It did sound awkward. Very awkward, in fact. What did she mean by that? he asked himself as he watched her smile and nod. Suddenly the thought that she was asking him out on a date gained a lot more credence in the jingling man’s ever confused mind. “I’m sure it will be very enjoyable!” he finally declared. Immediately he regretted his choice in words and his inner nervousness began to surface in his features. The woman’s conniving grin returned, but this time it seemed more playful than nefarious. Perhaps because Jing Li now understood she wasn’t trying to scam him of his money, though exactly what she wanted from him was still up in the air. “Sounds like a plan! So I’ll see you tomorrow. In the afternoon! Like you said.” He smiled awkwardly, hoping to hide his nervousness to little avail. Suddenly he remembered the food she had given him that still rested in his hand. “Oh, and thank you for the noodles.” Remembering the manners his mother taught him Jing Li brought his hands up to make an oddly shaped flame symbol, while trying to hold the bag at the same time, and bowed. |

Nervousness was very apparent on the black-haired man's face, and it took every ounce of willpower to not chuckle at him. Knowing that his behavior was at least in part to her response helped, however. Why is it unsurprising that I would manage to create an awkward situation? As the tall man stumbled over his words, Meizhen couldn't help but giggle quietly. Amusing... I rather li-. Her expression suddenly soured as she stopped that thought as quickly as possible. That certainly will not do. Clearing her throat, she forced a smile back on her face once more, and nodded to Jing Li. As he attempted the Fire Nation bow, the expression relaxed a little, and she returned the gesture, hand symbol and all, with the finesse of a noble woman. "Unfortunately, I am required to depart. It is imperative that I return to my workplace as soon as possible. I hope your meal is satisfactory, Jing Li." There was still the matter of getting into her normal clothing, and explaining why she wasn't paid for the order, after all. With a nod to her newest acquaintance, the waitress resumed her trek back to the restaurant, pausing only momentarily to call back to him. "I look forward to our next meeting." |

Jing Li smiled awkwardly down at the woman as she giggled. He wasn’t quite sure if that was a good or bad thing. Her souring expression didn’t help things either. Once she cleared her throat and smiled again he managed to calm down just slightly. “Right, of course!” he replied after she mentioned she had to get going. He found himself wondering about her manner of speech. Everything she said sounded like it was of the utmost importance, even returning to work at a noodle shop. He watched her as she turned around and ran off, holding up a hand to wave goodbye. When she shouted back to him he smiled. “Yah, me too!” he called back, waving with more confidence. It wasn’t until she was out of sight that he turned around and started back toward his home. What a strange woman. he thought as he walked. Looks like I have something to look forward to tomorrow. His eyes drifted to the bag in his hand. Soon a wide grin spread across his features. “And a fresh meal for dinner!” |
