Time - Unknown

Location - Forest

“Wahoo!” I yell out of breath as I jump from tree to tree. The crisp humid air greets my nose with and icy blast as the wind whips across my skin. I jump barefoot from tree to tree in my new “primordial” clothing. I had no shoes on and was jumping barefoot, black Levi jeans with the bottoms cut up from the constant running against the bark I did, a black hooded jacket with the hood masking my face from the world and giving me a grim reaper like demeanor and sleeves rolled up, my jacket was left unzipped and had no shirt underneath it and left my chest vividly seen. Might as well call me the Grim Reaper of the forest. Ever since I got to shore after the cruise crash I have taken a more wild side with my clothing, demeanor, and attitude. I was no longer the mentally insane person everyone knew me as, I felt more calm and in tune with nature. Needless to say my brash and arrogant attitude was still very prominent. I jump off one tree and reach up to which I grab an overhanging branch and use my momentum to swing myself up higher in the trees.
“Phew this will do it!” I laugh contempt as I plop in a thicket of branches cradled together densely in the tall thick tree to rest. The forest felt most alive here, I felt at peace as if I had no care in the world.

“Wonder how everyone else is doing?” I wonder to myself as I sharpen my axe with my knife. I never really got time alone to myself other than when I was out and about. But for now I didn't care, this was my time, and I was gonna do he best I could with it.“I was supposed to do something……” I think to myself when it hit me.

"Meh fuck it." I laugh sitting in the clump arms out stretched and feeling happy. This forest wasn't as dangerous as most thought, especially from the safety of the trees. I soon drift off from the exhaustion of my training into a deep and vivid dream.... or as it a nightmare?

Some time later…… I am awoken by the sound of ominous howling…. or so I thought I was

I scramble up to my feet as my head darts left and right trying to find the source of the noise. For some reason the howling sounded like it was beckoning me, as if it was trying to call my name, but I quickly blow the thought of that to me just waking up too fast. I glance left and right at the forest floor scanning for any movement but so far found only the rustling of the bushes in the wind and the sun slowly dipping behind the horizon. The lighting was beautiful as it was scattered through the leaves overhead and gave the impression it was barraging the ground in a frenzy of bullets as it dotted the area. I noticed that the air suddenly got chilly as I began to see the water vapor being exhaled from my mouth. I shiver a little but then regain my composure. What the hell was going on? That question rang through my mind like Christmas tree lights.

“There are wolves on this island?” I murmur as I jump out the thick clump of branches I was nestled in and descend from the trees. I hit the ground with a thud as I roll and recover back to my feet glancing around with my right hand on the hilt of my tomahawk ready to unsheathe it. I don’t know why I jumped out of the tree, it was just instinctive, I always liked to challenge myself and I was no stranger to battling some canines. I glance around in a crouching stance ready to intercept anything that my suddenly lunge at me. My ears seemed to pick up every sound; my eyes attacked the slightest movement around me even though there area of view was obstructed by my shadowy hood. My body tensed ready to drive my axe into the skull of whatever came. The howling got louder and louder as they got closer and closer. Suddenly something hit my ears that made the hair on my neck stand.
“Black Ice….. we are coming for you…” The entity said in a sing songy voice. I spin around flawlessly and throw my axe dead in the direction I could have sworn I heard the noise. My axe spiraled as it whistled rapidly through the air like a razor blade before embedding itself deep into the bark of the tree I jumped out of earlier. I quick as a flash blitz towards my axe ripping it out the tree as I run up the trunk and grab an overhanging branch and dangle from it with one hand like a monkey.

“What the hell is this?” I mumble still raping the landscape with my eyes trying to find out where the howling is coming from when suddenly my left arm starts burning fiercely. In sudden pain I release my grip from the branch I was dangling from and plummet several feet into the ground landing flat on my back. My body wrenches from the pain as I glance at my burning arm. My tribal tattoo looked as if it were morphing. The swirls got more jagged and sharp angled and the black ink got even darker. I squirm viciously as I scream in agony. What the hell was going on? Then as quick as it came the burning stopped and I suddenly felt rejuvenated. I scramble back to my feet and look at my left forearm; it looked like it was burned moderately. I unroll my left jacket sleeve and cover it up. I couldn’t show anyone else this; I didn’t want anyone to worry about it. I glance around again when I hear the ominous howling and the sing songy voice yet again.

