1 Timothy 5:21-23 King James Version (KJV) 21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. 22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure. 23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. 1 Timothy 5:21-23 GOD’S WORD Translation (GW) 21 I solemnly call on you in the sight of God, Christ Jesus, and the chosen angels to be impartial when you follow what I’ve told you. Never play favorites. 22 Don’t be in a hurry to place your hands on anyone to ordain him. Don’t participate in the sins of others. Keep yourself morally pure. 23 Stop drinking only water. Instead, drink a little wine for your stomach because you are frequently sick. GOD’S WORD Translation (GW) Copyright © 1995 by God's Word to the Nations. We should be ready to work when ever the call comes. To not play favorites is something that is hard because it goes against our nature, we want to help those and do for those that first help us and this is not what we are to do but help and work with whoever the Lord wants us to. 22 Paul is referring to bringing someone into church positions. We should never choose to ordain someone just because we have to they should be a helper in the church before they become an official helper known as a deacon. You should give people guidance Godly guidance before you become a pastor, being ordained is simply the church putting you to where God has already called someone. Sin likes company; we sometimes may have to avoid sinners because of this so we do not fall into sin. Purity is to keep ourselves prepared for the Lord to use us, not being in sin. 23 This was advice only for Timothy has may have had an ulcer which Paul tells him to take care of. Wine can help with sickness if taken little; Timothy never would have taken what Paul said as for an excuse for him to down an entire bottle but just enough to help his stomach. |
