you're my amaranthine

So, something I'd like some of you to sort out.

This is a song by the king of autotune, T-Pain. He's using a sample from British singer Lily Allen's 'Who'd Have Known' for the chorus, followed by his own unique voice. It's shot up to #1 on UK iTunes, bringing it to my attention, especially since the sampled song, which I wasn't familiar with before, although I enjoy Allen's other work, flopped in at #39 as the 5th single from Allen's 2nd album exactly 2 years ago and there's been a bit of an outcry with this among pop music FANZ, who were similarly traumatised last year with The Time (Dirty Bit) from the Black Eyed Peas, which sampled Dirty Dancing amid autotune and electro hop.

Now, Jaco hates T-Painful as soon as he is within earshot. I wouldn't normally go for him, but there's a way with this song, how the rhythm and feeling of the song allows me to enjoy it beyond T-Pain's vocals. (They aren't that bad, for my money, just very unique)

So my question is, can you overlook it in order to enjoy this song (and through proxy, others like it, and general discussion via autotune following, whether it's ruining the music industry etc.)? Take it away. Poll includeth pony option as should be the norm, should you not be able to decide. :rarity:

I can't help liking T-Pain ever since his stint with The Lonely Island.

I'M ON A BOAT!

I'm also quite a Lonely Island fan, but I can't remember what he does in that song tbh, I'm too distracted by their class shouting rapping.

Awful. Absolutely awful. Lily Allen's just singing - rather nicely at that-, and we just hear a horrible screetching sound on top that's supposed to pass for 'vocals'. I can live with light autotune -although I much prefer it without vocal editing... or at least if it is edited, for the love of God, make it SUBTLE. When he's not actually singing (or if he is, he might as well not be), it gets ridiculous. This is why I don't go for most of the Black Eyed Peas stuff with a few exceptions (I've gotta Feeling - because it's got such a good tune, and "Just Can't Get Enough". Maybe one or two others - this is Will.I.Am's fault by the way- Fergie's great :) ) and similar 'artists' because this "sound" just ruins it.

So a definite YES from me, although I was temped by the pony option.

Added: But yes, I agree, the Lonely Island thing does make it forgiveable. If it's comedy, I can listen to it  .
"I'M ON A MOTHERF***ING BOAT!!"

He just hovers around autotuning, being the perfect drama king to make a mockery of songs that song "Epic". The only line I can remember is "AAAAIIIEEEE'M ONNA BOOOAAAT!" or something like that
Lonely Island are a lot better though. ;)

ETA2: Congrats on your 200th post! Just one more until 700 for me. :D

No hate against T-Pain, but others! I hate that Auto-tune thing! And New Skool music! No quality, shitty lyrics, rappers are just actors never have done a thing in their lifes. Especially Lil Wayne and Drake, I hate them the most.
Old Skool FTW!

^I like a mixture. Hate the autotune thing and even more than that- heavy metal. Can stand Lil' Wayne and Drake etc, but I often like rap a lot (Eminem, Tinie Tempah, Plan B, and a few others.) I love music by Owl City, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Christina Perri and LOADS of other new artists, but as a contrast, I love Fleetwood Mac, "Fairytale of New York" -The Pogues ('87) - I mention this because it's Christmas  -, some of the music by "The Eagles", and lots of 90's music- Oasis, Blur and Tasmin Archer.

I suppose I'm just saying that not all "New Skool" music is that bad. You just have to look for the good stuff, and not necessarily just what you hear on the radio. (Although a good amount of radio - at least 40/50%, is good quality music anyway.)

If you let me, let me, here's what I'll do, I'll take care of you...

I like Drake, sometimes when he's with Rihanna. Lil Wayne is weird.

Good music is out there though, and it can be found through autotune. I just take every track as I come.

ALSO! LOVE JAKEY'S OUTRAGE! Luv ya too, bro. :lyra:

Only new music what I listen is by Ice Cube, MC Ren (If he counts cuz last songs where in 2009), WC, Chuck D and BG Knocc Out (Especially BG Knocc Out) and soon will add Dr. Dre to the list whenever Detox drops.
This is all for New songs, but all these are Old Skool artists anyway.
Never heard of Tinie Tempah and Plan B

Well I don't even know anymore what songs are popular now anyway haven't bothered to listen to them lol, just listening to artists I know and know they are making (Or to be more precise: made) good music.
I just have higher standards in Rap music what I like than you.

I picked the third option because I like voting for stuff but I don't really have an opinion about this. Or maybe it's just 1:35 AM and I can't be bothered to read stuff.
