One News Now: GE Challenged Over Donations To Left-Wing Groups

A watchdog organization believes General Electric is choosing secrecy over transparency.

Earlier this week, Justin Danhof of the National Center for Public Policy Research attended the annual meeting of General Electric investors to present a shareholder resolution calling on the company to explain its rationale for donating shareholder money to groups such as Planned Parenthood, the Center for American Progress, and the Clinton Foundation.

According to Danhof, GE opposes the proposal.

Danhof, Justin (Nat'l Ctr for Public Policy Research)"Every year ... hundreds and hundreds of shareholder proposals ... go after any corporation that even breathes toward an organization on the right, let alone donates them money," Danhof explains. "If you're a conservative investor, if you're a pro-life investor, or [if you're a] institutional investor, you should have the right to know which corporations are funding these extremist groups – and if GE doesn't want to explain and answer why they're donating to Planned Parenthood, then maybe conservative investors are better off spending their money elsewhere."

General Electric didn't respond to OneNewsNow's request for comment. GE did, however, post a response explaining why the board recommended a vote against Danhof's proposal (scroll down to Shareowner Proposal No. 4).
