One News Now: On-air debate reveals left's real concern: Moore's faith

A recent exchange on a syndicated radio program indicates it might not be accusations of sexual misconduct that are fueling opposition to Roy Moore, but the fact that he's an evangelical Christian.

Thus far, the majority of Judge Moore's critics point to accusations of sexual misconduct as the reason they are against him becoming a U.S. senator. That was the point of a discussion Tuesday on Todd Starnes' radio show between Bryan Fischer, a talk-show host on American Family Radio; and Gregory Angelo, the head of the Log Cabin Republicans – a pro-homosexual political organization.

The debate started with the abuse allegations – of which Fischer is doubtful.
--Fischer: "I do not believe a single one of these allegations ... and the reason I don't is there's absolutely not one single scintilla or shred of evidence to support any one of the allegations."
--Angelo: "There is some concrete evidence there. We have notes from Roy Moore that were sent to the minor, I believe, who is at least 20 years his junior."

But Angelo quickly made Moore's faith the issue.
--Angelo: "Our main concern at Log Cabin Republicans is the fact that we have someone who is an unabashed theocrat who is running to be a part of the highest deliberative body that we have in the United States."
--Fischer: "It's humorous to me, actually, that Gregory and the Log Cabin Republicans have spent a couple of decades now attacking Christians as being moral Pharisees and Victorian prudes – and yet now all of a sudden [they] want us to think that they're the ones in a position to identify and determine what is truly Christian or not."

And then Angelo got to the heart of his problem with Roy Moore – and with Bryan Fischer.
--Angelo: "There are LGBT Christians who most definitely take exception to the fact that Roy Moore and folks like Bryan Fischer are out there pushing a message that they do not belong within the Christian faith – that they cannot be good Christians too."
--Fischer: "I think Gregory would certainly believe that the ultimate source of authority and authenticity is Jesus Christ. … And Jesus is on record – very clearly, unambiguously – saying that marriage is the union of one man and one woman."

In Matthew 19, when talking about marriage, Jesus said: "He who made them from the beginning made them male and female. Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife."
