![]() The Empire of Eparthia The Empire of Eparthia is a large and popolous, in fact one of the most popolous nations in this planet, standing in South-Western Yasopa and stretchign from Lake Anush to the north to the Gulf of Lebia, Sea of Mardori, to the south. As it is home to large numbers of people it is also home to diverse religions, traditions and ethnies and to a grand History, from which parthians take great pride. The country is governed under the form of a (semi) Constituitional Monarchy, with all of it's faults, problems and abuses but also with all of the great things that make the inhabitants of this country to call it it their homeland. Government Eparthia, as stated previously, is governed under the form of a (semi) Constituitional Monarchy with the powers divided between the Monarch, the Parliament, the Prime Minister (and the Prime Minister's cabinet) and the Supreme Courts ( The Constitutional Supreme Court and The Economic Supreme Court ) and lesser Courts. The Monarchy is an instituition much liked by the general populations, endorsed by mainstream politicians and it's representatives are recievers of great respect and great powers. The Monarch as lot of powers invested upon itself, the Monarch appoints the Magistrates of the Supreme Courts and lesser Courts, signs treaties and legislation into law and may also propose legislation into parliament, approves the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, may declare martial law at extreme circumstances and during those circumstances can rule by decree. The Parliament of Eparthia is composed by only one chamber, called the Congress, each Region elects a number of Congressmen, under the Party-list proportional method, which are then invested with the powers of creating and voting upon any form of legislation and any form of treaties, both having to go through the Monarch for approval, and of electing a Prime Minister from among themselves (meaning that whichever party has the most seats in Congress can elect one of them as the nation's Prime Minister). The Congress can be dismissed by the Monarch up to six months after elections if no Prime Minister has been elected, alternatively the Monarch can appoint a non-partisan Prime Minister which will be given a special seat in Parliament. The Constituition only allows the existence of three parties, however it does allow political movements that cannot participate in elections. and does not allow any party to hold a subversive ideology such as Separatist, Republican or Socialist ideologies, as a result all the main three parties are more or less right wing even though they all have more moderate factions, controlling them or not. The current composition of Parliament is the following
Justice and Development Party (JDP) - The Justice and Development Party had led the country since the instituition of Parliament in the late 60's so it is no surprise that this party has come to dominate the political landscape of Eparthia as the Bureucracy is completely controlled by them and they have large support base in the Armed Forces, the Public Service, the majority of Sunnites and partly supported by ethnic and religeous minorities. It is by Parthian standarts a moderately right winged and partly democratic party that has come to accept the Free Market principles and is a staunch supporter of the monarchy and nationalistic and stands in the way of radical islam, republicanism and socialism but also further political and social reform and economic equality. Outside of Eparthia this party could either be seen as the lesser of evils as it acts against what most westerners see as threats. beligerent radical islam or it can be seen as a authoritharian party which policies will cause further social and economic divide between the parthian population which can only lead to instability. Unity through Justice Party (UJP) - The Unity through Justice Party is not a newcomer to parthian politics, it has ,like the Justice and Development Party, existed since the instituition of Parliament, but always as a secondary party, in fact it was only a politicial movement until the 80's. It is a Islamic party which could be classified as radical by it's opponents, but other than supporting the instituition of Sharia as law it is for further economic and social reforms which they see are lacking. The party has gained support from several parts of parthian society for their economic and social policies and for supporting instituition of Sharia as law. Democratic Movement - The Democratic Movement is the closest thing to a leftist party in Eparthia and unlike the other two parties it is a newcomer to parthian politics having become a party soon after it's formation. It stands for further democratic reforms, these being the main differences between the Democratic Movement and the other two parties, such as expansion of suffrage and allowing more parties to exist, it also supports social and economic reforms like Unity through Justice but supports the status quo as far as Sharia law goes, mostly because the Democratic Movement knows that religion is still a large part of Parthian society. It draws much of it's support from religieous and ethnic minorities and secular muslims. Previously there were several other parties, the Reformist Party, an Islamic party that acted as JDP's puppet and partner in government to attract votes from those that regarded themselves as more religeous, it eventually disbanded after internal disagreements over it's policies and agreement with the JDP and it's members either went on to make part of the JDP's Islamic faction or went to join the Unity through Justice Party which would thus become a party. There were several smaller parties along the years that never reached the same importance of the JDP or UJP, the most recent one, Solidarity was disbanded after several of it's top members were accused of supporting republicanism and were charged with treason, the Democratic Movement absorbed many of it's members and took it's place. The Political Movements that currently have some notoriety are: - The Feminist League, a political movement that does not wish to turn into a party, it is better known for defending equality between genders, which is not exactly enforced currently but is instead advised, but also takes action in issues such as abortion, right's of same sex couples and gender issues, the League's actions is frowned upon by most of Parthian society but is tolerated, to a point. ![]() The Tetrarchy From left to righ: Shahanshah Artaxerxes III; General Alborz; General Besserius; Prime Minister Nili Antiochus The Tetrarchy is composed by four persons that have great influence over many aspects of Eparthia, wether it be through their positions or through enforcing their influence they all have private and public instituitions under their power wether they are economic, political, military, cultural or religeous in nature and while they are not all officially governing the nation the truth is that they all end up commanding it. Shahanshah Artaxerxes III - The Shahanshah ( King of Kings ) is someone that could not be left out of this list as he is the monarch of Eparthia and one of the most influential characters in Eparthia, not only due to what he inherinted as monarch but because during his life he has come to gather