((Hi! Looks like you found the backstory of Ethan Markwell. (He's a character I felt was quite two-dimensional, so I got thinking and... tada! This backstory came to be!) Either you clicked on this by mistake or you've decided to listen to my ramblings. No matter how you got here (and how quickly you leave, haha), the fact that you clicked and loaded up this page is encouraging for me as the writer, so thank you. ![]() So if you're still here, let me introduce you to Ethan Falcon Romeo Markwell. He's an absent-minded inventor, the oldest and clumsiest of six children, a genuinely talented artist, someone who always will try a little harder, a goofy but true friend, most likely the only person who could possibly set himself on fire and not notice, an unquestionably (over)protective brother, something of a relationship expert, a good singer, and an all around stand up guy. This story will be narrated by Ethan himself as he admits to his mistakes and brags about his triumphs and laughs about everything in between. It will be told in multiple posts, each one about a different topic. All posts will be started with a heading, informing you what he'll be reminiscing about, and a subheading, a description or a quote from the text. Some will be more serious (such as his parents' marriage troubles), some will be silly (perhaps about the first time he accidentally caught himself on fire), some will be confessions (like getting him to talk about his first kiss), and some will be random (describing what he likes to do when he's sick). Some topics I will come up with myself, but others will be provided by you guys. Have something you want to know about Ethan? PM me with what you'd like to know and he'll be glad to share! (It's not like he has a choice, after all.) You can send a question ("how do you feel about living in Bridgeport?") or a topic statement (Ethan's favorite game) or anything! If I don't answer your question, angrily PM me ("Phineas, what the heck? Why didn't you answer my question? What I wanted to know was (insert topic here), not how Ethan felt about peanut butter and Nutella sandwiches!") or nicely PM me or just PM me and I'll correct my mistake(s). Almost nothing is off the table, but if I feel what your asking may be a little too vulgar or something venturing into spoiler territory, I might ask you to submit another question. I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't want to make anyone uncomfortable or to reveal anything I don't want to be (or my lack of planning on some of my characters... oops...). Okay? Okay! I think this will be fun. ))

A Foreword by Ethan Markwell "...I might not be terribly interesting." In the twenty-one years I’ve been around, I’ve proved I’m as imperfect as the next guy. A little more, even. My name’s Ethan Markwell. Admittedly, I can be a little odd. Sometimes I get lost in my head and tune the world out, sometimes my thoughts come out of my mouth at inopportune moments, and sometimes I am incapable of carrying a conversation and I’ll just blink at the poor person who thought it would be a good idea to speak to me. Being a klutz, I trip over chairs, my own feet, the ground, air- anything, really. I can be so overprotective of my siblings that it's laughable. Throughout my life, I've been known for being awkward, and I assure you, I've never failed to live up to that. I don't understand poetry, politics make my head hurt (I wait for Jay and Rhyme to tell me who to vote for), English class has always found me in the back doodling and not even paying the slightest bit of attention, and I forget to pay the bills on a regular basis. However, I do have my redeeming qualities. I’m something of a talented artist (or I at least I hope I am), and I know a lot about art history, from da Vinci to Bernini to Van Gogh. Even though I appear to lack basic speaking abilities, I suppose I’m not a bad singer and I’m an okay pianist and a pretty good guitar player. Plus, I can play the harmonica, and isn’t that awesome? As I’ve no doubt proven by this point, I am most decidedly human- imperfect, but still trying. I’ve made a few mistakes. I’ve got a few skeletons in my closet. I’ve accidentally set myself on fire more than once. I'm marked with countless bruises from endless tumbles down the stairs. I accidentally got drunk as a teenager when someone spiked my drink. If I haven't made it clear by now, allow me to spell it out: I'm so human it's ridiculous. Despite my shortcomings, or because of them, Rhyme has declared me an interesting person. I debated for a while. Could I believe her? Was she just saying because she believes everyone is interesting? What makes someone interesting? Is it even good to be interesting? I asked myself all of these questions, and more, but ultimately decided I’d write my memoirs, share my stories, even if I wasn’t a genuinely interesting guy. If this is a horrendous mistake… well, I’ll just add it to my list of them. It hasn’t been added to in a while. Plus, it’s good to face your demons or whatever. And I’ve got a couple that could use a punch in the face. To all those that died of boredom while reading this… I did warn you I might not be terribly interesting. Sorry. |
