(Daily Telegraph) Judge blocks Trump immigration order --A federal judge in Seattle on Friday put a nationwide block on U.S. President Donald Trump's week-old executive order temporarily barring refugees and nationals from seven countries from entering the United States. The judge's temporary restraining order represents a major challenge to Trump's action, although his administration could still appeal the ruling and have the policy upheld. Judge James Robart, a George W. Bush appointee, made his ruling effective immediately on Friday, suggesting that travel restrictions could be lifted straight away. He is expected to issue a full written ruling over the weekend. Washington Governor Jay Inslee celebrated the decision as a victory for the state, adding: "no person - not even the president - is above the law." The state's attorney general, Bob Ferguson, said: "This decision shuts down the executive order right now." He said he expected the federal government to honor the ruling. The Justice Department made no immediate decision on an appeal. "The Department looks forward to reviewing the court's written order and will determine next steps," it said in a statement. |

(Daily Telegrpah) White House to appeal "outrageous order" --Sean Spicer, the White House Press Secretary, has hit back at the court order saying the Department of Justice will appeal. "At the earliest possible time, the Department of Justice intends to file an emergency stay of this outrageous order and defend the executive order of the President, which we believe is lawful and appropriate. The president’s order is intended to protect the homeland and he has the constitutional authority and responsibility to protect the American people. "As the law states, "Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate." |

(Daily Telegraph) U.S. Justice Department will not file immediate stay against Seattle immigration ruling --The U.S. Department of Justice will not be filing an emergency stay on Friday night to overturn a Seattle's judge ruling that blocked a U.S. executive order temporarily barring refugees and nationals from seven countries from entering the United States, a spokesman said. The White House had earlier said the emergency motion would be filed "at the earliest possible time." |

(The Guardian) Legal challenges in seven states --Legal challenges challenging the travel ban have been taking place in seven states across America, including Washington, where the temporary stay on the ban was handed down, Massachusetts, where a judge ruled the travel ban could re-start on Sunday, Hawaii, New York, Virginia, Michigan and California. -Read more: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/feb/04/trump-travel-ban-legal-challenges-in-seven-states-against-order |

(The Guardian) The ruling in Washington has created confusion about travellers about which ruling applies to them. The US Customs & Border Protection agency told American airlines that they can once again board travellers who had been barred by an executive order last week. But it’s unclear what it means as yet to travellers who are stuck overseas. |

(Daily Telegraph) Donald Trump's travel ban on individuals from seven Muslim majority countries has been thrown into doubt by a judge who ruled that it was unlawful. US District Judge James Robart upheld cases brought by two states - Washington and Minnesota - and granted an order effectively suspending the order issued by Mr Trump on Jan 27. ![]() His ruling contradicted a judgment in Boston. Within hours of the Seattle ruling, Mr Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer issued a strongly worded statement saying that the administration would appeal what he initially described as the judge's "outrageous order". But while the White House signalled its determination to fight the ruling, Customs and Border Protection was reported to have told airlines that it was in the process of reinstating the visas which had been rescinded by President Trump's executive order. |

(Daily Telegraph) The commander-in-chief has his say (1) When a country is no longer able to say who can, and who cannot , come in & out, especially for reasons of safety &.security - big trouble! (2) Interesting that certain Middle-Eastern countries agree with the ban. They know if certain people are allowed in it's death & destruction! (3) The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned! |

(Daily Telegraph) Trump takes on a federal judge --Donald Trump has been criticised by Republicans and Democrats alike for his questioning of Judge James Robart's authority. Mr Trump called the ruling "ridiculous" and Mr Robart a "so-called judge". That seems to be a direct challenge to judicial independence, and the separation of powers. It is also not lost on Mr Trump's critics that Mr Robart was nominated to the federal judiciary by George W Bush and confirmed unanimously by the Senate. |

(Daily Telegraph) Trump is back from golf, and back on Twitter --After a visit to Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, the president is back on Twitter and still fuming about Judge Robart's order. (1) What is our country coming to when a judge can halt a Homeland Security travel ban and anyone, even with bad intentions, can come into U.S.? (2) Because the ban was lifted by a judge, many very bad and dangerous people may be pouring into our country. A terrible decision |

(Daily Telegraph) Department of Justice files notice to appeal against travel ban ruling --The Department of Justice has filed a notice to appeal against the ruling by a Seattle court which suspended Donald Trump's immigration ban imposed on travellers from seven Muslim-majority countries and suspending refugee entry to the US. (1) Why aren't the lawyers looking at and using the Federal Court decision in Boston, which is at conflict with ridiculous lift ban decision? (2) The judge opens up our country to potential terrorists and others that do not have our best interests at heart. Bad people are very happy! The appeal has been lodged with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which has been asked to overturn the ruling by federal Judge James Robart, a George W. Bush appointee. |

(Daily Telegraph) Where are the judges? --There are three judges who are on the rota to hear the Department of Justice. They are based in San Francisco, Hawaii and Arizona. Legal analysts believe that they are likely to work via email and conference call rather than meet in person. The ninth circuit has set up a website for those who want to follow the case in detail. -Read more: http://www.uscourts.gov/cameras-courts/state-washington-vs-donald-j-trump-et-al |
