Rhyme grinned as she walked down the street, and her braces glinted in the sunlight. She was thirteen, and short for her age, but at least she wasn't just skin and bone like she'd been three years ago, after her most recent heart attack. She hadn't had any problems since then, and was now growing healthy and strong. Her wavy red hair was tied in two braids, and her bangs were brushed over her left eyebrow like usual. Her aqua eyes were filled with excitement- her family was all out of the house, and they thought she was practicing after school for debate team. Little did they know she actually planned to come home and bake a cake for her parents anniversary, which was tomorrow. Her navy messenger bag bounced against light blue skinny jeans as she turned the corner onto her street. Her white ballet flats mads barely any noise as she walked up to her house and opened the gate. She closed the gate behind her, and then froze, shocked by what she heard. "I'm sick of this s*** , Anna! 'Just put in a few more hours at work, Jack!' I hear that every time a bill is overdue! Maybe I'm tired. I can't work twenty-fours hours seven days a week, d*** it!" "Jack, stop shouting! I can't work! People look at my medical records and turn me away!" "Not all businesses do that! And guess what? I'm tired of listening to you complain about your feet hurting or how tired you are! You aren't the only one that matters!" "Shut the h3ll up! You don't know what it's like to be so sick, you a**hole!" Rhyme gasped softly. Her parents were screaming at each other, saying rude and hateful things. Jack and Anna were such a perfect couple- until now. Before, when they fought they always ended up laughing. Now, they shouted things at each other you'd say to your worst enemy. The slender girl crept up the front steps and silently opened the front door, hoping that it was just the TV she heard. She snuck around the corner and peeked into the kitchen. Her mother had her arms crossed defensively and her father gestured angrily with his hands. Both's face were red from shouting and anger, and they looked ready to kill each other. She flattened herself against the wall next to the archway that lead into the kitchen, trembling as curse words flew and angry exclamations of hate exploded from the kitchen. How did this happen? Rhyme silently wondered. Her parents had always been so happy, so in love. Rhyme had always dreamed of having a marriage like they had. Rhyme wanted that would love her and protect her, even when her health problems acted up, like her father did for her mother. But now to watch a stable thing in her life that had been so wonderful and perfect crumble… It shook her reality. Had the last thirteen years of her life been a lie? Did her parents only stay together to protect their children? "You know what, Jack?!" It was her mother this time. "No, I don't know what! I can never do anything to please you, so how am I supposed to know!" Her father screamed. There was a moment of silence and Rhyme dared to glance around the corner. She hoped that she would see them hugging and apologizing, but what she saw destroyed her childhood fantasy of having a marriage like her parents. Her mother slid the golden band encrusted with diamond off with shaking hands and slammed it down on the table. "I'll wear it when I'm in love again," she snapped bitterly. Rhyme didn't wait to hear her father's response. She'd heard enough. Rhyme took off running, not caring if the door slammed behind her because her parents wouldn't hear it due to the volume of their fight. Her parents weren't in love anymore, and she didn't know what to do. Edited by thetotalsimsgeek, Aug 22 2014, 11:35 PM.