“You have your spirit animals mark, now for your first taste. Your friends are in danger Black Ice, what will you do to save them? Will you call upon your gift from us?" The voice said again. I Look up and around again. Danger? Gift? Mark? Spirit animal? What The hell was going on?

“Who are you!?” I yell grabbing the hilt of my axe yet again. Then the howling appears again as a misty film starts to settle in the air. I now, slightly intimidated look as best I can through the mist. And that’s when it surprised me. My eye sight, was enhanced. I saw clearly through the mist.
“This just keeps getting weirder and weirder!” I growl right as something catches my eye. I freeze in my tracks as a tall beastly looking creature that I have never seen before emerges from the mist. The beast walked hunched over in a bipedal stance. Its head was large with a deep and robust snout. Its canines protruded slightly from the roof of its muzzle when its jaws were closed. It glared at me with yellow eyes with black slitted pupils. And it had the body of a cross between a dog and a human in morphology, bipedal stance, elongated hind limbs and ankles, robust flexible forequarters with blunted claws on each hand and blunt claws on the hind legs for traction, jet black fur covering its entire head, running down the back and torso as well as on each limb. The rest was a black hairless naked type skin.

“A werewolf???” I look in horror as the beast suddenly with lightning speed charges at me. I fall backwards and shield my face. Everything went black…..

And then I woke up

I jump to my feet in a flash sweating and panting from the clump of branches in which I slept in. In confusion I stare at my hands and the ground. There was no mist, no howling, no anything.

“What the fuck didn’t I already wake up?!?” I pant to myself as I drop to my hands and knees still scared out of my mind. “Was it really all a dream?” I think silently to myself looking at my left arm when I freeze solid. Before I went to sleep I remember both my sleeves were rolled up to my elbows, but as I stare back at my arm my jacket sleeve was rolled down over my forearm . I tremble as I reach over and slowly pull up my sleeve just to my elbow. What I saw almost made me piss myself. My tribal tattoo… still had the morphed and jagged appearance as it took on in my dream and the skin was still red from the burning sensation that happened earlier. The burning in my dream wasn’t just a illusion in my mind, it really happened…… My eyes widen in amazement before I speak to myself in a raspy voice.

“Was this a dream or not?” I talk to myself before getting up and rolling my sleeve back over my left arm. I had to pull myself together before I headed back to camp. I was well known for being the head strong bastard that feared nothing and was a maniac at heart, and I didn’t want to look scared and traumatized in front of everyone and become the complete opposite of what I normally am, I didn’t want to seem weak. I muster back up my arrogant confidence and dash through the forest floor back to camp with the speed and stamina of a wolf. I was surprised by how fast I was running on the ground and how long I kept it up. It’s as if my physical being had drastically upgraded my limits. I dive over fallen trees, spin around bushes and rocks and leap in and out of the trees as I blitz storm my way back to the camp. I felt so alive! And wild……
as I got closer to the to the main camp I stopped abruptly and fell face forward into the dirt, I was running extremely fast and stopped on a dime, what else would happen other than me running my face into the ground from the momentum? I quickly regain my stance and listen intently. I was several hundred feet from the camp and yet, I could hear screaming and shouting as clear as day.

“Something happened?” I murmur as I dig my fingers into the ground still crouching before taking off again, this time running even faster. I ravaged the ground underneath me as I ran like a mad man, where was I getting this sudden increase in abilities from? I didn’t care, I liked it. I covered several hundred feet in about 5 minutes before I arrived at the camp. What I saw shocked me more than my dream experience. A monstrous sized Elk was ravaging the camp and charging at everything in sight. The sounds of screaming were everywhere as I glanced around the chaos ridden grounds. I saw Fishfreak and Superpredator hiding behind a large rock, Wyvax and Theropod were running frantically trying to get everyone out of harms way. Sectotl was being a usual maniac and ranting about how the deer came to rip out his organs. I run over to Wyvax and begin to speak.
“What the hell is going on?” I ask, my hood shrouding my face from Wyvaxes watchful eyes. He grasped his leg and forced himself to stand up. You could tell he was exhausted.

