" Hello, ladies and gentleman! Several days late under unexplained circumstances, sources near General Horn have informed us that his announcement will be underway in one hour! Please tune back in when-- . . . I've just gotten word that General Horn is forgoing this additional time and making his announcement NOW! What could be the cause for this uncharacteristic unprofessionalism!? Our correspondent, Selina Lane, reports live from Frieza #79. "

. . .

The camera zoomed in on a pretty blonde woman, appearing slightly unprepared. She stood in front of a large rally, with a stage in the background, a podium in the center; its speaker was already approaching the podium.

" Thank you, Cruce, I -- Oh my! General Horn appears to be taking the stage now! "

The camera had already left her before her piece was over. Zoomed in on the stage, General Horn assumed the podium, standing proud and defiant. His usually pressed military uniform appeared somewhat wrinkled, lacking its trademark starch. His medals shined a little less bright, and his face appeared haggard, tired; he hadn't shaved for his big event.

" People of the universe! People of EARTH! " The crowd, despite consisting of mostly aliens, erupted in roars of applause.

" I apologize for the tardiness of my announcement, for my exhausted state, I apologize this announcement was not made on Earth. My staff and I have been tirelessly investigating one of my opponents in an attempt to keep this race fair, to keep this race honest, and we have uncovered a disgusting secret in my dear opponent's past that will force him out of this race and PUT HIM IN JAIL! HE IS A LIAR, A THIEF, A MURDERER! THIS REVELATION WILL CERTAINLY REVEAL THAT I AM THE ONLY LOGICAL CANDIDATE! He-- "

The crowd erupted again, Horn paused to allow the cheering to subside. In the midst of the screaming, one of the General's aides walked onto the stage and pulled Horn away from the podium. Visibly angered by the interruption, the General threw his aide off of him before staring at his hand. The camera focused: his aide was showing him a phone, with a clear shot of the General's reaction. Horn's brow furrowed, he appeared to be screaming at his aide in anger while the crowd kept shouting. Horn shook his head several times while the aide nodded sympathetically, the General appeared to be yelling 'No,' repeatedly based on his lips; the word 'How?' immediately followed.

Whispering something into the General's ear, the aide pointed toward the stairs. Walking off the stage, several guards swarmed Horn immediately, forcing him through a raucous crowd. The aide took the stage.

" I apologize, ladies and gentleman, the General has been unavoidably detained. "

The crowd began a chorus of boos while the camera followed Horn. Ms. Lane's voiceover came on as the camera stayed on the General.

" This is quite unusual, Cruce! General Horn has never been one to hold a press conference late, and he's never appeared at any public gathering looking so unprofessional! And to LEAVE mid-conference! This is certainly strange behavior from a man who still wants to be King of Earth. The General has just gotten into his car, he's-- . . . Yes, he's leaving the arena. The car is stopping in order to pick up his aide, Major Rackham. As we all know, Major Rackham has served as the General's aide for some time, and I'm certainly shocked they would put the good General into the car without his most trusted advisor. Nevertheless the car appears to have stopped outside, but the security forces won't let anyone leave until the Major makes it to the car!

Rackham had been joined by other guards and walked onto the screen from the far right, forcing his way through. As Lane had been speaking, Rackham had been on his telephone, the same one he'd been showing Horn. Screaming into it, he made several violent hand gestures before he stopped by the car and looked into his phone. The camera zoomed in, blurring slightly before refocusing: Rackham was staring at his phone, not moving. The bodyguards opened the car door, attempted to push him in; he pushed them off. Crushing the phone in his bare hand, Rackham drew his sidearm.

Aiming, he fired into the car. Several times.

" OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! RACKHAM HAS, OH MY GOD HE, HE! "

The security personnel surrounded him and tried to tackle him to the ground; Rackham leapt above them. Hovering over the car, Rackham put the gun to his temple, and then pulled the trigger. Brains splattered over the roof of the car. His lifeless body fell to the ground.

Suddenly, the screen cut back to Cruce Kayne, looking off in the distance, shocked. He appeared motionless for almost a minute before he realized he was on air.

" I, yes. We, uh, have ended this broadcast, due to its graphic nature. We will be with you all night, following this breaking development . . . "

Kayne's hand shot to his ear, pushing the receiver in further. His face grew dark.

" We have just received confirmation that General Horn is dead. "
