Congratulation on making it to OWL Creative Quills! This year, you have the pleasure of having me as your OWL Teacher and let's hope this year is as good as, or even better than, last year and the many years before that! Your OWL Creative Quills Lessons will have the same structure of those of the 1st-4th years; a weekly lesson with weekly homework and an exam at the end! Although, the exam is probably going to be more fun than any other exam! This year we are going to be looking at newspapers. Over the course of the year we will be focusing on different parts of a newspaper and what makes them good and/or bad. You will be applying the knowledge that I have bequested upon you throughout your OWL. AFOREST is a term within Creative Quills which defines what make a piece of written good, effective and/or persuasive. Each letter stands for a different technique, normally used in persuasive text. You should, ideally, know what each of the letters stands for as it was studied in your first year of Creative Quills many Semesters ago! A - Alliteration F - Facts O - Opinions R - Rhetorical Questions/Repetition E - Emotive Language S - Statistics T - Triplets/Rule of Three HOMEWORK Write a persuasive letter (addressed to the Headmaster) about any topic you wish. I don't care what it is about (it could be about my sacking if you like!), I am looking for how best you use and understand AFOREST. Edited by GrannyWeatherwax, Aug 9 2012, 05:55 PM.
