1 Timothy 5:9-10 KJV 9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man. 10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. 1 Timothy 5:9-10New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) 9 Let a widow be put on the list if she is not less than sixty years old and has been married only once;[a] 10 she must be well attested for her good works, as one who has brought up children, shown hospitality, washed the saints’ feet, helped the afflicted, and devoted herself to doing good in every way. These are my thoughts, please share yours. 9 This list is made so they have names so they can give them help and aid them in their needs; it is made so they do not forget anyone. If she had another husband she might need to go back to him, this is also assuming she is without children because they should care for her if she did but if they did not the church should step up, the church should not choose not to help someone because someone else should but help them because they are in need. 10 The church does not have to be a door mat for people to take advantage of but the church needs to truly help those in need, to give someone money for food is a need to give them money for them to buy drugs is not a need they may have had a need but they took advantage of the church by their need, this may be why Paul gives Timothy standards to help people, so he would not let the church get taken advantage of because the church is not going to be able to help everybody but needs to do the best we can to help those in need, those who are not looking to take advantage of the church but those who truly need help. |