powerfull friends and has strecthed the monarchy's power to many places that it did not reach before, this was mainly due to his authoritarian nature. Other than controlling a large part of the government's bureucracy and having many faithful followers he controls several cultural instituitions that serve to promote the regime and himself but also to further develop the country, several national businesses also come under his ownership and serve as the monarch's personal investement. General Alborz - Alborz is the heir of dukedom, whose holders have always been grand supporters of the monarch, or at least that's what History says. Other than being a high ranking officer in the Army, which he came to me not due to his ability but due to his political friendships, and a Duke he is also the Chief of the Secret Police, holds a seat on the administration of the Royal Censorship Board and in the Royal Council, he was a Congressman representing the JDP in the past. General Besserius - Besserius is a General, and Minister of Defence ( which also makes him a member of the Royal Council ). Unlike Alborz who rose in the military chain of command mostly due to political favours and alliances Besserius rose throught it as a selff-made man and stays aways from politics as much as possible, having refused to join the JDP making him the only independent in the cabinet. While not a "man of the people" like the other composers of the Tetrarchy he is greatly admired by the population and mainly by the military and is seen as the main military genius behind the Eparthian armed forces. Prime Minister Nili Antiochus - Another obligatory presence in the Tetrarchy, the Prime Minister. Nili Antiochus was but an academic teacher when he was elected for the first time as a JDP congressman, quickly rising through the Party and becoming the Prime Minister, which he has been for two sucessive terms. While he hasn't strengthened the control of the JDP over the government's bureucracy, mainly because it is in very good shape, he has become popular due to his populist proximity speeches. He inherited most of his power from the Prime Minister's function but that does not mean he is any way less capable than the previous Prime Ministers has he has sucessfully led a highly popular cabinet. The Peoples of Eparthia And their cultures, relgions and traditions. ![]() Ethnic Parthians - Leonian Sub Group of Abaneans Ethnic Partians are part of the Leonian sub group of Abaneans and they compose 45% of the Parthian population, being the biggest ethnicity in Eparthia but smaller than the Hamish sub group of Abaneans. Parthians originated in what today is Media, at first being nomads from unknown parts but having settled in Media they went on to build one of the most thriving Pre-Classical societies in the world, from this era many traditions still remain such as the traditional vests and the ancient religion of Zoroastrianism which is still practiced by Parthians but was abandones by many which embraced either Christianism or Islam, however Zoroastrianism saw a revival later on. Today Parthians compose a large part of the urban middle class of the Empire, the government tends to favour them in the placement for jobs in the public sector and many high ranking public officers are of Parthian ethnicity, not to mention that the Royal Family are of Parthian origin and so is most of the political, economic, cultural and military elite. ![]() Ethnic Hamish - Hamish Sub Group of Abaneans Ethnic Hamish are the main, and in some way real, ethny from the Hamish Sub Group of Abaneans, they compose 25% of the population, being the third largest ethnic group in Eparthia, being only smaller than their Bactrian brothers and Parthian cousins. It is believed that the first Hamish settled in what today is Hiberia and Ilya a long time ago but were driven away by the growing Parthian states of that time, thus the Hamish only went on to be a large part of the population of Eparthia later on during the expansion of Islam and of the Hamish people led by their Caliphs, that made the Hamish responsible of introducing Islam in Parthia and making them an important factor on the developement of Islamic Eparthia. Today the Hamish are present almost everywehre in Eparthia, both in rural areas and the great cities and while they do not share the same benefits of the Parthians they are also widely present in the Public Service and form a considerable part of the Parthian Armed Forces, other than that Hamish are renowed for being small time businessmen and cattle herders. ![]() Ethnic Bactrian - Hamish Sub Group of Abaneans Ethnic Bactrians are part of the Hamish Sub Group of Abananeans, they currently compose 27% of the Parthian population. Bactrians originated from the mountains of what today is Parthia, occupying the northern parts of Hiberia and Media and the whole of Alta, they were originally a nomad people who never reached the same level of development as the Parthians and were conquered in the early eras by the Parthian empires and were later converted into islam, like the Parthians, with the arrival of the Hamish Caliphs. Today many Bactrians still live in their nomad ways, mostly as nomadic cattle herders although several of them have recieved subsidies from the government to abandon that lifestyle. Unlike the Hamish and Parthians the Bactrians do not form a large part of the public service, one of the main reasons being that many Bactrians still do not have the most basic education and continue to live a nomadic life, however many Bactrians make part of the Army, Public Police and many of them have chosen the teacher's career path. ![]() Ethnic Mizrahim - Mizrahim Sub Group of Abaneans Ethnic Mizrahim are the jewish inhabitants of Yasopa said to descend from the ancient Israeli people, in Parthia they first appeared during the Anciet Median Empire in what is today Lebia, where the majority of them still reside, and mantained a relatively large sized community in what today is Parthia until the 19th century when most of them departed to Chevneskia, now only representing 2% of the total population they are a shadow of what was once a thriving and influential community in Parthia, not only due to their numbers decreasing but also to several segregationist laws that over the years led them to live in poor urban zones. Today those segregationist laws have been repealed with the advent of Parliamentarism and the government has tried to ease the situation but not through the best methods as Mizrahim families have been forced to abandon their homes to go reside in Lebia which is relatively more moderate than any other regions. ![]() Ethnic Phenicians - South Imperian Sub Group of Imperians Ethnic Phenicians are Southern Imperian colonists that arrived in Parthia from the 12th century to the 18th century to either inhabit the small medieval christian kingdoms in Lebia or to modernize the Empire during the age of enlightenment, while many of them were originally from different countries over time they went on to build their own cultural identity and remained in Parthia even after their reason behind being in Eparthia had disappeared. Today they reside in Lebia and are known from being among the most liberal populations in Eparthia, mostly because they are isolated from any other Southern Imperian culture.
