting with the dead, and formed something of a cult, or gang of spiritually aware associates, who he would often hang out with whenever he grew bored of waiting for a call from his producer, or dealing with his family. That following grew into something of an headless cult, where propaganda and theories regarding the afterlife were brought together and discussed. Eventually, Shin used his money and status to renovate a closed-down bar into a poetry nightclub, called 'Mont Blanc'. He used it, and still currently uses it, as a 'base of operations' for his little flock to discuss such theories and ideals. As of today, his tv show has gained a small, but quickly growing world-wide cult following.

Yet eventually, despite avoiding any real trouble relating to spirits, said trouble found him during some research for one of his show’s episodes. Shin, over a period of a few months, uncovered a plot to unleash an untold number of hollow upon the planet, and with the help of a few friends in the right places (high and low), he was able to thwart it before the danger became too great. Yet in doing so, Shin himself was displaced from his world and time by an ancient magic, and flung into a new world, where the history of everything he’d known had changed drastically. Now he travels the lands, searching for a way to return to his own land, and his own time.
