Hello everyone! I just wanted to get some advice since we are new conure owners on the process of weaning. Im a volunteer in our area for a wildlife rescue and have taken in numerous baby birds which we have had to hand raise til they are old enough for release but have never had such a young domesticated bird. Parker is our new baby and 8 weeks old. Her breeder told us she was on feedings 3 x daily which we are still doing. We also provider her with a mix of Pretty Bird Conure pellets and Lafebers seeds along with a very small mix of fruit and veggies diced up tiny. Parker (we dont know if parker is a boy or girl) will play with them and kinda eat them. I know each breed of bird and each individual bird can be different on the weaning process so I kinda wanted to get advice as to what we should do. Should we just continue the 3x daily feedings until we see her eating more foods on her own or try to cut back to 2x daily feedings? Or will she/he get to the point to where they will no longer accept the hand feedings of formula? Thanks for any advice

when i've hand fed, they usually let me know when when they are done... they will simply refuse to take the syringe.... but it will depend on the bird. i've also had the youngest of a parrotlet clutch wanting to feed for a good week longer. I keep pellets, seeds and weaning mix in dishes along with the fruits & veg. |

I just got a new baby crimson and she is still in the weaning process. Whats cute is I noticed that she goes after my one year old green cheek and wants her to feed her. But my green cheek runs away from the baby. In time could I see my female green cheek feeding the baby crimson so I don't have to hand feed as much? Also since I am a first-timer and new to hand feeding, how can I tell if the baby is hungry and when shes full? Do I have to worry about over feeding, like the baby will eat until she pukes??? I noticed that the baby sleeps and eats alot, is this normal? |
