"Girls... You really don't have to do this," began Duke again for what seemed to be the trillionth time, "There are many wonderful colleges and universities among the magical realms!" Magdelene sighed and mentally added another tally to the list in her head. She had begun to count the times he did this, and according to her list it was in the high eighties, "Duke, calm down. We'll be fine. We're only going to be a phone call or text away at least, and a teleport away in case something bad truly does happen." "But Earth is full of humans!" interjected Duke, tired eyes slightly widened with fear, "Humans without magic! That me-" "No magic, no speaking about magic, no dreamings of magic, no utterances, gasps, breaths, or even quivers of magic," finished Magdelene, "We'll be FINE. Just relax!" "Magdelene, Serenity... Just because the magical realms have enemies who know who you are doesn't mean that you have to go all the way to a magicless planet for schooling! Just because it might be saf-" "Duke, you're always warning us to be on our guard, to watch out, to always be near each other... And now you're trying to tell us... well, tear more like, but you're trying to make us stay when you know for a fact that we'd be several times safer on Earth, a place that you haven't neglected to mention is quite magicless?" Magdelene sighed, "Just calm down. We'll be fine!" |

Serena continued packing up her belongings, deciding to stay out of the bickering that seemed to fill the room. Duke, having ultimately given up on convincing Magdelene, set his sights on convincing her. "Serenity, you know how dangerous Earth can be. Just because there's no magic doesn't mean that there isn't an equal likelihood of danger. Imagine what would happen if your enemies found out that you were all stuck on a magicless planet with no protection?" Serena sighed and looked up from her box. "Would you stop worrying? We did live on Earth for quite some time plus nobody would suspect that we would be going to universities on Earth so we'll be more than safe. And I think I speak for each of us when I say that we're more than capable of protecting ourselves as you well know," She said, causing the memories of the last six years to flood back. The light went out of Duke's eyes for a split second but he was far from finished with his lecture, "I'm not implying that you aren't capable of taking care of yourselves but I would feel better about it if you went to universities of greater prestige in a magical realm where you'll be free to use your powers as much as you all like instead of common universities with normal people. I can't imagine any of you not using your powers for four years.." "Well not being treated as princesses for once would be nice. If we went to universities in any magical realm, people would know who we were and act differently around us just because we're princesses. And on the contrary I think we'll be more than able to not use our powers for 4 years, we lived without them for the first 12 years of our lives so another 4 won't kill us", Serena stated with obvious disdain of the prospect of any sort of special treatment. "Now be reasonable. You're princesses and-" "As such, we have certain responsibilities and duties to perform," Serena interjected, finishing the statement she had heard for years. "I'm just saying that it would be nice to be able to put down the crown for a little while and not have to worry about enemies, fighting or ruling. We had to grow up so soon in order to rule Celestia and the rest of the system, so it would be nice to be teenagers, at least for a little while." |

"If we keep on being surrounded by people who near worship us - and since Celestia is amazing and we ARE princesses of it, there will be no way in the systems that we'd have a 'normal' magical education there... Heh, kinda an oxymoron, 'normal magical'... but anyways, we're going to end up forgetting how to be somewhat normal and down-to-Earth if we keep on being treated differently," pointed out Magdelene, "If we lose our down-to-Earth qualities, we run the risk of being just another Monarchy with Holier-Than-Thou rulers." "Even so," considered Duke, "What if somebody realizes who you are and tries to attack you? You're all going to different universities and won't be able to help one another!" "Duke... If one of us sneezes, we'll all know. It'll be FINE!" |

