It's nice to know where to go! :)

By the way, it's only about 20 miles from my front porch (I'll have time to have breakfast first :devil1: )

In most films or books, "if there is a zombie outbreak, it is usually assumed to affect all areas at the same time, and some months after the outbreak you're left with small pockets of survivors," explains Alemi. "But in our attempt to model zombies somewhat realistically, it doesn't seem like this is how it would actually go down."

Cities would fall quickly, but it would take weeks for zombies to penetrate into less densely populated areas, and months to reach the northern mountain-time zone.

"Given the dynamics of the disease, once the zombies invade more sparsely populated areas, the whole outbreak slows down—there are fewer humans to bite, so you start creating zombies at a slower rate," he elaborates.

I'm surprised parts of the Appalachians didn't make the cut in that article; I mean, as many mountain hollows and valleys there are - just drive through Western NC a few times to see what I'm referring to - surely there'd be a few places in that region that would survive? :O  :O

*looks over towards Xtreme* IIRC, you live in the SoCal region....aren't there deserts nearby that could see a survival element there? :O :O :O

Xtreme,

Live in California?

Not a problem...

If you start to see people down there stumbling around and eating other people (more than usual, I mean... :P ), you have an open invitation to come on up to my place in North Idaho.

If you drive straight-through (and in the event of a zombie apocalypse, I would recommend it) should take about 30 hours. Gives you more than enough time to get past the opening "waves" of zombie outbreaks. If you do not have a car, steal one. Shouldn't be a problem, as the outbreaks occur, to find a car where the owner no longer needs it... ;)

Open invitation, keep it in mind for the future..."just in case". :devil1:

We have a functional well, and a 12 gauge.

Doc,

Excellent choices!

I, myself, have found a 12 gauge absolutely indispensable when it comes to zombies. :devil1:

No, don't ask... ;)

Well, the Wall Street Journal's chimed in....

Just a word of friendly advice—if you ever find yourself in the midst of a zombie outbreak, steer clear of Scranton, Pa.

Researchers at Cornell University have developed a statistical model for simulating the spread of a fictional zombie epidemic. Detailed in a study submitted to the scientific-paper repository arXiv, the model identifies northeastern Pennsylvania as the U.S. location most at risk of being overrun by the undead.

To develop the model, scientists in Cornell’s physics department broke down the U.S. population in a grid of roughly 3-kilometer-square boxes. They then built upon classic epidemiological models of infectious-disease transmission—measles, the flu and the like—to simulate a marauding band of undead ravaging the country.

What locales might those worried about zombies want to avoid? Highly populated areas are a bad bet in general, of course. But Alexander Alemi, a graduate student and one of the authors of the paper, notes that the most susceptible spots change over time.

It is a well known fact that Zombies are afraid of Jellyfish.

"They have to be Zombies, otherwise they'd be freezing to death out there," Carol said as she described their watching them out the front windows when they heard the truck's horn.
Charles nodded, "They didn't even look cold, and I got a good look at the one woman. She was just wearing a dress like she would be buried in."
"She was," Dave said. "They've identified several of them, and from what I've heard, they're all still in their graves, or urns because some were cremated."
"But they're out running around in the snow," Charles said pointing at the back door.
"Yeah, then there's that."
"What else can you do to keep them away?" Carol asked.
"We've heard that they're afraid of jellyfish."
Carol and Charles exchanged long looks.

Doc,

Jellyfish frighten me as well. Oddly enough, they scare me more than zombies...
