A bell jingles as you pull open the door to the shop, and a middle-aged man looks up at you from a counter just inside. He mutters a quick![]() SHOPKEEPER: "Welcome." and looks back to a large book spread out before him. You browse the shop for a minute or so, removing a few odd trinkets from their precarious positions on the shop shelves and placing them back in order with puffs of dust. The shop is dimly lit, and you wonder if maybe the lighting is supposed to mask the state of disrepair suffered by most of the items for sale. You pretend to look interested for a few more seconds, then begin to move toward the door, glancing at the book on the counter before you leave. Your glance does not go unnoticed. SHOPKEEPER: "Interested in this? Take a look." He turns the book to face you. Its thin pages are intricately laced with images of strange creatures, labeled by scrawling handwriting. You leaf through a few pages with little commitment until a single image catches your eye. You are mesmerized by this picture and gaze at it wide-eyed for quite a long time until SHOPKEEPER: "That's enough." The man closes the book in your face, sliding it off the counter to hide it in some invisible nook. You blink at him, mildly surprised. He smirks. SHOPKEEPER: "Ah, so that's the one. You should see if you can make use of it." Confused, you hurry out the door and begin your journey home. ------------------------------- You dream, that night, in the most intense, realistic color. In your dream, a door hovers before you. You sense that behind it lies a drastic change in your life, though you can't be sure why you feel this way. And so, you decide to open the door. leave the door closed. Edited by Frodo, Apr 23 2012, 03:39 AM.
