Ha.. I've wondered how a lot of manga manage to not get in trouble in the US. Ie: Hellsing, or Elfen Lied. I mean, if parents ever saw that stuff... Good God. xD |

Well, a lot of the time they're smart enough to package those wrapped in plastic so they can't be opened by curious little kids (I would know, I buy them). I kind of think they should do that with all manga if they want to make money off of it, since I know a TON of people who treat book store manga sections like libraries. |

I know that, but it would've caused more trouble if a BL manga was discovered by that woman. I don't know if BL mangas are even sold at Books-a-million (we don't have one around here). I wouldn't want manga wrapped in plastic though. I like to sample the manga before I read them (kind of like how I read maybe a chapter or two from a regular novel before I read them). And I know I could just download a scanlation to check it out first, but it's a lot more convenient to be right in front of me when I'm already in the bookstore. It costs money to put plastic wrap around those books anyways, which are unnecessary for the most part. |

Huzzah, that's the only proper word that can describe this.
I find great amusement when the small child's mother finds a cleverly hidden (Well, in this case - not so hidden) surprise within their manga. Good thing they don't inspect the manga that much, well at least my mother didn't when I was a wee one. And I turned out fine didn't I? I do see their point though. |

I do see their point. I know some manga that if my parents saw it they would have blown a gasket. Did I mention my dad is a minister?? |

Don't most bookstores allow you to ask an attendant to remove the cover so that you can browse it at the counter? I'm not sure if they allow this for manga, they do for novels, most of the time. I would just read it at the bookstore if they weren't wrapped-- mangas, for the most part, aren't like regular novels which you can't really finish in a bookstore. On-topic, I guess I can understand the move away from the children's section. I don't agree with her not bringing her son to that store anymore, though. I think it's a little silly, as the manga section has already been moved.
