It's that time again? *evil grin*

The first teaser trailer showed right before the Transformers movie. This thing got me excited. Then the second one is shown before Beowulf. Now I'm getting impatient. For those who don't know, Cloverfield is a monster movie created by J.J. Abrams (the guy behind "Lost") and Bad Robot (Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel). Abrams' inspiration for this? He wants America to have its own kaijuu, since he doesn't consider King Kong as "the American Godzilla". It's scheduled to be released on January 18, 2008. Here's some websites to look at. www.1-18-08news.com www.1-18-08.com www.slusho.jp Look for yourselves. |

I have heard rumors it might actually be based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Nothing too definite yet. |

Since in the trailer the statue of liberties head isn't as big as the lane of the road it is thrown on......XD I have no hope for this movie... |

I heard rumors about it being a Cthulu movie as well, but Abrams' stated "its a monster that hasn't appeared in film". Could be Cthulu, could be something else. So far, it's leaning towards a mutated ocean creature of some kind. Although, not enough info is available yet, so who knows? As for the Statue of Liberty's head fitting in a street: IT'S A MOVIE. SUSPEND REALITY A BIT. |

I thought it looked interesting. I'm curious as to what this monster could be. But I'll probably wait for the DVD to watch it, rather than go to the theatre. |

Audiences find Cloverfield a moving experience Fri 25 Jan 12:11 PM Filming Cloverfield with hand-held cameras for a realistic effect probably sounded like a great idea, and it hasn't hampered the movie's success at the box office. However, there have been numerous reports about audiences suffering from motion sickness, according to a report. The film, about a giant monster on the rampage in New York, topped the US box office last weekend but the shaky camera work left many feeling ill. "I'm really nauseous right now -- just hold on for a second," the LA Times quoted audience member Erika Hasegawa as saying, as she bolted out of a screening to vomit. "I wish I could get my money back," she added. One 18-year-old male viewer told the paper he was still feeling the effects 24 hours after watching the movie. "They're trying to go for the home video feel, so it's constantly shaking around," he said. "My brain tried to make it work, but it couldn't. I got a pretty heinous headache afterwards." Some will recall how The Blair Witch Project, which was also shot on hand-held camera, caused similar feelings among audiences, some of whom ran out of cinemas. Many ascribed it to the movie's scary content but motion sickness was largely the cause. One major US cinema chain showing Cloverfield even has signs warning audiences about possible motion sickness, while the chief exec at Mann Theatres, Peter Dobson, said most people who saw the film were fine, although four viewers had suffered. "I must confess I was a little surprised, but sometimes from time to time this happens," Dobson said. "It's not normal to get four in a weekend." "We've shown it to thousands of people this weekend, so the actual percentage of people (who felt ill) is really low," Dobson said. "We're delighted with the business Cloverfield is doing." Wonder if British audiences will prove to be made of sterner stuff when the film opens in the UK on February 1. Source: Yahoo |

I went and saw this a couple of days ago. The whole movie is filmed like someone is holding the camera. It helped with the realistic effect. I actually liked this movie, despite what everybody else thinks/says. It does take getting used to at first because of the film techniques, but after a bit you do get used to it. It was an interesting movie, and kept me wanting to know what would happen next. Especially since when something would happen, you didn't expect it. It just sort of... happened. Unlike the other movies where you know what will happen because of the music in the background or the events leading up to it. In this it just sort of happened, and they were things you wouldn't think would happen, and you were left thinking "WOW! Did not see that coming! That was cool!" I really enjoyed this movie, though. |

But is it worth going to the theatre, or just waiting until the DVD? |

The movie was pretty awesome to me. I like how it was shot. Taking one person's perspective and seeing what one person sees is great. The monster was badass. The acting was eh, but it wasn't like I was expecting some Oscar winning performance for a giant monster flick. Hope they'd make a sequel. Would like to see more sides to the event or even see what happens after the events of the first film. There wasn't any real closure when I came to the monster attack, and that makes me want to see another film. |