As Magedelene finished speaking, a trail of six suitcases floated into the room, one after the other, before settling in the middle of the room. The three people arguing there stared dumbdounded at the pile before them as the suitcases began to fold in on themselves until they were the size of a finger nail. Kary walked into the room, all eyes turning to her, understanding filling them. "What's going on?" She asked, sensing the sudden tension that was surrounding her. "There," Duke exclaimed, triumph filling his tone and making him stand just a little taller. "Kary can't live without magic for more than two seconds. She used it on Earth before she even knew what she was and she will not be able to stop using it." "Technically back then it was just telekenisis and mind reading," Kary said, feeling the need to clarify. "And even if I do use it, I'll be careful. No one ever saw me move things around before and it won't happen now." "Don't you want to stay, Kary?" Duke said in a soft, tempting voice. He was obviously trying a different tactic with her. "You love it here, Kar, you always have. You love the power and the special treatment and even the fighting! You have no reason to want to go be normal."He said the word as if it were a curse. Kary smiled, looking toward her sisters for help. Duke was right about everything. She did love it all. One look at the hidden room behind her closet and that much was obvious. The place was filled with different types of weaponry and spellbooks that she was always eager to use. Still, she wanted to be normal. As normal as she could be without giving up using magic. Duke had been right about that too. There was no way Kary could ever give up using her powers. They were a part of her in a way her sisters couldn't relate to. Seeing Serena's and Magedelene's apologetic faces, she saw she wasn't going to get any help from them. She had come in and taken the attention away from them, after all. "Kei!!!" she called for her twin brother. What's up? He asked her mentally. Are you done packing? Come downstairs. Kei didn't even bother taking the stairs. He teleported into the living room, apearing right behind Duke. Duke, sensing this, turned around and gave him a disapproving look. Serena and Magdelene did the same. No one approved of how Kary and Kei used magic for absolutely everything. "He won't be able to give it up either!" Duke yelled, exasperated. "He will," Serena countered. "He's only known about magic for two years. He can go back to normality." No I won't, Kei sighed internally. But he wasn't about to spark another debate about another subject, especially against Serena. After the trouble he had put her through during the past years what with finding out they were more than just adoptive siblings and the fact that he and Kary were not only prophesized to kill each other but also that they had been angel twins in a past life, he did not want to put her through more. But Kary had no reservations. "No he won't. He will, however, be careful. Just like I will. Just like you will too because I know you'll slip up. We're no human. We have magic. We have a right to use it wherever we are. And you," she turned to Duke, "just relax. We'll be fine. I promise. And don't bother saying anything else. It won't work. We're going and that's that." Duke sighed and muttered something unintelligable under his breath before nodding silently, defeated. Kary couldn't help but feel bad for the aging man who had become family to her. She knew this argument was about more than just where they went to college. This had more to do with the fact that he didn't want to lose them, not again. Kei put his hand to rest on Kary's shoulder, a silent understading passing between them. A quick look to Serena and Magdelene said they, too, were thinking the same thing, and they all rushed toward Duke, engulfing him in a hug. |

As everyone stepped back, Serena smiled and gave Duke's hand a light squeeze while tenderly saying, "Don't worry Duke, we aren't little girls anymore. You have to trust that you taught us well. And besides we'll be back in less than four months. The time will fly by and until then you won't have anyone to take care of or any responsibilities. So take a break, go on vacation. You deserve to have some fun once in a while too." Duke let out a deep breathe before looking at each of the girls' faces. He had always pictured them as the twelve year old girls that had arrived in Celestia all those years ago but today they all looked so much like their parents, they were grown-up. He reminisced for a few moments longer before a slight grin began forming on his face. "You're right, you aren't little girls anymore so though I'm not too thrilled about this, I'll trust your judgement." Everyone gave Duke another hug before he promptly added, "But the second that anything happens..." "Don't fight, just teleport home as fast as possible." Kary interjected, finishing Duke's sentence. Duke stepped back and gave the girls and Kei a tender look, like a father about to let go of his children, and said, "Then do your best everyone and...", he straightened his back in the usual way that meant he was about to give them a lecture, "remember that when you go out there you're not only representing yourselves but your family, your planets and the entire Celestian system even though they don't know you are royalty. Just bear that in mind." They all rolled their eyes before routinely nodding like they had been for years when they were getting this talk. Typical Duke had to lecture them till the end. "Good. As long as you're all aware." Duke said in his normal authoritative voice, except today it was obvious to see he was merely putting it on because he then gave them another smile before walking out of the room. "Well that's that. All that's left to do is finish up this packing now..." Magdelene sighed while turning all her attention to her overflowing suitcases and the pile of clothes that were still on the floor. "That'll be the easy part, especially if you use a little magic." Kary mused as she was about a second away from using her magic to pack Mag's remaining things. Serena looked at the piles of clothes and gave another alternative, "Or you could always pack less." Kei could feel another bickering match coming up and quickly inserted, "So what university is everyone going to?" Edited by Serenity Astraea Minuette, Jun 13 2013, 11:51 PM.

