Here's a place to gush about how everything so-and-so touches turns to brilliance. For me, it's Brandon Sanderson. If anyone here knows him, it's probably for continuing the Wheel of Time series after Robert Jordan sadly passed away before his story could be complete. Robert Jordan's widow chose Sanderson to continue the story for a good reason. Well, two. First is this blog Sanderson posted in response to the event but also Sanderson's incredibly first installment in what would become the Mistborn trilogy. Seriously, I think that blog is still pretty sad even if you have no clue who Robert Jordan was. And nobody could have been better to continue the epic saga. Of course, the notes were all there, all the plot was laid out. All he had to do was type it up. But Sanderson I think would understand it more than a lot of people. Why I like him though is obviously not his continuation of already ongoing works, but his own, personal works. Sanderson tried for years and years to get published. Trying, failing, getting back up, writing a whole new novel, repeat, until his first ever novel was published. That. Is. Inspiring. This man wrote something like twenty novels before he was published, all while his mom tried to stop him from pursuing the career. But he made it, and now, finally, he's getting the attention he so rightfully deserves. I was introduced to him via Warbreaker; a book he has for free on his website. My friend gave me her copy of the book and I read it in two days. That was the first time I cried reading anything. His characters were incredible, the twists just keep coming, each making me feel more dumb than the last because it made so much sense that it would happen, yet who could have predicted it? Then there was the magic system! Oh Sanderson's magic systems are the best, most well-thought out things. It's incredible. I knew instantly I wanted to read everything this man has ever written. And so next I picked up the first book in the Mistborn trilogy. That trilogy is still my favorite written piece. The twists were even better than Warbreaker! I can't tell you the number of times I literally held my breath reading those books, the number of times I had to re read entire pages because I was too shocked by what had happened to properly understand it. It was quite the experience. I think my friend Kirsten and I have successfully gotten all of our friends to read it, and they had similar experiences. I won't go into Sanderson's most recent project, the Stormlight Archive. The first book is about 1000 pages long, it's incredible, but this is too long already and I want to talk about how great this guy is as a person. He. Freaking. LOVES. His. Fans. He sticks his neck out a lot to please them. He's genuinely funny, and just super nice. He even posts behind-the-scenes information chapter-by-chapter on all his books on his site. And booooy is it interesting. It's so interesting seeing the complicated pasts and processes each book went through, what he cut, what he threw in at the last minute. And something else I really like about him is that he's an optimist, through and through. He believes in love and things like that even still, and encourages people to pursue things that make them happy, because he knows first hand that even when things seem impossible, they can happen. Also when he was first published, his wife, who is a teacher, found that one of her students was utterly entranced with his first book. He wrote this huuuuge essay on it and how amazing it was, so Sanderson went out of his way to write a short story about this kid in the world of the book he was so enthralled by. That is really boss. And sometimes he just goes ahead and chills with fans on his forum like w/ bro. TL;DR Pick up Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson Regret nothing |

I want to say Erin Hunter, but she ruined my shipping. I love Rick Riordan's work, as well as J. K. Rowling. I can't remember her name, but I also liked the chick who wrote Magic Treehouse... That's real informative... |

I agree with Aris' choices, and I also really like John Flanagan, the dude who wrote Ranger's Apprentice. |
