(Reddit) Books That Motivated You To Expand Your Knowledge About Something?

So I've recently finished Dan Brown's Inferno. As I was (a) horrible high school student I didn't even bother to read Dante's Divine Comedy so my knowledge about it was pretty much basic. But after I finished the book I've spent hours digging informations about both Dante Alighieri and Divine Comedy learning a lot in the process.

I'd love to hear your examples. (Reddit user ChrispyPotatoChips)

I don't think there was one book, besides the Bible of course, that motivated me like that.

I wasn't a 'horrible student' in high school, but I was as mediocre as you could get. I had a solid "C" average from junior high school through college. In my graduating class from college, my GPA was just about in the middle of the class.

It wasn't until I was out of college that I realized that I had been through 16 years of the education system, and had never heard of the majority of more interesting topics on 'Jeopardy'.

Something I have since rectified.

PS: I won't try out for the show because they always have a category or two about "pop culture" and "celebrities" and I honestly don't give two hoots in a hurricane about those.
