Time - Somewhere around noon, Day 2 of the Expedition Setting - ![]() I swallow hard at the sight before me while Paul and Soren grab Zane and run back into the forest in fear. Right before my eyes was a legend, a beast long thought extinct running full speed from its hiding spot chasing a larger than life bison. Its bulky frame being propelled through the short grass by its massive muscular legs as it lets out a bone chilling roar. Its saber teeth bared proudly in a wide open gape. I look in amazement at the large feline only a few meters from me as it chased its prey. Only one thought ran through my mind as Paul ran back and grabbed my arm yanking me back into the forest. "Was that really a Saber-Toothed Tiger?!" The thought runs through my mind as I stumble and fall backwards onto a running Paul as he held my hand still. We both topple over into the forest where I flawlessely roll back onto my feet while Paul gets a face full of dirt. I am still in shock at what I just saw. "WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST SEE?!" Soren yells out in a frantic as he grabs his head freaking out. Zane walks over to me while Paul rushes over to calm Soren. Me and Zane exchange glances before I toss back on my hood and cover my expression from him before taking charge and speaking. "What you saw Soren was no joke, it was a Smilodon, by the size of it it looks like a Fatalis." I speak calmly, I could be wrong though as I never really cared for felines as they weren't my piece of interest. "For all we know it could've been a S.Populator, the biggest and baddest one." I continue as I look back in the direction of the plains, I could still see the grassland area through the trees and branches. I look over to Paul who is still comforting Soren and trying to calm himself down. "We aren't going out there are we?!" Soren speaks in a low hoarse tone as he choked out the words. A warm wind blows from the prairie and greets us in the forest with a welcoming tone as if it were beckoning us to come back. I inhale deeply and then prepare to speak. "Yes we are. If you have forgotten we are on a mission to document all interesting things we find. So stop complaining." I finish my sentence as I turn towards the prairie again prepared to walk back out. Suddenly Paul speaks out. "Drake we can't hide in a prairie, it's too open a biome, and none of us even all together can take on a pack of Smilodon or wolves or god knows what else lies out there, I think we should end the expedition here and return to camp, mapping out this Island isn't worth getting killed by a 1,000 lb cat." Paul finishes as he helps Soren to his feet. Soren speaks in agreement. "Yea I'm done, I knew this was a bad idea. I'm heading back with Paul." He speaks not looking me in the eye. I glance over to Zane, he looks at me and shrugs. "I'm not going anywhere Drake, things just got interesting." He laughs stretching and yawning. I chuckle before looking back at Paul and Soren in disgust. "What should I do? I could beat the shit outta them both for being such pansies, but then I would have to escort them back as they would be too messed up to walk.... I could let them go back on their own... But...." I ponder heavily over my next course of action while everything remains silent. I glance back at Zero, then at the two sissies. I finally come to a course of action. "You want to go back, fine. Be my guest." I shrug dusting off my bare chest and black pants before motioning Zane to follow me back to the grasslands. He nods and then casually waves to Paul and Soren. "Have fun guys." Zane says quietly as he follows behind me. Soren suddenly gets agitated at our decision. "You can't just leave us! You are responsible for this expedition! You will be in serious trouble for abandoning us and we wound up getting killed!" Soren yells as he runs in front of me and Zane. He stops in front of me as if he expected me to stop and debate with him. "Move." I growl mashing his face in with my palm and shoving him into the ground. I continue walking towards the prarie. He gets back up full of rage. "You don't own us! You can't make us do what YOU want! I demand we go back!." Paul suddenly joins in running over to Soren. I stop him in his tracks grabbing him in an unexpected arm lock. He winces in pain as I whisper in his ear. "I'm not ordering you to follow me, remember what I said? As long as you follow what I tell you, you will live." I finish throwing him on top of Soren who tried standing up. They both fall back down onto the ground covered in dead leaves and branches. "I told Walter i would protect you if you did what I said, I never said anything about returning you alive regardless." I finish speaking as a flashback of me and Walters final words runs through my mind. "Black ice, I'm putting this expedition in your hands, don't let anyone get killed ok?" Wyvax says solemnly. I roll my eyes and glance at Rashido I snap back into reality. "I never promised you or Walter that you would make it back, however I did tell you I would protect you if you followed my orders. So go, it's not my fault if the beasts of this Island claim you. You just saw a Smilodon in the prairie, who knows what lurks in the forests? Titanaboas or Large than life Bears?" I finally finish before waiting for Pauls reply. A long silence ensued as more wind whistled through the forest in a calm melody while the daylight got even brighter as we drew later into the day. Zane seems impressed at my shrewdness when it came to word play. Soren gets up and dusts himself off. "Very well, I'll come with you. But if I die I will never forgive you." He mumbles picking up his weapons. I laugh aloud before replying. "Bitch weren't you the one that said when you die you are erased from existence? So in all honesty why should I give even the slightest fuck about you forgiving me or not?" I laugh thumping him hard in the head before yanking paul onto his feet and shoving him and Soren to the grasslands. "Lets go bitches." I laugh as we head back out into the open biome. Soon enough we are back where we started when I first saw the Smilodon chasing the bison. I glance around my hood shielding my eyes from the bright sun. "No sabertooths as far as I can tell, good." i think to myself before pulling the map and journal out of Pauls bag and slapping them into his chest. "Map it down and record what we saw." i speak not looking at him but still glancing in every direction for danger. I look over to Zane as he speaks. "It's not as hot as I thought it would be." he laughs putting on his shades before walking ahead with his katana in his right hand in a reverse grip. My keen eyesight caught glimpse of the bladed edge as it reflected light blindingly, the blade itself was rusted and had several holes dotting the length of it. It obviously wasn't in peak condition. nevertheless it looked like an efficient weapon. Zane scours the prarie before catching something moving in the grass. He points in its direction. "What in oblivion is that?" He says in a low tone as I aim my gaze along with Soren and Paul to the direction of Zanes finger. Soon enough I spotted it too. A large figure rustling through the grass under another object. "i don't know." I speak squinting my eyes towards the figure. I motion for my group to stay put while I crouch low to the ground and begin sneaking up to the object with my tomahawk in my right hand and knife in the other like a native human predator. The object looked about 30 meters away. I calcuate the distance in my head. "98ft, not to far." I mumble as I inched meters and meters closer.Sooner than later I was only a few meters from the object. I duck behind a rock and peek over the top to get a better view. What I saw made my heart skip a beat. It was that Smildon we had seen chasing the bison earlier. The pantherine wrenched of a large chunk of flesh from the bone of the dead animal as it swallowed it whole and repeated the process several more times. The sounds of fat falling, meat grinding, and blood dripping greeted my ears. I shudder at the noises before ducking back behind the rock. It hadn't noticed me yet. I ponder over whether I should bolt back to the others, I had a feeling with my new speed I could perhaps our run the pantherine should i get a far enough head start, but then what would I do once it chased me back to others? I think over the possibilities before my thinking is interrupted by a loud growl followed by a series of barks. "Wolves?!" I frantically mumble as I peek back over to view what was happening. To my surprise I saw a once in a lifetime event. A pack of 15+ larger than expected black wolves encircled the sabertooth as they growled, barked and snarled at the large cat. The feline lets out a bone shivering roar as it mock swipes at two wolves in front of it. The black muggers leaped back as several more ran at the cat from behind and took turns nipping at it. Everytime they bit its hind area the cat would swirl around and swipe at them. It managed to tag a few wolves with its large paws and claws as they played hit and run and even managed to kill 2 to 3 of them. I continue looking in amazement. "I never thought I'd see the day...." I suddenly stop my trail of thought, now was my time to bolt, while the predators were occupied over the carcass. I dash from behind the rock with the speed of a tempest as i leave the animals to their fate. Soon enough i return to my group panting heavily. Zane runs over towards me. "Well what did you see?!" He said as Paul and Soren rushed over to me. I grab Paul by the collar of his jacket. "Mark down wolves in the prairie and bgiant bison. I just saw a pack of wolves trying to take a kill from the saber tooth we saw earlier." I speak as I finished catching my breath. Pauls eyes lit up like fireflies. "REALLY? How many were there of the wolves? What color were they? How big was the bison? were they already fighting or did they arrive when you were there? Were there any casualties?" He barraged with me questions. Initially I got ready to slap the taste out of his mouth for annoying me but instead I did something that surprised even me. "Around 15 wolves, all were some shade of black, Bison looked like a female, the wolves attacked after I arrived, 2-3 wolves were killed. I don't know the rest as i ran back over here." i finish answering his questions as I sheathed my tomahawk and dagger. Paul surprised I answered his questions patted me on the shoulder in a thanking gesture as he began to write a detailed report in his journal. Soren takes a long drink from his canteen as the wind blows over the grasslands. "Where to now Drake?" Soren speaks wiping water from his mouth. "We are headed over to those beaches with the sand bars." I spoke pointing downwind towards the beach, there were sandbars that led all the way from here to another island off in the distance. Zane whistles in amazement at the view. 'How long do you think it will take? And when will we be returning to camp?" He asks looking at me. I take out my bottle of water and take a long gulp before replying. "It will take a almost a week to traverse this area if we do it safely. It'll maybe take a few days if we move recklessely and non stop. Which do you prefer?" "Safely." Paul immediately replies. "Safely." Soren copies. "Safely." Zane laughs. "Then it's settled. We start walking immediately, the beach looks several miles away from here. be ready for anything." I laugh as I strap my bag back onto my and lead the group off into the grasslands, away from the cat and wolves of course. The real adventure begins now..... To be continued............................ Edited by Black Ice, Nov 3 2013, 04:25 PM.

Makes the island seem kinda small like everything else but I was imaging it atl least taking like a week or two to get from one side to the other of the island, |

Was also referring to the short time it took to get to the grass lands but whatever not a huge deal don't think we established exactly were we crashed so I'll pretend we crashed fairly close lol |

If you saw the map rashido made the forest by our camp is not very big. Even so it still took a day and a half of non stop walking basically. Edited by Black Ice, Nov 3 2013, 02:16 PM.

Yep notice how we are only around the inside edge of the forest near the grassland route I took. Shouldn't take more than a day n a half to exit the forest. |

Im the one that edited in the camps and that wasn't suppose to be were we are now just were we end up. That being said I think your idea works better. Was also thinking that the island you plan on walking to could actually be the peninsula where the fishing town is going to be, it could with his approval of course be roughly where VD crashed just because from roughly where your at on the plains that would look like an island based on your time table it would take more than a week to walk to the "ape men" island. Again I'm just spit balling ideas and but I think your version of where we are at would work perfect |
