SB Nation - Outsports: Nike Drops Manny Pacquiao After Boxer's Anti-Gay Remarks

Nike has reportedly ended its relationship with Manny Pacquiao after the boxer made homophobic comments that claimed gay people were worse than animals.

"We find Manny Pacquiao's comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community," Nike said in a statement. "We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao."

That statement looks very much like the one they released to Outsports three yeas ago when Pacquiao strongly opposed marriage equality, which Nike as a company has supported for about as long. Nike didn't drop Pacquiao at the time but said:

"Any recent remarks made by Manny Pacquiao reflect his personal views. Nike is strongly opposed to discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of GLBT individuals."

Nike's support has included endorsing LGBT athletes like Brittney Griner and Jason Collins, creating an entire line of clothing and the #BeTrue campaign that celebrates gay pride, and donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to LGBT non-profit groups.

....about damn time....thoughts? :pride:
