Commonwealth Formula One - Introduction/Teams

That’s right. Commonwealth Formula One, so let me fill you in on how it works. You are an F1 driver who drives for one of 11 different F1 teams. When you sign up, you are assigned to a car. You drive this car around 18 different tracks with the aim to secure the most points and become the drivers’ champion. You must also help your team to win the Constructors Championship.

How do you do this? Well, all the races are simulated on F1 06 on the PS2. The races are 10% of their real life distance, so the races are quick and frantic, no pit stops required.

Here’s the twist. There is no qualifying. The grid for each race is determined by reversing the previous race’s result. So if you win a race, you start 22nd next race, and if you crash first, you get pole position for the next race. This gives every team a decent chance at major points, although the faster teams tend to secure better results and win championships more often.

And that’s it really. Now onto the FAQs.

Frequently asked questions

Why are you using F1 06 and not F1 2012?

Simply because Codemasters’ games don’t have a simulation mode in the game. All teams from F1 06 have been transpired to modern teams though, although there will be a few inconsistencies between in-game speed and real life speed, I have tried to balance it out.

Can I switch teams?

Only between seasons. So for instance if I was driving for Marussia and I really wanted to be in a Williams, I would have to wait until the end of the season in order to take the seat and even then the driver who owns the seat has priority over it. Generally, inactive players trigger driver movements although in some cases, players agree to swap seats.

Here's how seat priority works.

1. The person who currently owns the seat gets to keep it if they want.
2. The more experienced racer or the one with the better average results asking for the seat will be taken on
3. Any leftovers who didn't get the seat they wanted

There is no “previous” grid for the first race, how is that decided?

This will be randomised, however the reigning Champion will always start at the back of the race.

Why are we not using real team names?

Because this is Commonwealth Formula One? I'll post which cars they would be in the game in the below post and provide a picture of the real F1 car however there shall be different names!

Do we get one or two drivers?

For the sake of ease, when you join a team you shall be given both cars and you may submit a Bio for each driver if you so wish it!

Is there an RP element?

Yes, in-between races you may do Press Releases, Interviews, Headlines if you so wish.

When will races be?

Hopefully once the game gets started there shall be one race a day!