“An…..A… Irish….extinct……attacked……Evacuate….. Phew!” He was gasping severely.
“An extinct Irishman attacked the camp?” I laugh in confusion before suddenly receiving and abrupt smack to the head. I growl and spin around to see a injured fishfreak panting.

“Where the hell have you been?” He gasped before looking at my wild clothing. My hood still shrouding my face and chest still showing through my unzipped black jacket.

"You ok?" He asked glaring at my chest showing through my unzipped jacket before turning away creeped out.

He laughed before he got serious again. “That’s an Irish Elk. I don’t know but it seems we spooked it and he’s panicking!” He finished.

“Aren’t those extinct?” I look in surprise at the beast rampaging several yards away. I glance out the corner of my eye at Wyvax. Concern gripped his eyes as he stared at me through the shadow of my hood an managed to glimpse at my eyes. What he saw gave him chills.

"Black Ice? Your eyes... they are slitted like a cats!" He gasped.

"What?" I mumble to myself as I look at Fishfreak. He soon glances under my hood and has the same expression as wyvax.

"Black Ice? What happened to you?" He said before we heard a bellowing and looked in the same direction. The Elk suddenly dashes towards us.

“Attack!” A voice rang through my head and without even knowing I dash head first at the charging 1000lb beasts tomahawk in hand. I could have sworn I heard FF and Wyvax yell something along the lines of "Are you insane?", but I didn’t hear it. It was me vs the beast.

The Bull Elk lowers its head to bulldoze me over. In a natural and unexplainable instant my mind forced me into combining my parkour with my enhanced speed and the momentum of me running to vault clean over the beasts lowered head. However I came up short and landed on the butt of the elk before hitting the ground with a thud. I scramble back to my feet seemingly unhurt.

“How did I do that??!!” I look in amazement I was now behind the Elk. But it wasn’t over; the animal continued to run at Wyvax and FF. “This is bad.” I thought to myself I bolted after the elk. I seemed to enjoy the thrill of this battle.

“MOVE!” I bark through the chaos as I run looking at my tired friends. Wyvax acts in a split second and shoves FF clean out the way before rolling to the right just barely dodging the elks initial charge but he did receive a nasty stab in his left arm from one of the giant antlers. Before he could recover wyvax sees me zip clean past him.

“How did he get here so fast?” My heightened hearing caught the words whispered through his lips despite all the commotion. I soon catch up to the still charging elk and like a cougar I leap onto its side digging my tomahawk in its flank to keep a grip. The elk lets out a deep bellow before it starts wrenching in pain and trying to buck me off. Still keeping my axe firmly embedded in the flank of the elk I plant my feet as good as I can on the elks stomach and with my free hand take my combat knife from my pants belt loop and repeatedly stab the elk. I accomplished nothing but shallow puncture wounds. Its hide was too tough for significant damage to be done with a measly knife. The elk rises on its back legs and gravity tore my me and my axe from the elks body leaving a huge gash on its back leg. I struggle back to my feet and square off with the elk. The beast dashes towards the center of the camp. I knew it wasn’t trying to hurt anyone and was just scared, but something in me wanted to hunt it.

“No you don’t!” I snarl as I once again take off running. To my surprise The elk spins around and looks at me. Still running I gasp under my breath as I saw the elk once again rise onto its back legs to trample me. I couldn’t stop, I was gonna run into it.

“Shit!” I yell as I jump into the air tomahawk in hand and embed my axe into the beasts thick tree trunk neck. Blood gushed out into my face as the beast flailed wildly. Next thing I knew I was in the air. The beast flailing disloged my grip from my axe and threw me several feet away into a nearby tent filled with firewood and other hard materials. Everybody suddenly stopped running and was watching me take on a 1000lb monster solo. I struggle back to my feet and glare around. My vision got hazy and there was a ringing in my ears. I raise my hand to my forehead and feel a warm liquid substance run down my face. I was bleeding moderately. I take a step forward but suddenly wound up on my knees. My head hurt, my bones ached, and my body couldn’t take much more. Then the sing songy voice rang in my head again.

