1 Timothy 4:11-16 KJV(i) 11 These things command and teach. 12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. 1 Timothy 4:11-16 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) 11 These are the things you must insist on and teach. 12 Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13 Until I arrive, give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhorting, to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders. 15 Put these things into practice, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress. 16 Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers. These are my thoughts, please share yours. 11 There are things we need to teach, there are certain teachings that are more important than others and need to be treated as such, there are things that are repeated in the scriptures if God chose to repeat certain things and chose to focus more on certain teaching don’t you think He expects us to do the same. 12 The young are often viewed as inexperienced. Timothy had experience he had learned from Paul and journey with him and had grown spiritually by serving this allows one to grow faster when they are serving. We should not wait to live a certain way when we have opportunity to serve but live a certain way and we will be given chances to serve because of how we live and more important who we live for. Timothy would have been viewed as incapable because of his age he needed not to focus on proving them wrong but focus on serving the Lord and He would lead them to prove them wrong. God would not have called Timothy if he was to young or inexperienced to handle things. 13 Reading scripture is very important. Jesus read scripture and was able to quote scripture when He needed for us to be able to reflect on scripture for our lives we need to read scripture. Thru hearing and reading scripture we can see God’s plan for us and grow by faith. We should encourage one another to serve the Lord in the ways He has called us. We should teach people the gospel and how they should live as Christians and show them the things we have learned from our times of serving the Lord. 14 We are all given a gift by God to serve, we need to focus on this gift and serve Him by using our gift. God has a purpose for us and the gift He has given us is mean tot be used for this purpose. There should be those who support us and agree with how God has called us. Laying on of hands is very important it shows that God’s people have accepted what you are called to do. It is usually done for a person who is being called to a position in the church. 15 We should live by what we teach, we should not peach one thing and then do something else. A pastor is set to be the guider of the church and should live as an example for the church. A pastor should live in a way where people see his overcomings and are encouraged and know that they can go to them because they have been there and were able to overcome. 16 A pastor goal should be to bring those who hear them closer to Jesus. They should be living in a way that brings them closer to Jesus by them serving Him. Too many pastors today stray to far from the word. Timothy was told here not to focus on other things but focus on the word by doing this he would not lead people away from Christ. |
