Lazaruss arched an eyebrow, marked the page he was on, closed the book, and picked up the phone. " Honored Primogen. " He said. " What can i do for you tonight ?" |

"I'll leave you a note with the details in it. Collect it from the first bench on the right on Kingston Bridge. It will have the details on it." |

The reply came swiftly. "Oh, not at all. If you have no objections, I would like to end the call, if I may ?" |

" Of course. " Lazaruss said without pause. " I apologize for keeping you. Have a pleasant evening. " After the phone was disconnected, Lazaruss allowed himself to feel a bit puzzled about Henderson's politeness. A Primogen did not ask for a neonate's permission to end a conversation. At least no primogen he had ever heard of. It made him wonder. It could be that Henderson was regarding him with a measure of esteem, but he was too pessimistic to buy that. Yet. Or, it could be that something was wrong. Something that Henderson was giving him a hint about. Lazaruss had always thought that Henderson was the most influential person in London. Princes changed, primogen came and went, but the master of information would always be getting boons in exchange for his knowledge. He did not get where he was without being smarter than the average bear. More importantly, he seemed like a man who did business like a spy, something Lazaruss could appreciate. Messages left in hidden locations were a good example of that. Such a man communicated in codes, ciphers and hints. Ergo, it was entirely possible that he was giving Lazaruss a hint about something. Then again, maybe he just did not like being referred to as Honored Primogen instead of Seneshal Henderson. Still, Lazaruss decided to be on his guard. He dressed in his board-meeting blue suit, which was bland and average despite the fine material, and in it, he hid the surprises he carried with him into danger ; his set of specially treated knives, two plastic bags of chemical formula that reacted with air, and a gun loaded with special kind of bullets he had to acquire through unofficial channels. On top of that, he put on his long brown trench-coat and a black scarf, which actually concealed 20 feet of though bridled rope. With that, he flicked on the GPS in his watch and left the house for the Kingston bridge. |
