One News Now: Vote On Concealed Carry Bill Days Away

Should people with concealed carry permits be allowed to cross state lines with their firearms?

A bill in the U.S. House is pushing for just that. The bill is the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, introduced by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC), to allow a "qualified individual to carry a concealed handgun into or possess a concealed handgun in another state that allows individuals to carry concealed firearms."

The NRA-Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) backs the bill. "This just means that if you're traveling for business or vacation, you're allowed to protect yourself or your family with your own personal firearm," says NRA-ILA spokesman Lars Dalseide. "We have not had this freedom in the past," Dalseide continues, "because there are some states like Illinois, like California, New York or New Jersey who don't really allow anyone who is not a resident of their state to carry a firearm. In a lot of cases, they don't allow their residents to carry firearms."

The bill was recently approved in the House Judiciary Committee by a vote of 19-11. A full vote in the House is expected early next week.

OneNewsNow reached out to The Coalition To Stop Gun Violence for comment but got no response.
