(Daily Kos) Polls close at 8 PM ET (7 PM local time) for primary night in Illinois. We have plenty of exciting races to watch, and our guide to the key contests can be found here.

The main event will be the race for governor, where Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner is trying to fend off a far-right challenge from state Rep. Jeanne Ives, and where three major Democrats (J.B. Pritzker, Chris Kennedy, and Daniel Biss) are competing to face him. There are also a number of competitive House primaries including in the 3rd District, where Blue Dog Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski is facing his first serious challenge in a decade from businesswoman Marie Newman.

It only takes a simple plurality to win nomination in Illinois. We’ll also be covering the returns closely on Twitter.[/quote]

(Daily Kos) And like that, we have the first trickle of votes coming in, from Lake and Kane Counties in the northeastern part of the state. As always, though, never read anything into the results when so few precincts are reporting. Generally speaking, we like to wait until about 10% of precincts have been tallied in a given race before we discuss the results.

...from Daily Kos Elections....

(1) About 16% of Lake County in suburban Chicago is in. Rauner beating Ives there 54-46, Pritzker leading Kennedy 39-30. #ILGOV
(2) 14% reporting in #IL10, a longshot GOP pickup opportunity. Douglas Bennett, the most conservative candidate, leads Jeremy Wynes 37-32

--If Marie Newman (D) prevails, don't call it the start of some progressive wave about to topple the Dem "establishment" in primaries. Lipinski is an extreme outlier in today's Dem caucus, at least in districts as Dem as #IL03. There are virtually no analogous situations elsewhere. --#ILGov Rauner is in trouble if he keeps just a 6% lead in northern IL. South much more rural, conservative, Ives will do better there. #IllinoisPrimary (Jake Goldstein-Street, UW Daily - 20 March 2018)

--34% of Lake County in the Chicago burbs in: Rauner leads Ives 53-47, Pritzker leads Biss 38-31 #ILGOV (Daily Kos Electiojns, 20 March 2018)

--43% in #IL10 GOP primary and Bennett leads Wynes 38-32. He's the most conservative and most underfunded candidate; Dem Rep. Brad Schneider already looked pretty safe (Daily Kos Elections, 20 March 2018)

--First results show EMILY's List-backed Lauren Underwood (D) totally cruising in #IL14 primary w/ 61%. Could turn into a real race vs. Rep. Randy Hultgren (R). (Dave Wasserman, Cook Political Report - 20 March 2018)

(Daily Kos) IL-Gov: We’re now at 20% of precincts reporting statewide, a point at which we’re comfortable discussing the results. For Dems, Pritzker is far out in front with 44%, while Biss is at 27 and Kennedy at 25. For the GOP, it’s a lot tighter, with Rauner ahead of Ives 53-47.

(Daily Kos) IL-03: With 44% reporting, Lipinski is up 54-46. However, most of the vote so far has come from the city of Chicago, which is the area where he’ll do best. The rest of suburban Cook County should be better for Newman.

(Daily Kos) IL-02 (D): With 52% of precincts counted, Chuy Garcia, who’d been the dominant frontrunner, is predictably crushing it. He’s beating Sol Flores 68-20. In this safely blue district, winning the Democratic nomination is tantamount to victory.

--23% in statewide, Rauner up 53.5-46.5. With 52% of Cook in, he leads 54-46 there. Not a good showing for him in what should be base (Daily Kos Elections, 20 March 2018)
