Breaking 911: Van Mows Down Pedestrians Near London Mosque, Massive Police Response

Several people were injured after a van reportedly plowed into pedestrians in the Harringay neighborhood of London.

The incident happened near a prominent Mosque as witnesses claim the driver intentionally struck the victims—a male driver was taken into police custody.

There was a massive police response and multiple ambulances were on scene.

There was no immediate word on an exact number of victims.

Al Qaeda operatives including the “shoebomber” Richard Reid and Zacarias Moussaoui attended the Finsbury Park mosque. In 2002, The Guardian reported that weapons training had taken place inside the building.

The mosque rose to notoriety when Abu Hamza al-Masri became Imam of the Mosque due to his extremist ideologies and views on terrorism.

(BBC News) Muslim youth leader: Attack was 'inevitable'
--Mr Hussain says he thinks "in many ways this [attack] was inevitable". "We expected it, because we've seen numerous types of Islamophobic attacks. They're not just small attacks, we're talking about from verbal abuse to real attacks on individuals and attacks on mosques, which have been taken as retaliation in a sense from after other attacks that we've seen, whether that's been in Manchester or London."

He says this is one of the reasons why frustrations were high.

(The Guardian) The widowed husband of murdered MP Jo Cox has tweeted in the aftermath of the attack, saying that the far right and Islamist terrorists shared an ideology and both must be defeated.

(1) Far right facists&Islamist terrorists are driven by same hatred of difference, same ideology of supremacy&use same tactics. We'll defeat both
(2) When islamist terrorists attack we rightly seek out hate preachers who spur them on. We must do the same to those who peddle Islamophobia

(The Guardian) At least two witnesses told Sky News that there were three men in the van, but the Met Police statement seems to directly contradict that, saying no other suspects had been identified or reported to police.

--The mayor of London has released a statement on Facebook, saying the attack was deliberate and targeted “innocent Londoners, many of whom were finishing prayers during the holy month of Ramadan”. “While this appears to be an attack on a particular community, like the terrible attacks in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge it is also an assault on all our shared values of tolerance, freedom and respect,” he said.

(The Guardian) Amber Rudd: 'We must all continue to stand together'
--Home secretary Amber Rudd has given the following statement in reaction to the attack at Finsbury Park. My thoughts are with all those affected by the appalling incident at Finsbury Park. I am in contact with the Metropolitan Police who have confirmed it is being investigated by their Counter Terrorism Command. Yesterday, like so many others around the country, I took part in the Great Get Together to celebrate the values of Jo Cox. It was powerful and moving to see the community come together in a show of solidarity. We must all continue to stand together, resolute, against all those who try to divide us and spread hate and fear.”