The room grew quiet in an instant as everyone retreated into their own thoughts. Kei had just asked the one question they had all been avoiding. They had all know what college they would pick for a while, of course, but they had kept it to themselves. Not even the twins knew where the other was going. But now, as the question buzzed like a cicada in their ears, they had no choice but to face the truth that they were soon going their own ways. Serena sighed, braking the silence. "Cambridge," she said matter of factly. "Dakota State," Magdelene continued quickly. Kei nodded in acceptance. He had expected nothing less. Kary on the other hand remained silent, fighting a battle between what she wanted and her better judgement. "I'm going to-" but Kei never got to finish his sentence. "I applied all of us to different colleges in New York and California," Kary burst out, her better judgement losing the fight. "We all got in to at least one place in each state. We could just stick together." She looked around the room with hopeful puppy eyes as she waited for their replies, hoping the her siblings' thoughts were taking would lead them to the answer she wanted to hear. |

Serena, Magdelene and Kei all stared at Kary for a few moments, all unsure of what to say as they were all caught off guard. Magdelene was the first to speak, "Wait what...? Where'd you apply us to?" Serena nudged Magdelene, "Is that really what you're wondering?" "Well I don't know what else to say..." Magdelene said, lost for words. Serena turned to Kary, "Do you really want us all to stay together that badly Kar?" |

"Yes," Kary said without skipping a beat. "I mean think about what I'm proposing here. We all go to different colleges, live our own lives all day, and come home to the comfort of each other where we can actually be ourselves, magic included. Doesn't sound so bad does it?" As hard as she tried not to sneak a peak into her sibling's thoughts, she could hear Kei's as clear as her own. She had already convinced him. Now there was just the girls' minds to change and she didn't think they'd tell her no right away. No, she was sure they wouldn't turn her down without giving her the chance to convince them. "Kar..." Serena began. "You know I could always call Duke back into this conversation," she interrupted. "I'm sure he'd agree that we'd be safer together. And besides, imagine me on my own. Can you truly count on me to be responsible and not destroy the world accidentally?" |

"Well, if you guys DO all go to Cali, it wouldn't be too far away from me..." "Uh, Mags-" "Yes, yes, I know," Magdelene said, sighing as she to fill one of her suitcases with clothes, "South Dakota and California aren't that close to each other. I failed geography." "Isn't SD supposed to be, like, suuuper cold?" asked Caroline, frowning. "Yeah?" "Then why are you bringing swimsuits?" "Because if there is a university, there will inevitably be nerdy-yet-hot guys. And just hot guys in general." "It's not cold in Cali, Mags," Kary pointed out, attempting to get the youngest of them on her side, "You don't have to worry about getting pneumonia when you swim /in the ocean/ ! And besides, you hate being cold!" "I know, but I just feel that I /belong/ at DSU. And as much as I did like the thought of going to Cali - yes, Kar, I did almost apply to UCI, UCSB, and Caltech - I think this'll be a wonderful opportunity for me to get out of my comfort zone. I've been in the same environment with the same people - no offense, I love you all to bits - for years now... I love it, but I think that going somewhere where I know absolutely nobody will be great for me." Magdelene paused, frowning slightly as she put the last of the clothes away, "And does this remind anybody else of 'The Little Mermaid' ? Well, not the giving-things-up-for-love part, but the whole have-to-give-up-something-important-to-be-happyish part?" |

Kary sighed, stifling a laugh. "Well I can promise you I will destroy the world and this time it won't be accidental." Kei opened his mouth to speak but before he could get a word out, Kary turned and stomped out of the room, her palm sized suitcases trailing behind her. "By the way," she called from the stairs, "I'll be in Columbia if anyone needs me. I decided to go Ivy League after all." Once she was in her room, Kary cast a quick protection spell on her room to make sure no trespassers could get in as she waited for one of her siblings - any of them to come to their senses. Do they look like their considering it? Kary asked Kei through their usual mind speak. Their thoughts tell me there's no way. Crud.. She sat down on her bed, looking around the room. Where are you going anyway? I'll see you in New York, Kar. With a smile she turned her attention to her closet, deciding to pack some of her weapons. Somehow, she always ran into trouble, be that on Celestia or on Earth. |