“Attack it! Kill the beast! This is your test!” the voice said. I stand back up and stare at the elk. My tomahawk was still embedded in its neck and the animal was fading away just like me fast. I heard Superpredator yelling.

“Black Ice STAY DOWN!” He cried out. His sentence was followed in unision by everyone else at the camp.

“BLACK ICE PLEASE DON’T GET BACK UP!” Wyvax yelled running over to me. FF was just shocked at the fact I was still standing after being thrown like toilet paper by a Irish Elk.

“FIGHT! ATTACK! PROVE YOUR WORTH!” The voice danced in my head like a musical verse. My body had reached its limits, even my unknown gotten enhanced abilities weren’t enough. The elk was just too big and too powerful. I only weigh 170lbs; yet I was tackling a beast that weighed well over a thousand. I knew I had no chance. I drop back to my knees as the elk violently spun back and forth bucking and kicking several people as it was slowly dying. I stand back up barely.

“Black Ice stay down!” Wyvax said catching me as I fell back down. I look at him from the cover of my black hooded jacket, it still masking my expressionless face from the world.

“Gotta….. get my axe back.” I chuckle getting back up to my feet. My vision getting more hazy by the second, did I suffer from a concussion? My train of thought is suddenly stopped by the voice of Fishfreak.

“Are you serious?” FF yelled as he ran over. I pushed both of them off and took out my knife. The elk was slowly dying, but I intended to finish it off.
“Attack my beast!” The voice rang again. I darted at the beast.

“BLACK ICE NO!” FF yelled as he looked in horror. I was about to kill myself.
The beast with a last ditch effort tried to rise on its hind legs again. I get within 4 feet of the beast and then jump higher than any regular man could. What was I turning into? Everything went silent. The screaming, the panicking, the flickering of the fire, even my own train of thought, as I jumped the beast rose up ready to kick me dead in the skull. I plant my feet on its torso before using my momentum of the run and jump, and my axe as a grappling point to launch myself up the front of the nearly perpendicular to the ground elk like I was climbing a tree. I grab the beasts nose and roof of its opened mouth with one hand before raising my knife high in the air with my right hand….. what I did next shocked even myself…..

“DIE!” I screech as I drive my knife into the eye socket of the elk. Blood gushed from its braincase and covered my hands and right arm. With one last bellow the mighty elk died and fell backwards bringing me with it. As it hits the ground you could hear its neck snap like a twig and its antlers snap into pieces as it hit the hard ground. I got launched over it flew dead center into a pile of pots and pans scavenged from the cruise ship. I hit with a clang. I cough several times still bleeding as I glance up at the fallen beast. There was no noise, no yelling, no clapping, nothing. Everyone just looked at me, some with shock, others with amazement. Wyvax couldn’t believe his eyes….. Last thing I remember was Fishfreak running towards me yelling for everyone to help. And then saying something about my eyes.

"They aren't slitted and feral looking anymore....." I saw Wyvax mouth the words out before my eyes closed and began to drift.

“Are….. you fucking happy now?” I force those words out before I fall unconscious.

“What the hell am I?” I think to myself as I drift into slumber.

To be continued………………………………………

EPIC TRANSITION BETWEEN HAPPY AND SAD!!!!!!
Yep I'm crosswired. ^_^

It was a shallow stab. Nothing to cripple you.

That doesn't make it any less painful... :'( Seriously though, it makes for a good plot point. Kudos to you.

black ice still needs to edit this, the Irish elk suddenly appearing at the camp when it really should be at the beach is a big continuity problem, maybe fishfreak, you can change where you meet the elk instead?

I think it'd be best if it were BI, I made a big deal of it in both my chapters, because it also ties in with Coherentsheaf's burial and my dream.

The beach is roughly a kilometre from the camp. That's not far. I was even farther from the camp than you were.
